I am not saying he is better than any of them (except DC--who I do firmly believe VY will be better than), but I don't see why a system that works for a Steve Young, Elway, McNabb, McNair, Staubach, Cunningham or Culpepper would not work for Vince Young. All these guys were scrablers to throw 1st and runners 2nd. The triple threat--throw in pocket, scramble to throw and scramble to run--made them forces in the NFL. Just because VY and the Texas college system took advantage of his unique talents and had few traditional drop backs plays for him does not mean he can't do that effectively. It didn't take McNabb, Culpepper or McNair long to adapt (admittedly more comparable than Elway or S. Young coming from their college passing systems), and they had more adjustments from their college situations in style and level of defenses faced than VY does coming from Texas. (Also, the #1 overall pick last year was an excellent athlete spread QB--VY lite if you will, time will tell on him, but clearly SF wasn't so bothered about his scheme) Any more than Oilers or Phily or Minn had to adjust for McNair and McNabb and Culpepper the drafting team of VY need not make as many adjustments as you think. VY can read coverages, is unflappable in pressure, is accurate and has a strong arm, the great athleticism is just a bonus. See, I still close to despise Butt Adams and it would much bother me for VY to go there. Anywhere else realistically I am OK with.
Thanks, glad to be here! Hope I can stop myself from adding ****ty bits of information like that! Quite a community we got here!
