That's hilarious. I was just listening to Being There the other day. That's a great album. I like it better than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot as well. An album I like by them, that I think many didn't rank so highly was the Summerteeth album. I liked it a lot at first, and then didn't listen for a long time. I just came back to it. Did you see the documentary on Wilco making the Yankee...Foxtrot album? I can't remember the name of it, but it was pretty interesting.
wilco is great but is there any love for son volt or jay farrar's solo stuff? i saw him at the bandshell at prospect park during celebrate brooklyn last summer. after close to two hours of beautiful music he said no one had told him how long to play, so if we didn't mind he would just keep on going. awesome.
I love Son Volt. I would really enjoy a live show by them I'm sure. I've heard one Jay Farrar song, and I liked it, but for some reason I haven't investigated any more than that. Honestly if I had to chose between Son Volt and Wilco, that choice would probably change daily depending on what mood I was in at the time.
FB, I need to see that documentary. I did get "Summerteeth" recently but haven't had a chance to listen to it with all the other stuff I have gotten (I completed the rest of my Miles Davis catalog). Hopefully, I can listen to it in the next day or so along with the 2 indie-label albums that Beck released in 1994.
OK, Manny.... I do want to comment on the Wilco, Byrds thing though. My favorite Wilco album is still the first - followed by Summerteeth and Being There. I was actually disappointed in Yankee Foxtrot Hotel, so much so that I have not bought the follow up. However, I did see the 'making of YFTH' and it was quite good. You should be able to rent it at a half way decent video store. For me, the Byrds simply put out more good albums and I like most the different stages they went thru' as well. Of course, most critics will point to Sweet heart of the Rodeo as their crowning achievment, but I like 'The Notorious Byrd Bros as much. Plus all the early stuff when Gene Clarke was still in the band was great (when they were the US's Beatles) and the the EZ Ryder period which also cannot be ignored. All in all, my vote Byrds.
