What do you think a North Korean nuclear cap deal is going to look like?

There is a price to pay if you want to get a hostile country desperate for nukes to halt their program, and allow UN inspectors to keep a close eye on them.

Had Obama not engaged in diplomacy with Iran, all of the fears we have about North Korea would be duplicated by the fact that Iran was closing in on a nuclear weapon that could strike Israel fairly easily.

So unless you have a better idea that Obama had without war, I'm all ears. If not, shut up about the Iran nuclear deal.

Just so we’re clear: The Obama administration described a person who had allegedly helped procure components for IEDs that would be used to kill Americans in Iraq as a "businessman." That’s like describing Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar as an “entrepreneur”: It’s technically accurate, but it's also a striking omission of critically important details.

We should have just let Israel bomb their facilities like they did with Iraq.

I ask this question every time people complain about Syria, but I'll ask it again here: what should the Obama administration have done? These are not easy issues that fit into our partisan tit-for-tat, they're geopolitical problems that pose a grave threat to millions of people. They deserve nuanced thought and arguments grounded in reality. @dobro1229 makes a good point: the reason that belligerent regimes like Iran and North Korea pursue nuclear weapons to begin with is to acquire a bargaining chip. Their incentive to give up that chip needs to be compelling.

And this is relevant to what?
    There was a presidential election.
Donald Trump is president of the United States.
    The year is 2017.
Wake up from your wet dream, for it is no dream: Trump is the dude in your bed!

Opponents of the Iran deal are mad that Obama didn't just hand them the political ammunition they needed to shoot the deal down?

The guys Obama released didn't automatically become great people when Trump won. Just because it is 2017 doesn't mean they are not a threat.

This line of reasoning reminds me that my father always like to say: Graveyards are full of indispensable men. The implication with this story is that if not for these particular "businessmen" Iran would not have been able to advance their nuclear and other offensive capabilities, that they were stymied while these guys were imprisoned, and that they will now be better able to advance with them free. In truth, when you take one guy off the playing board, there are a thousand other guys ready to take his place. Unless you are constantly and systematically depleting Iran's agents as they enter the fray, you're not going to disrupt the machinery. Since there are twice as many fugitives in this deal as prisoners, I'm guessing we're not doing well with systematic removal. Some other means, be it sanctions, war, diplomacy, or whatever, will be the key, not locking up a couple of the cogs in the machine.

Obama swaps smugglers who have not committed a violent crime and were not terrorists in exchange for American lives - and the alt-right throws a fit

Whatever you can do to distract from the disaster that is Trump and all the ways in which his henchman have lied and subverted the truth with respect to foreign influence in our latest election. So boring.
