Folks, reading comprehension: This is just a tabloid speculating, not VSpan acting up. People here always use every opportunity to jump on some player/coach whom they hate. I confess I do that sometimes.
Bball years are short for Bball athletes....especialy when you reach 25 years old. He wants to make a step forward and establish himself. And by sitting in the bench behind James and Rafer isn't actually a step forward. Let's say he stays at Houston this year. I give 10% chance of V-Span being in front of Rafer at roster..not because he is worse, but because Houston needs proven players right now. The year passes and Spanoulis is still an experiment, the unknown factor... So i think you're wrong.It's not a matter of ego,it's common logic really. An all star in Greece(Europe) or another year of risk at NBA?
so its logical to give up a multi-million dollar contract in the biggest basketball stage on the planet? Not to mention that other teams in the future will look at how he acted here if he ever wants to come back to the NBA. Even if V-Span didn't say those things in the greek paper, the fact that he refused to play summer ball and is still contemplating his future here despite the fact that he has a contract makes me think its ego.
I really don't understand the general attitude towards Spanoulis here. To me he clearly is way better than John Lucas, Kirk Snyder, Luther Head, and Rafer Alston, yet so many fans seem so anxious to see him leave. Why on earth why? Do so many fans really want Rafer Alston or Luther Head or John Lucas manning any, I mean any minutes at point guard? Actually, in reality, Mike James is a 6th man on a team that wants to win a championship, not a starter. It's really confusing to me how so few fans seem to be able to see that Spanoulis is the only player on the roster that actually has the potential to be that starting point guard that the Rockets need. I am not saying he is already necessarily, just that he's the only one that can be. And how else are they going to acquire one? But sure, even with that being said the smart and prudent thing to do is to just let him go or trade him for garbage because after all the Rockets already have Rafer Alston you know. Rafer Alston and John Lucas are going to back up a 6th man type player on a team with title aspirations, or possibly even Alston still starts and plays major minutes, and heaven forbid Luther Head mans the point. He's as horrible as they come in the whole NBA at that position, but hey the one guy (Spanoulis) on the team with the potential to start and man the point, let's not try to see if he can get it going, let's not try to capitalize on that actual chance he has because he actually has the ability to be that guy, let's just get rid of that "prima donna." And let's just constantly repeat that he has no talent, that Rafer Alston is "better" than him, because if we keep repeating it over and over, it may actually become true in our own minds. To me this is precisely the perfect example of the short sighted thinking that so many fans here are displaying, that the Rockets management also showed in recent years under Dawson and Van Gundy, and exactly the type of thinking that I was hoping that Adelman and Morey would not show. To stop this train wreck of "win now" by doing everything possible in your power to assure that you are not going to be capable of even having the chance to "win now," all the meanwhile claiming that all of your moves were done specifically because of the "win now" mantra. This is just nonsensical to me in every sense.
This has been argued ad infinitum but what empirical proof do you have that VSpan is better than not one but all four of these players. He has no NBA stats, not even significant minutes that you can even say he looked good out there. Until proven otherwise I'd say at least RA and Luther Head deserve to start ahead of him based on what they have contributed to the Rockets as a team.
I don't think that's the general attitude at all here! I think there's a massive number of people who feel the opposite way! There are SO many threads and posts about how V-Span is the answer to all of the Rocket's woes...so I think its a far cry from saying that the general attitude is that he sucks. That being said, forget his "potential" (because at this point that's all it is - potential), I'm talking purely about his attitude. I know there was the on-going thing between him and JVG and I know the people who love V-Span will say JVG made all that up. Fine, we won't even argue about that. But lets talk about what is happening right now. The guy is under contract with the Rockets, but even in the kindest light to him he is flirting with the idea of joining a european team (something specifically prohibited by his contract) and the guy was "asked" to come to play in the summer leauge - something Morey said they could MAKE him do contractually, but they've refrained from doing that - and he flat out said no. I don't care how much potential he has, just looking purely at his actions this summer...even in the kindest light to him...makes me dislike the guy. I'm sorry, he just hasn't earned the right to be the primadona he is proving to be.
Thank you !! You just can't say "Bye Rockets thanks for the money I'm not going to play for you !!" Its a contract and he signed it !! I'm so sick of V-Spans whining and crying....When he played he turned the ball over and couldn't hit an outside jumper if the basket was 1 in. in front of him.....All I want him for is trade bait !! The Rockets own him and can trade him or do whatever they want with him so if he does not come back to America then he will have to face the courts as he signed a contract !!
Some of you really do have reading comprehension skills. Again, Vspan has not said a word. THE PAPER is saying that whereas before it was likely he would return, things seem different now BECAUSE OF WHERE THE ROCKETS FIND THEMSELVES (due to personnel moves)! It's speculation, that I'm taking to mean that the ROCKETS are wondering whether they should cut him loose & move on without him due to their glut of guards. That's it. That's all it is. Agreed, if Vspan pulls the ripcord then he is a puss, but the paper is not saying that at all, they are saying it's the Rockets who might just say f it. Anyway, it's still about 90+ degrees outside and it's past midnight... Nasty. I'm off to the islands in a few hours. Hopefully when I log back on in a couple of weeks, we'll have trader Rafer & Sura for a PF or something and this will all be moot. I will be broke by then thanks to the f'd up exchange rate from dollar to euro... I will need some good news at that point.
If you could be the CEO of a promising small to medium sized company and really show what you have and utilise your talents and knowledges at your job day in and day out, compared with being a photocopier admin type person in the biggest company in the country. What would you choose? It's probably not exactly the same scenario but its pretty similar.
Keep in mind that in Greece he will be king only with Pao fans. The rest of fans will not show him any love. People make him sound a lot more popular in Greece than he really is.(amongst the collection of Greek fans anyway).
Sounds like V-Span really believes in his abilities, doesn't it? He doesn't want to have to compete for a job, he wants it handed to him. Assuming the article in question is accurate and the MJ trade is really making him reconsider staying, I say we trade his ass to Boston. Make him see what it's REALLY like to suffer in the NBA.
I don't understand the hatred for him either? You would think as Rocket fans that people would want him to succeed but it seems just the opposite is true. I just can not stand the thought of Rafer Alston being on this team, even one more year, the guy is on the decline........it is time for a change. Rafer can't hit layups, I mean he can't hit a layup....how is that possible? The guy just has to go..... Here is to hoping that Rafer is included in a Drew Gooden type of trade.... DD
