Prove it. Go ask A&M fans if UT winning a championship brought glory to them. Go ask UH fans if UT winning a championship brought glory to them.

Um, so? You're assuming that Texas is a monolithic entity with everybody supporting a state team when they win. This isn't Nebraska or Tennessee, where there's only one dominant college team.

Again, read what I posted before. Are Auburn fans happy when Bama wins championships? Are UNC fans happy when Duke wins championships? Are UCLA fans happy when USC wins championships? People do not cheer for rival schools or rival teams because of "state pride."

    1. what state does the national championship reside in?

    2. how long ago since any team in the state of texas won a national championship?

    3. is there a perception that the best football players come from california or florida?

Completely irrelevant. Universities participate in college football, not states.

    See 1.

I'm a Florida native, so I think Florida. Just look at all of the players from The U in the NFL.

great, you can have your opinion about glory. but i know what glory is.
i have met Hakeem and Otis Thorpe. they have glory.
    so does Vince Young.

    Glory.

“I just believe that we’ve just got to believe in each other more,” Young said. “I believe we’ve got to have fun more. I mean, I love this game so much it is ridiculous. We’ve got to do whatever it takes to show that we are excited. When we get that ‘W,’ you are going to see a real big change in us.”

    Vince Young Parade

On February 11, 2006, Congressman Al Green joined state and local officials in recognizing and honoring native Houstonian Vince Young at a ceremony following the Parade of Heroes at Madison High School. The parade was sponsored by the City of Houston, Madison High School, Foley’s department store and the University of Texas. Congressman Green presented Young and his family with a Special Certificate of Congressional Recognition.

They can love him all they want until he puts on an opposing uniform. Then he is the enemy and I will love seeing him get pulverized.

Earl had a HOF career playing for a Houston pro franchise. Vince has never played for a Houston pro franchise.

I love Vince, but I'm not pulling for him. He doesn't play for my team anymore, he plays for one of my team's biggest rivals.

It's funny, I was really pulling for Steve McNair this weekend. I'm so glad I can root for him with a clear conscience now that he doesn't play for the titans. It was hard to root against him all those years because he's such a class guy, kind of like Vince.

If the Texans don't win the Superbowl this year (I know that's a real stretch), I'll be pulling for Baltimore. I want to see McNair get a ring now that he doesn't play for the titans anymore.

This thread has gotten very strange.

I like VY. But anyone that doesn't like him doesn't have to prove they have real Houstonian credentials, or defend their decision not to like VY at all.

I shouldn't have to defend the fact that I do like VY. Neither one makes a person more or less of a real Houstonian.

    I second this post.

If you like VY, good for you. Like him for any number of reasons, its all your personal call, hey, he's got a cool goatee!

I don't like him, he hasn't done anything to make me proud of Houston, or a Houston team, and now he plays for Houston's mortal enemy.

You don't have to justify to me your fandom and I don't need to justify my dislike.

No doubt about the strangeness... I hope Vince Young brings some security next time he is here in Houston. Not because of enemies, but some of the fans... I fear a "love knife" situation.

    <----------------------------->

Kyle and Jack are stopped by Lee, their biggest fan, outside the club they just performed at. After asking for their home address, the two of them walk away from him with ominous music playing)

Jack Black (JB): "This dude is total stalk-a-razzi..."
Kyle Gass (KG): "He's full on love knife material"
    JB: "Love knife?"
KG: "Yeah, you know .. when they get close .. a little TOO close .. 'oh, I love you! I love you! I love you!' .. then *STAB**STAB**STAB** .. ha, and you're covered in blood .. but they think they did a good thing!"
    JB: "Creepy man!"

he's inspired the youth of Houston, his entire high school. unless you have annexed Madison off HISD.

what about the people from Sugarland or the Woodlands? those people aren't really Houstonians either. if you are truly from Houston than you have to live within the 610 loop.

How about this idea? they have some Omar screening line at the airport.. just to check to see what zip code you live in and if you are labeled a "REAL HOUSTONIAN"
sanctioned by the Keeping it Real cause I live in a zipcode comittee.

hey those Katrina thugs are now REAL HOUSTONIANs! they've done Houston proud by car jacking people!

Vince Young gives back to his community and inspires youth in Houston. what have you "REAL HOUSTONIANS" done? oh just hate hate hate

For the Oiler fans, what have you really done? is it hate or jealousy? they almost won the superbowl. do you have hate for the entire team, city of nashville, state of tennesee, or anything east of the mississipii now cause of Bud Adams?

What if Bud Adams bought Pappadeux's? would you hate on Pappadeux's?

do you hate Beyonce cause she hooked up with a New York Rapper instead of Mike Jones?

Lord forbid Mattress Mack from making a Gallery Furniture outside Houston. you guys would cause a riot.

I think you missed the point. The real houstonian argument is stupid, no matter what side you're on.
