so wade phillips is a great coach? he has a 64% winning rate. his teams are never the most talented, but they always come to play and fight.
Texans have arguably the most desirable head coaching position in the league that could be available. Money/Young Talented team can convince almost anyone.
Hmmm...lets see... Pros: Young team with hardly any bad contracts Best WR in the league Breakout RB with good size, ridiculous vision, and decent speed Decent O-Line Top 10-12 QB Stable of quality TE's A freak of nature (though not always motivated) DE One, maybe two Pro-Bowl caliber LBs In all likelihood, a high draft position A loose-walleted, uber-loyal, hands-off owner State-of-the-art, domed stadium No state income tax Warm weather year-round Fiercely devoted (though not always happy) fans Cons: Horrendous secondary and pass rush Same division as the Peyton Manning Blistering hot training camps Horrendous secondary and pass rush Horrendous secondary and pass rush Horrendous secondary and pass rush I'd say Houston gets first dibs, assuming we're looking for a new coach.
Great points, there will be no better vacant coaching position this off-season than the Houston Texans if they do fire Kubiak. With a good coach this team is not far from contending for a Super-Bowl
if the cowboys have an open spot they are easily more desirable. i dont care what you say, stop letting the hate blind you. cowboys are the second highest grossing sports franchise in the world after a soccer team. if you win there you are a god.
man my cowboys might finally reach their potential if fisher was coach. discipline is all that team needs.
Uh.......excuse me? Wow the 2nd highest grossing sports franchise? The Texans are 8th in the world. Woopty freaking doo. Money obviously can't save the Cowboys as we've seen. Not to mention there are many things that scare coaches away from Dallas. You have an owner who is always butting in and making moves based on his feelings and decisions. Most coaches don't like to have someone always looking over their shoulder like that. Plus coaching for the Cowboys puts you right in the media spotlight whereas other jobs not so much. The Texans offer a lower key job, younger talented players, more control over your team, and an owner that isn't going insane. Theres a reason Cowher said last year he would be interested in the Texans job.
I believe Bill Parcells once said something to the effect of, ""If they want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries." As long as Jerry Jones is there and his ego is about Jerry Jones being the man, they are very undesirable. That is why they were stuck with someone like Wade Phillips in the first place. The front line guys like Gruden or Cowher will never go there. I'd put Fisher in that same category. Those guys are all going to want total control just like Parcells wanted total control. As a grand experiment, Jones tried to cede total control to Parcells, but was constitutionally incapable of following through. That history will be front and center in the minds of all the front-line guys. That one factor will more than balance out all the favorable aspects to the job.
Yep. Most coaches want to go to a place with a good QB. We have that, plus we have elite RBs, WRs, and Olinemen. They will basically just have to come in and fix one side of the ball.
Maybe so, if only for the status. Highest grossing franchise means absolutely nothing if you're the head coach. Head coaches look for 3 things: 1. Salary 2. Job Security 3. Talent to win 4. Freedom to work Dallas is a very enticing place to be, simply because the brand is so recognizable, but Jerry Jones gives you absolutely NO room to work, and it seems like he fires coaches by the dozen. If I were a coach, Houston is still #1 on my list. Of course, I'm biased. That being said, it's still Dallas, and it will be pretty high on prospective coaches' lists. We'd better hope they win out and we lose out. I want Garrett signed in Dallas and Kubiak fired in Houston.
I think the priorities are thusly... 1. Salary 2. Autonomy 3. Talent 4. Job Security (every coach knows that job security is nonexistent everywhere)
Probably a good idea to keep him away. Nothing good can come from him being near the team after he basically gave a vote of no confidence in Fisher in front of the entire team. To let him back in, sewing seeds of discord, during a playoff run would be really counterproductive.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this. Bud Adams publicly stated that the two were going to have to get along. It seems that this is a pretty big step in the opposite direction of boss's orders.
Also, Fisher has done this before... to Steve McNair. The same Steve McNair that many here were saying Vince should try to emulate. Looks like that is happening.
Has there been any other coach in recent memory who has locked his players out of practice? (Serious question.)
