    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Micheaux

Larry Wayne Micheaux (March 24, 1960 – ) is a former pro basketball player. The Houston, Texas native played two seasons with three different teams in the NBA: the Kansas City Kings (1983-84), Milwaukee Bucks (1984-85) and Houston Rockets (1984-85). He was also a member of the Phi Slamma Jamma team at the University of Houston in 1982-83.

    ???

So I have to support every pro player from Houston? That's pretty dumb. I'm just going to support players who play for Houston and maybe some special respect to those who one a championship here (Horry, Cassell). Cause really that's what pro sports is all about, supporting your city's teams, not falling in love with a certain person becuase he is so lovely. That's just too much.

MEOWGI- I'm just responding to Omer's post that says "This "true" Houstonian chose to leave the city of Houston to play his college career. A REAL Houstonian doesn't make those kind of moves." I'm sure you will agree that this is bs, since according to this standard, there maybe only 2-3 players in sports that were born, raised, went to college, and the went to the pros all in the same city.

You don't have to support every pro player from Houston and personally I don't care if you love or hate VY. But I do have a problem with guys questioning your fanship because you like a player outside of the Texans, Rockets, etc...

Pro sports isn't only about supporting your city's team. Yes that's part of it, but you can also support other players or teams or whatever you want. You can be a fan of the game and it doesn't take anything away from anyone. I just have a problem with guys like you or Omer who call VY fans out because they support him, do you actually have a problem with supporting a kid who was born and raised here?

Vince Young Day in Houston, Texas
    Jan. 10, 2006

    TEXT OF PROCLAMATION

Texas pride rose to a new level after the University of Texas won the 2006 Rose Bowl game and the National Collegiate Championship. But Houston pride rose even higher when our very own Vince Young led them to that victory. Vince Young has been celebrated by many, and was recently proclaimed by former NFL safety Ronnie Lott to be “the greatest quarterback to ever play college football.”

Born in Houston in 1983, Vince Young learned how to overcome obstacles at a very early age. He was only seven years old when he was struck and injured by a car while riding his bicycle in the street, causing him to be hospitalized for several months. Tougher from the experience, Vince Young went on to greatness. He was named Parade's and Student Sports' National Player of the Year while playing starting quarterback for Madison High School, honored as one of three finalists for the 2005 Heisman Trophy, and became the first and only player in NCAA I-A history to pass for 2,500 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.

Vince Young is a tremendous football player for the Texas Longhorns, but he is also a tremendous person. He volunteers much of his time at schools and in youth programs, helping and mentoring children of all ages. Vince Young is an inspiration to all Houstonians, both young and old.

Therefore, I, Bill White, Mayor of the City of Houston, hereby proclaim January 10, 2006, as Vince Young Day in Houston, Texas.

I love VY and hope he personally succeeds, but isn't he playing for the Titans and Bud ****ing Adams? Even if our lord and savior Kevin Kolb played for the Titans, I'd still hope that they went 0-16.

You guys are rooting for a player who doesn't play for Houston, for a team that LEFT Houston, and for an owner who hates the city of Houston. Real Support there. How anyone can root for the Titans is beyond me.

Just come out and say that you are rooting for him because he went to UT, and most you guys are UT fans. There is nothing wrong with that. I feel he is overrated , and his skillset won't carryover to the NFL, thats why I don't like him.

I cant think of anything more disgusting than what Haynesworth did in this game.

I'd say he deserves to sit out the rest of the year.

He did seem really sincere in his apology and seemed really remorseful but you gotta pay the price for that.

Rooting for VY is different than rooting for the Titans.

You don't think it has anything to do with VY being born and raised in Houston, having a unbelievable career at a Houston high school, and then winning it all for a Texas college? Or are you still supporting your "UH=True Houstonian" theory? Apparently...there hasn't been a "true Houstonian" in the past 20 years.

BTW- What school did you/do you go to?

UH, of course. If you want to support him solely for being from Houston go ahead- but you can't be serious if you think thats the reason why he gets so much support around here. Michael Strahan was born in Houston, and played for TSU, where are the Go Michael Strahan/Giants threads?

Look, I root for any players that PLAY for Houston Teams. Just having Houston connections, isn't enough. I feel he's overrated ,will not be a good NFL QB, and he doesn't play for a Houston team. That is why I don't cheer for him, its that simple.

I know a lot of people that support him because he's from Houston, many of them are Aggies and Red Raiders which hate UT, but they liked VY.

No one is saying you have to cheer for him. As I replied to MEOWGI, I could care less whether you like or hate the guy. But you shouldn't question someone's fanship for a team or for a city just because they like and root for a player outside of Houston.

And trying to say that someone isn't a true Houstonian because they didn't go to UH is just ridiculous to me.

I support Sam Cassell and Robert Horry and Vernon Maxwell and Ralph Sampson and Rudy T and Mario Elie and Kenny Smith.

They dont play for Houston anymore or dont even play. Yet am I traitor to Houston because I believe in these people?

That they spilled their blood for this city?

that they brought glory and honor to a city without championships?

    Omar,

you dont understand anything. let me enlighten you..

People who bring glory to Houston, regardless of where they live now or what team they play for, will ONLY bring more GLORY to Houston.

When Robert Horry keeps racking up championships on other teams, if forces NBA historians to rethink the championship Rockets as a 'one man team' or a team lacking talent.

When Sam Cassell takes a hapless franchise in the Clippers to the playoffs, that brings glory to the championship Rockets. historians will rewrite that Cassell showed wow, those championship Rockets had the GREAT SAM CASSELL.

When kenny smith wins emmies and re-marries supermodels and lives in LA, i'll still watch him on TNT cause he represents Houston.

    Now lets take Vince Young,

he single handedly brought Glory to the ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS. he defeated a CALIFORNIA TEAM that was suppose to be UNSTOPPABLE.
therefore he brought GLORY to Houston. He played his high school ball in HOUSTON. therefore he represents HOUSTON.
the mayor of HOUSTON gave him his own day (how can you criticize VY if you never brought glory to this city?)
Vince Young was the city's host for the TNT NBA All Star programs.

What i read in your threads, is not a reason why to root for him or not, its just
    JEALOUSY
    ENVY
    HATRED

You have to earn your respect with the city of Houston. When Vince Young goes to Pappadeuxs, they will not charge him for a meal. why? he brought glory to Pappadeuxs.

Its about Glory, heroism, heart. this is what clutchcity is about. learn.

No he didn't. He brought glory to the University of Texas and their fans.

Do you seriously not know a thing about rivalries? A&M fans, Tech fans, UH fans, Baylor fans, Rice fans, SMU fans, and even the multitude of OU fans living in Texas weren't happy about UT winning a national championship. It's flat out arrogant, ignorant and incorrect to claim that everybody in Texas was hopping in joy that UT won the title.

When Miami won a national title, do you think FSU and UF fans went crazy? When Michigan won a national title, do you think Michigan State fans cranked "Hail to the Victors" at full volume? When Duke won a national title, do you think UNC, NC State and Wake Forest fans went out and bought Laettner jersey?

I think all the fans of Texas schools were secretly rooting for VY and the Univ. of Texas. I think it is time for you and all these people to come out of the closet.

When Real Madrid won the Champions League in 2001, you know Barcelona fans were secretly rooting for them. It's time for you guys to come out of the closet and admit to your undying manlove for David Beckham and Ronaldo

When the Cowboys won all those titles in the 90's, Oiler fans were secretly rooting for them. I think it's time for you and all these people to admit that Troy Aikman is better than Warren Moon

Hell no... It just got so sad to see Buffalo keep losing that I couldn't help but root for those loveable losers from the North.

he brought glory to the entire state, if you are so blinded by the fact that no team from the state of texas has won diddly squat in collegefootball then so be it.

this is similar how the Rockets brought glory to the to the world when they won the championships.
