Just because you don't like or agree with what I say doesn't mean that you should be so rude to another poster , especially one like me who never has has such street habbits. Neither should you make up false information about what I said about Phil Jackson. I believe I said some thing like Phil Jackson was not a good coach but a great manager of great talent, which is what I think about Phil Jackson and I have the right, as a member to express my thoughts as such on this, the Clutch BBS. You of course have every right to express your opinion, should you care to do so. Obviously I have made an errror about Alston and his shooting, according to the statistics presented. I hope he keeps up his performance this season for the benifit of the team. I will still be watching him in every game to see if his passing to Yao Ming has improved, because it needs to!
I have to say Alston is unfairly labeled a poor shooter on this forum. It seems very few people here remember him from Miami. Look people, Rafer had a bad year shooting the ball last year, it happens, every player will have a year where a certain part of their game can be down and many good shooters have off shooting years. In Miami not only was he a good shooter, he was actually a gunner. He knocked down 3's at quite a clip. He's a much better outside shooter than he showed last year, but for some reason 90 percent of the fans here cannot grasp he simply had a down year shooting the rock.
Give it up 3POO... you're a Vspan Hater hiding in sheepskin... lest you forget your comments, "Prepare to be disappointed in Vspan" ... he is just plan D because we have no other options...he has no 1st step quickness... I dare anyone to refute me". Well I refute you and so does the majority of the board. The fact is noone knows for sure how good or how bad Vspan will be. At best we can only speculate on what we see. And what many have seen is he has a lot of skills that could translate into a very good NBA career. But just as you forecast the worst a few people think we have found the next Nash. Both opinions are extreme but as a Rocket fan I find yours more annoying. So until you acknowledge that your first assessments of Vspan were ridiculous and wrong anything you have to say about him should be taken with a grain of salt, and deemed mostly worthless. Oh by the way Vspan has been a winner at every level he has played at. His teams win not so much because he is this great athlete but because he oozes confidence and makes the players around him better. Also when the going gets tough he plays his best. Qualities like that don’t always show up in short clips of video or preseason games but are rare and quite probably more valuable than athletic skill.
While I expect and hope Rafer to be a good 3pt shooter this year, there is legitimage reason why 90 % of the fans here think he''s a bad shooter. Rafer's 3pt shooting 02/03 Tor---39.2%---21st best in League 03/04 Mia---37.1%---42nd best in League 04/05 Tor---35.7%---61st best in League 05/06 Hou---32.7%---95th best in League career average - 35.6% - would be 65th best in League last year I would love Rafer to return to his 37.1% 3-pt shooting in Miami. While he wouldn't be in the elite, that would be good enough to satisfy the Rockets imo. I had a really elaborate post on the Rockets and Rafer's 3pt shooting, I have the link somewhere. The point is you are wrong. It is not "unfair" to label Rafer as a below average shooter. There is legitimate reason for it. It's not "simply a down year". It was a trend. I hope that he bucks the trend. I believe he will. He has looked great in preseason. But you are simply ignoring the evidence with your statements. Rafer was good in Miami. He was not great (42nd best in the League that year is good, not great), but good enough. And his career average is nothing great either. He needs to and is expected to perform better than his career average this year, not just his "down year".
A_3PO got salted!!! Thats what you get for doubting on Kill Bill. Guy's done nothing but improve the last 4 years. Every time we see him he gets better.
Like I said you did NOT watch him PLAY in Miami. He was a very good outside shooter then. I'm not sure what happened last year, but I do know that JVG made that deal to get him based on seeing the same exellent outside shooting in Miami.
Ugh. I did watch him. He hit 3's, he missed 3's. That team was a tremendous 2nd half team with Eddie Jones, and Rafer and Wade and Odom and Caron...they were young and getting better throughout the year. He shot 37.1% from 3ball land, and you say that "very good" and I say okay. I say that's fine. I'm not arguing with you that point. I really hope he shoots as well or better than he did in Miami (3 seasons ago). But you must admit that the evidence shows it wasn't an "off year". It was a trend. That doesn't mean the trend will continue, but it was a trend. You cannot disregard last year, nor 2 years ago in Toronto, anymore than you can regard his year in Miami. His 1 year in Miami does not make his career. Geez, you can look at all players and say "hey, that guy was da bomb in 99". Rafer is a career 35.6%. He needs to shoot better than that this year. That's all I'm saying, and I hope he does it.
Oh wow! LOL! This is good. OMR, you are a joke. I'm a V-Span "hater" because you grab one post out 20-30 comments I've made on him. You mind-readers should apply your trade to other things and get rich. I'm not going to give anything up. If you don't like some of my comments, fine. If you want ignore the positive posts on V-Span fine. Are you his personal keeper? My posts are no more worthless than yours. Neither are anyone else's. You should come down off the high horse but you are free to stay there. Calling someone a V-Span when they aren't is just dumb. Suggestion: Lay off the personal conflicts guy. Grow up. It's really amazing to see how people react when others express doubts about players they adore. Last year it was Stro, this year it may be V-Span, though V-Span clearly has real potential to be an effective player. In previous years we had YOFs and SOFs. On Rafer: Let's just hope he shoots fewer shots at a higher % with the weapons around him. This isn't asking for much and I think he will. Kim, your captioned picture of Rafer a few days ago was priceless.
Rafer with a good scoring percentage would help since he does almost everything else the Rockets want from a PG.
rockets dynasty, i don't see how you can continue to say rafer is a very good outside shooter when he hasn't hit above 37.1% from 3 pt land?? Thats not even in the top 40 in that category? im sorry but im with kim on this one...rafer is an average to below average shooter...the less shots he takes the better off the team is. he is a career 35% 3pt shooter...thats not very good
If Alston can hit around 36% 3-ptrs, that should be good enough to keep the defense honest and create space for the offense. If he like last year hits below 33%, he might lose his starting job. Alston's strength is his handle. He doesn't lose the ball often, and he is an adequate passer. He's a "safe guy" as JVG calls it. Luther Head is a "safe guy" too, according to JVG. But Head is a better shooter than Alston, although Head's handle and passing is inferior to Alston. Spanoulis is not a safe guy. And he is not a good shooter. But he is tenacious and a good passer. It will be interesting how the PG situation plays out during the season.
Ooh 3 Poo Poo doesn't like being called out. I am only posting your words. If you don't like it then stop posting stupid crap. Or at least acknowledge you are an idiot and don't know the difference between talent and a big Poo Poo in your mouth. Other wise you are no different than the guy at the racetrack who keeps screaming this horse stinks send him to the glue factory, he couldn't win against a bunch of cows. And then when he comes in first the man makes a 180... "Yeah I knew he had it in him all along". Well the fact is you did think Vspan was a worthless signing who may never contribute. SO don't come around now trying to make this forum believe otherwise. Your posts are easy to find and cannot be denied. You would love for Vspan to fail so you could say I told you so. Lest you forget after Vspan had a tough 4 minutes in 1 game, you were the first one screaming his demise and how this will bring all Vspan fans back to reality. What reality would that be POO POO? Because if we are talking your reality where he is a slow worthless draft pick that may never contribute. You can keep your POO POO reality.
OMR, you need a tranquilizer. Do you honestly think you can harass someone into not posting? This is like the 4 different thread where you've flipped off at me about V-Span. Throw the sticks and stone. That's what juveniles do. I'll post whatever and whenever I want. I suggest you grow up and not try to hijack every thread on V-Span. Whatever tranq you take, make it a strong one.
It's not enough for a low 2nd round pick that he'd contribute like a Brevin Knight, Kirk Hinrich, Andre Miller or anyone that's a for real NBA player. He has to be looking like Steve Nash and Jason Kidd. That's After he stunk it up his first 2 games and figuring to not make the 12 man squad. V-Span's shown enough the past stretch of games to indicate good play will be the norm yes and we're allowed to be changed into believers but there can be some wide swings of opinions in here. Novak shoots 2 for 7 from three and is called Mr Money, a legend is born. Rafer with the ball in his hands turns his head away from Yao .7 seconds too soon and he's garbage cuz he's not maximizing his use. And its probably cuz he wants to shoot to get his (like Rafer plays like Mike James). I guess anyone with scruffly hair all over his body that throws himself around hitting the floor alot, who speaks with a funny accent who's physique looks like its food intake consists of the occasional beer and cheeseburger is just gonna gain some fan support
Only if he's white. Otherwise he's just a ****** fans boo the hell out of. See Curry, Eddy; Sweetney, Michael; Miller, Oliver, etc. Nevermind... I don't recall any of the above fatties make a hustle play. May Oliver Miller did...
Because the 2nd one clinched the game for us, then he followed up with a 5-6 performance from three the very next night! 2-4 2-5 2-7 5-6 not bad for four games in preseason from a rookie (overall 50%)
