Should be hated? Umm.. ok. Well, you won't ever catch me rooting for the Rangers, Spurs, Mavs, Cowboys, etc.. but I'm not going to go out of my way to find reasons to hate those teams. The Mavs have given me a reason to hate them. The Spurs have given me a reason to hate them. The Cowboys have not. (their fans, on the other hand)
It's not all because Vince is from UT. I think Max and everyone in here knows that I'm as diehard of a UT fan as there is. But even as someone who was in the stands back on January 4, the media shoving it down our throats every second can get a little tough to take. I love Vince, and I think he'll be an excellent pro, but it's not a lock. Nothing is. And this attitude some have of how the Texans are complete idiots and the biggest joke in sports history despite there being no proof to substantiate those opinions can wear on me a little bit. I still like Vince, but I understand how some people can get driven over the edge and cheer against him. There's no doubt ESPN's obsession with Bush (along with a few on this BBS) has really influenced me to cheer against him, for example.
Mav hate is rational. Mavs are division rivals. Mavs stand in our way on the road to a Rockets championship. The Cowboys are just a sideshow up in Irving.
You misinterpreted me. UT's football team is dominant in the sense that they're head and shoulders above the other state programs (at the moment), but what I meant is that their fanbase is not dominant within the state of Texas, like Nebraska is in the state of Nebraska. There are just as many A&M fans as UT fans in the state, there are a lot of Tech fans, a lot of UH fans (WHO NEED TO COME OUT TO OUR GAMES), and a decent amount of fans from other schools. That's because there's only one UT-Austin If you're assuming that UT is the only school from the state of Texas recognized around the country/world... woooooow.
U of H has Frenchy's fried chicken. That is recognized world wide as the best fried chicken stand on the planet. props to U of H.
Not that I don't watch the Texans every Sunday, but they are the biggest joke in the NFL currently. They are the only team that hasn't had a winning season. The Devil Rays fans are probably the only fans Texans fans can make fun of. With the Yankees and Red Sox in their division, I never foresee a time when the Devil Rays will make the postseason until baseball has a salary cap. Switching to the 4-3 has probably ended their chances of being .500 until at least 2008 unless they can get some serious luck. Last year, if the Patriots drafted CC Brown in the second round, they would have been treated like geniuses for making such a gutsy pick. The Texans draft Mario one pick over the media darling, they are idiots. Until a team establishes some media cred, any move that doesn't fit media expectations is idiotic until proven otherwise by the standings if you listen to the media. Performance on the field is the only way to make the Texans cease being the NFL Punchline. I don't necessarily agree that every move the Texans make is idiotic, but almost every surprising move they have made, has sucked....Buchanon, Babin, Wand was picked higher than anticipated, etc. I'm glad the Texans didn't draft Bush 1st. The 1st overall is pretty high for a RB that won't get 25-30 touches a game. I do wish the Texans would get a a RB that is a threat out of the backfield like Bush, but not at that the cost (Both the opportunity cost of not being able to get another player and the salary cost associated with giving a rookie near probowler money for his position) it would have taken to get Bush. I will lash out at Bush sometimes due to all the negative hype giving on the Texans because of him. It really isn't his fault the media has appointed him the position of god. The first three games of the season, the Texans didn't look like an NFL team. The salary cap has supposed brought more parity. Mario, Demeco, and Dunta give me hope for the defense in the future. The Texans just need to keep a stiff upperlip and exact payback when they have proof they are no longer a joke.
So if the Rockets passed on Hakeem for Sam Bowie, Houstonians should hope for not just the Blazers team, but for Hakeem Olajawon the individual player (even though he was from Nigera and had only spent what 3-4 years in Htown), to bomb? Same with home grown, Rocket's also passed over, Rashard Lewis? VY wanted badly to play for the Texans, when has another player said that so publicly. VY has personally handled himself well about not being selected by the Texans. What more do you want to have your peace with the man, does he have to give up his NC crystal earned at UT. Rooting for your team do well doesn't mean you have to root for opposing team's individuals to personally fail. If people would own up to rooting for him to fail and their biases against him are foremost because he laced them up for the University of Texas [at Austin ] I could accept that, at least that would be an honest response. I agree about the Cowboy thing. Oilers/Texans have a pretty good history against them, and the Boys never prevented the Oilers/Texans from winning anything. I have been a Boys fan since I can remember and an Oiler fan ditto until they left. There is nothing schitzo about that, now if you were a Pittsburgh Stealer fan in Texas you have a problem. I don't hate other cities--I think do so you have to have a serious insecurity problem about your own city, now their are some other city's teams I can get pretty close to hate, but that is about that team/franchise/fans being despicable/of Satan's doing (e.g., Spurs/Yankees/Stealers/Jazz/ND Irish football team/Iggles/Dukies basketball), not about the city or even college per se. I really would have preferred any realistic team, the Texans, Saints, Jets, Raiders, anyone outside of the Titans, to taking Vince Young. But obviously that didn’t happen. I probably won’t route for them to win the Superbowl or anything, maybe not ever, but certainly not with Butt Adams as the owner. But I certainly route for VY the player to do well. Plus the Titans had the stones to take him, that does make them less bad in my view. I had dropped the at Austin part in particular because many others will say "well there are other UTs, not just Austin". Nothing against those schools and campus, but when only University of Texas referenced around the nation/globe it is assumed to reference the Austin campus. Anyway, I was just being totally obnoxious about that UT dominance stuff (not that I had inaccuracies, but I tried to just get the most smug tone about it) in response to the ludicrous hatoraid towards VY, and what I think is mostly indirect hate via his Longhorn tenure.
I found it funny that right After Mario's Half Sack they showed a BUSH subway Commercial Rocket River
Vince: Hey Dekembe, why are these people hating on me? Dekembe: Cause 'they' dont want us to suceed at the QB positions, they just use wierd and dumb excuses to hide their true feelings. They didnt want Doug Williams to succeed, Warren Moon, Donavan McNabb, Michael Vick either. when they talk about Matt Leinart, they talk about if he's dating Paris Hilton, but when they talk about you they drop some meaningless crap that you aren't a real Houstonian. No one in Cali talks about Leinart not being a real California dude. Vince: Thanks Deke, you the man! Luther: Thanks Vince for the Red Bull! I got wings!
Care to name a few? I know a lot of people like VY but I can't recall a person on this board who actually admits wanting the Titans to win a championship. I love how you think you're a loyal sports fan because its "Houston or nothing," but I guess that doesn't apply for supporting a player because he was born and raised in Houston, had a stellar high school career, and then won a National Championship for a Texas college. So basically you're saying that had Hakeem been drafted to the Blazers, you wouldn't have any respect for people who would have cheered for him?
Yeah man, everyone who doesn't root for VY on the Titans hates black people! That's why I post on Clutchfans BBS, a forum for the Houston Rockets, which is full of aryan poster children such as Tracy McGrady, Shane Battier and Bonzi Wells
Not to the point of obsessiveness and starting threads about him here. That's just gay. I never rooted for the Blazers with Clyde. In fact I really wanted the HOUSTON ROCKETS to beat them in the playoffs. I didn't cheer like a schoolgirl every time clyde scored. I don't remember but I'm pretty sure it pissed me off instead. And hell yeah it would make me made if people around here became Celtic fans if Boston drafted Akeem etc. And I think Timan here wants the Titans to win a Championship. Don't ya tinman..
