I saw Sarunas Marciulionis play in the early '90s with the Golden State Warriors. I must say I was very impressed. Much like Manu Ginobili, Marciulionis was a different breed from most of the US-born NBA players. He would hustle on every play and slash to the basket relentlessly. Plus, IIRC, Marciulionis possessed very sound mid-range jump shooting skills, making him an all-around threat. Too bad injuries ruined his NBA career. Now if VSpan can improve his outside shooting, he may well be another Marciulionis, or Ginobili if you will.

No offense, but the John Stockton comparison is way off.

I see him as having a mix of what those guys brought to the table. When I talk about Stockton,I'm saying Bill possesses similiar attributes...I'm not saying he's the next Stockton, but there are similiarities in their games.I DO believe he will be a more than competent starting point in this league.
    great court vision
    gritty,hardnosed
    gymrat
the ability to get into the lane and make that pass
    ...and he will D up.
His shot is nowhere near Stock's at this point, but don't any of you see what i'm saying. It's not that he's in that class, just has some aspects to his game that remind me of that Jazzhole.

Stockton was better than Nash or Kidd. Stockton is the best pure pg ever. Karl Malone overshadowed Stockton. Stockton was still better than Malone.

I like Vspan too, probably will play significantly latter in the year.

But people who dont quite remember, should know, that Stockton was better than most think. Very under the radar type of superstar.

    All time Assist leader

    All time Steals leader

Solid Scorer, Shooter, Leader. Incredible basketball mind and Iq.

I hate Malone, just like yall. But I love John Stockton, and he is just under-rated on an all time scale.

One other thing.Magic is the greatest point guard of all time.I don't care who you put at off guard with him. From Jordan to Whomever.Johnson was a coach on the floor and was versatile enough to play any position on the court.

I agree. With apologies to Francis above you, if I were picking a team from the all-time greats, and it was time to pick the PG, I would take Magic 100 times out of 100 over Stockton.

Sorry, as good as stockton was, I will never feel anything for him other than loathing. He was the very personification of slimy little punk weasel.

This is some truly weird stuff for a basketball forum. Seems like it should be in a movie or hippie/pschedelia trash pile.

Nash never struck me as "ugly" and I don't get the comparison to the monster.

And virtually anyone can be made to look a lot better or worse just by the angle of the camera shot and the facial expression caputured.

anyway, back to basketball, can V-Span orchestrate and run a fast break with the Rockets?

    I was thinking

and I believe that VSpan could become the NBA leader in steals this season

thats only if he gets his minutes, around 20-25

He does have some quick hands. I like what I saw last night. I hope he can develop his game to fit the NBA & go a far way w/ our team.

I hated John Stockton. I always thought he was a dirty player....remember that game with Brent Price? The 3 he hit against us will always make me hate him.

It would be more impressive if it was spelled 'definitely'.
    I fixed it for you.

When I was typing that, Magic kept bothering me. But I draw a line. Stockton is the best proto type/traditional pg, while Magic is a hybrid, to the likes of which only Lebron compares. Although I think Magic had even more court vision, while obviously LB is a little bit more powerful and overall scorer, because LB is less of a pg.

MJ is better than Stockton. But while Stockton was a great pg, Magic was a great 1,2,3,4 and when needed 5.

Yeah,Magic's court vision was insane wasn't it?I love it when those games are on classic. Those Showtime Lakers with Magic running the show were amazing.Even though we watched them live, going back really makes me appreciate Magic even more.I mean his passing and the way he would even early on finish those breaks with a jam himself if he wasn't passing to Worthy on the wing.Coast to Coast baby!

I forget who said it way back but: "Magic is the only player in the NBA who can completely dominate a game and score just 3 points." The only way you can bring Magic down to Stockton's level is to argue the "pure PG" nonsense. Stockton was great for a long time but Magic is an all-timer.

    ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A TRUE PG, he knows his role, he sets the table.
His vision and bounce passes and most importantly, HIS DEFENCE!! He drew 2,3 offensive fouls, 2 steals, and this guy is a crossover-stopper!!

It'll take him 10,20 games to get use to the longer 3pt line, and that's all it matters!!

    Starting Lineup:

    VSpan
    Snyder
    Tmac
    Battier/howard
    Yao

    oh by the way,

VSpan's defence, passing and CALMness are the reasons why he should replace Rafer.

Great to see the guy getting more comfortable. Having seen him play a number of times in Greece, I must say that he has a lot of potential in the NBA if he can rein in his sometimes wild play. Good thing is that he always works his butt off, which should mean that he at least gets the chance to play for JVG regularly until he improves further.

i don't think he is ready to start. you guys have to remember that we played like **** yesterday. And we almost lost to mavs' NBDL team. There were too many TOs in the game. The shooting percentage wasn't good either. The team has a lot of work to do, mainly on chemistry. i do like what i see from vspan thou. he is quick on defence, and he has excellent vision on offense. He is going to become a decent player. I think we have to give him maybe half of the season to adjust to the pure NBA style. i am not too high on him yet, but i ll. :)
