I think we still need a PF, cause we can't be sure that Scola will be great in his 1st season but I'm excited about him.

He clearly isn't, especially with Sarunas back in Europe.

No scola will be great for the rockets and should be good for 35+ mins a game. I have no doubts about scola's abilities.

The same sarunas who busted bigger than vspan cause he actually got an opportunity to play, fell flat on his face and bounced around from team to team?

His last two stops did not end on a high notes. He came out of no where with his resignation in New York and no matter how positive they tried to spin it in Houston there was plenty of bad blood between him and some of the other Rocket brass not to mention the players. Not to mention the star center of the team Yao came close to openly criticizing him because he didn't play Snyder in the Utah series.

Winning % is great but has he ever won a title or lets take a step back and say how many playoff series has the guy won? That's what makes or breaks you in the pros. His 8 seeded Knicks over achieved because they were JVG players to the Max. It was like he had 8 Shane Battiers that season and that's never going to happen for him again no matter how bad he'd like to have that old Knicks team back. We all know he tried to recreate that team here in Houston and that experiment failed.

Jeff is a good coach don't get me wrong, but like his teams, he just doesn't have that extra gear that the champion coaches do.

I knew this argument would be made so here is JVG record:

    Coaching record
Team Year Regular Season Post Season
Games Won Lost Win % Finish Won Lost Win % Result
    NY 95/96 23 13 10 .565 2nd in Atlantic Division 4 4 .500 Conf. Semifinals
    NY 96/97 82 57 25 .695 2nd in Atlantic Division 6 4 .600 Conf. Semifinals
    NY 97/98 82 43 39 .524 2nd in Atlantic Division 4 6 .400 Conf. Semifinals
    NY 98/99 50 27 23 .540 4th in Atlantic Division 12 8 .600 NBA Finals
    NY 99/00 82 50 32 .610 1st in Atlantic Division 9 7 .563 Conf. Finals
    NY 00/01 82 48 34 .585 3rd in Atlantic Division 2 3 .400 1st Round
    NY 01/02 19 10 9 .526 - - - - -
    NY Total 420 248 172 .590 - 37 32 .536 -
    HOU 03/04 82 45 37 .540 5th in Midwest Division 1 4 .200 1st Round
    HOU 04/05 82 51 31 .610 3rd in Southwest Division 3 4 .429 1st Round
    HOU 05/06 82 34 48 .415 5th in Southwest Division - - - -
    HOU 06/07 82 52 30 .634 3rd in Southwest Division 3 4 .429 1st Round
    HOU Total 328 182 146 .555 - 7 12 .368 -
    Total 748 430 318 .575 - 44 44 .500 -

Depending on what you consider a good playoff run he's only been deep twice once he made it to the Conf. Finals and once he made it to the Finals. He's been knocked out in the 1st round four consecutive times. Most of his better days was with that old Pat Riley team he took over and eventually got to the finals with.

I knew this argument would be made, so here is VSpan's record.

Heypartner that's funny but I'm not making this a V-span vs JVG thing I'm approaching it from is JVG a coach that will win a title in the next 10 yrs. Looks to me like he's on a down trend in the latter part of his coaching career.

    1) who criticized him? you say yao almost did..what does that even mean? plus, relying on snyder to win that series is a bit comical. Lead with 4 minutes...the team had their chance.

    2) has he ever won a title? you want to play that game? has jerry sloan? nellie? etc...all great coaches who didnt win a title. thats not a good argument.

    3) he did recreate the team in houston. From a non-playoff team full of crappy attitudes and an asylum that was run by the inmates to a top 5-7 team in the league. Sounds like a dam good recreation to me.

    4) extra gear? what does that even mean? he hasnt had the extra talent. He lost to a good spurs team, without his starting center (injury) and then the rockets were losing to simply better teams due to lack of talent. Yet, those teams still put up a helluva fight

Sample size is too small to make any judgement. Go look at jermaine oneal's first years stats or tmac's, or better yet, nash's.

No I am not Euro and I'm not into Greek love either. Has JVG achieved more in the NBA than V-span sure he has, but then again V-span never did anything in the NBA did he? Why would you want to waste more of Yao and Mac's career that window is getting pretty close to being shut for the Rockets and then it's rebuilding time.

you're right. the sample size is too small. We should probably include VSpan's second yr as well.

I think this has more to do with CD's trades and drafting of Yao. With our talent on paper, we were right at where we were supposed to be. JVG never beat people's expectation, that's why he is now a goner.

    1) Don't make me find the quote by Yao I'm to lazy.

    2) Yes I agree but take a look at Jeff's recent results or even overall results he hasn't been past the 1st round in a long time.

    3) That's not true the Rockets made the playoffs with SF and crew and lost to the lakers in the 1st round.

    4) Talent short yeah but when you refuse to develop your players or won't play guys over politics who should be blamed? The coach maybe?
