i think a.t.d.i. broke up b/c the 2 guys from mars volta wanted to do more experimental stuff. there is a definate floyd influence in their music. also fugazi. they still have the intensity of a.t.d.i., but are not as one-dimensional. sparta is the other 3 guys from a.t.d.i. and they are pretty bad, in my opinion. i think the only reason they got a record deal was b/c they used to be in a.t.d.i. if you like dub, the mars volta guys had another group called defacto that did really spacey psychedellic stuff.
At the Drive In ~ an "emo rock band"!? Dude, what are you talking about? Btw - Sparta and Mars Volta are both great bands.
The Mars Volta stuff is crazy, I need to listen to more of it, dont really like "The Widow" that has been getting air time, any suggestions of songs I should check out?
Well, when I don't have a CD by an artist, I have to rely on allmusic to tell me about them and that is what allmusic said about At the Drive-In (granted they also said they were a couple other styles):
I love allmusic, i'm on there constantly, in fact I think a few years ago I found out about allmusic on the bbs.

ATDI is like an explosive 'wall of sound' with a touch a melodic psychedelia ~ no 'shoe gaze' emo music here.

Bumping till tomorrow morning. Standings are similar to last update except Mott The Hoople and Yes are tied. 8 votes a piece. - All the Young Dudes -
I'm really shocked that the Byrds are beating Wilco. I understand the Byrds had a lot of influence with that 12 string guitar sound that a lot of bands tap into, and they had some top quality songs. They also had a lot of songs which are almost unlistenable because of over psychidelic aspect of them. I appreciate the Byrds, but Wilco just seems more consistent, etc.

I agree. I am listening to Wilco right now in the 2nd disc of "Being There". This album is just as good or even better than "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". They are one of the best bands we have performing today.
