This is one seriously bizarre situation. One of Vince's attributes coming into the NFL was his leadership ability. How that has gone by the wayside under a coach known to back his players is beyond my comprehension. Vince's actions were divisive and by some measures grounds for termination. What's even more puzzling is that this is happening in what could be argued is one of his best "football growth" seasons of his young career. He has been making passes and reads that just a short time ago he was incapable of doing. I understand that he is a competitor and wants to be out there on the field, but letting his immaturity rise in his manner is inexcusable. Vince needs a sit down from a respected figure (S. McNair? Cunningham? Earl? Mack Brown? Moon?) before he further tarnishes his career.
I'm as big a Vince Young and Titans fan as they come... I am a Texas-Ex. I was a diehard Oilers fan for 25+ years. When the Oilers moved to Tenn... I still rooted hard for them. When the Texans came into existence, I despised them b/c I still was a Oilers/Titans fan. and I think today, I'm done with the Titans. VY brought my college a championship. For that I will always be grateful and root for him. When VY went to Tennessee and wore the Oilers throwback uniform... well I was ready to j*zz in my pants from sheer excitement. But its painfully obvious, and has been for a long time, that Coach Fisher never wanted Young and he was forced to take him on via Bud Adams. It is also painfully obvious that Young has a lot of personal issues. I can't root for this team any more. I will always root for VY and hope for the best for what he did for my school... but his act has grown tired in the pros. I think as of today, I will no longer root for any NFL franchise. I'll just root for my fantasy football players, instead.
Has there ever been a great football coach who HASN'T clashed many times with his players. Success in football is much more dependent on teamwork than in basketball or baseball. Hence it's much more important for everyone to be on the same page. Yes, there's 2 sides to every story. But until a whole team decides to quit on a coach, there's no reason not to side with the coach. Because he's the person holding the ship together. The only players you may lean over a coach in situations like this would be a superstar QB like Manning or Brady.
Agreed, look in Minny for an example of a whole team quitting, or in Dallas with Phillips earlier this year. It happens, and it usually starts with cracks like this one..... Not saying it will to Tennessee, but Fisher is not on all that solid of footing, his last few years have not been great from a results stand point. He is a good coach, a very good one, but maybe it is time for him to move on as well? DD
Why is it time for Fisher to move on? VY asked to come out, had his finger taped, allegedly looked bad throwing on the sideline so Fisher benched him. He never asked to go back in the game and threw a tantrum afterwards like a freaking child. Fisher gets asked about the childish tantrum and answers saying that it was an inappropriate way to act and all of a sudden Fisher is a bad players coach who needs to move on? You guys sound like the TMac apologists. Seriously EDIT: I will state that Fisher was in the wrong last year in sticking with Collins over VY.
That will last all of a week, as it does everywhere Chris Simms goes. I thought the Denver game last year was just classic Simms. Orton has a seriously sprained ankle, so Simms starts. It lasts all of one drive before the coach can't stand it and brings in a severely hobbled Kyle Orton (!!) to replace him. This will turn out no differently. The Texans should just plan for Rusty Smith. Sadly, he apparently just likes to chunk the ball deep, which is the perfect gameplan against the Texans...
Chris Simms will probably just be there until Kerry Collins is healthy. But I think you're right. If Bud hadn't forced Fisher to carry Vince on the roster, I wonder who he would have found by now? I know he liked Leinart, but he might have already cut times with him by now.
I don't think it is that puzzling when you think about it. Since his weird suicide thing, he has been pretty much a model citizen. He sat by and watched Kerry Collins go 0-6 and patiently waited his turn, even after he had been benched for far less the season before. When he finally got his chance, he finished the season 8-2 and looked a lot more like the Vince we all saw in college. Fast forward a season. He is benched after a bad half vs. Pittsburgh. Now imagine how you would feel if you had done everything asked of you, had shown that you are obviously the superior option at QB, yet you constantly have to look over your shoulder for fear of getting benched. Sure enough, he gives Fisher a reason to bench him again with this injury. Not once did Fisher appear to check on Young, and his postgame comments seem to contradict themselves. He said that Vince never asked him to get back into the game, yet he also says that he didn't feel comfortable with Vince's ability to throw the ball with the injury...? For him to know about Vince's ability, wouldn't Vince have had to made some effort to get back into the game? Not to mention the constant shots of him throwing the ball on the sidelines. So here your starting QB, who obviously wants back in the game, has to watch a rookie lose a critical game that could have had the team in first place. After all that has happened, I'm sure this was just his breaking point. I don't advocate what he did at all, and I definitely think there were better ways to express his frustration. But I definitely understand where all of it probably came from.
I hate the Titans and their Houston fans are beyond pathetic in my eyes. That being said if VY is let go, I'd love for the Texans to take a chance on him. Of course that won't happen because we don't take chances.
Is Leinart available? Or is still with the Texans? I know Orlovsky is the 2nd stringer, but I wasn't sure if Leinart stuck as #3. Unfortunately, for Vince, I don't know that there are a lot of options out there for him. It seems like a lot of the terrible teams this year have young QBs-of-the-future that they at least want to give a chance. Maybe San Francisco, Arizona, Miami?
I think Miami would be an absolute perfect fit. They don't seem to risk taking chances on questionable attitudes (they worked out Jamarcus last week) and their wildcat offense would be amazing to watch with Vince. Plus, Vince almost went to Miami for college. Everything could be coming full circle now.
From Peter King's MMQB: " On his way off the field after the game, he threw his shoulder pads and shirt in the stands and then, according to beat man Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, muttered under his breath while Fisher was addressing the team. When Fisher saw him ready to bolt the locker room, he told him not to quit on his teammates, and Young, according to Wyatt, said he wasn't quitting on them -- he was quitting on Fisher" Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...onday-morning-qb-week-11/1.html#ixzz161oSlpAf NICE TEAM CAPTAIN
The Titans need to forget about Vince and try to acquire Kevin Kolb. Collins is about done and Kolb would be a breath of fresh air for the titans.
