I want someone similar to Brad Stevens

I don't know who on this list is like him, but JVG, D'Antoni are definitely not. I don't think Vogel, Sam Cassell, Kenny Thomas, David Blatt, or Shaka Smart are either.

    Van Gundy all the way.

    Van Gundy's teams net ratings:
    03-04 = #9 1.93
    04-05 = #5 4.46
    05-06 = #19 -2.02
    06-07 = #4 5.33

    Vogel's teams net rating:
    10-11 = #19 -1.37
    11-12 = #8 3.69
    12-13 = #9 4.33
    13-14 = #8 4.65
    14-15 = #16 0.40
    15-16 = #11 1.77

Vogel's best was #8 in a very weak Eastern conference. Van Gundy had #4 and #5.

Originally I wanted JVG or Messina. I think Messina will wait for Spurs job... and with Vogel's availability now put him above JVG. I'd be happy with either, though.

Van Gundy had T Mac and Yao and never got out of the first round

Vogel took Paul George and bums to the ECF twice

I would prefer Vogel as option #1 by far. I lived in Indiana at the peak of his success, got to take in some games, and those were some well-coached teams.

If he can't be acquired, I'd be happy going with JVG.

Most of the other candidates I've heard are solid maybes. Only decisive nos for me: D'Antoni, and anyone without a bit of coaching experience like Kenny.

JVG and Vogel may not have a ring, but they've accomplished plenty as coaches. What has Sam I Am done as a coach?

Vogel isnt a bad choice, but I still go with JVG currently.

The last thing the Rockets need to do right now is hire a coach that just got let go from the east. Jvg, like Kerr before going back to coaching, has had time to study the game objectively without bias as an analyst at espn for the last several years. Jvg went on a break from a highly stressful job, is now refreshed, mentally rejuvenated and ready to lead a young team to the promise land. The Basketballl knowledge he has accumulated over that last several years by just watching the best teams play year after year is alone worth the signing of JVG, get err done Morey!

He hasn't been given a shot
because people want to just keep rolling the same 10 coaches out over and over
and figure eventually they will win

And you think this organization should gamble on a new coach?

No. This is not the time to gamble with a new coach.

Vogel hardly qualifies as a retread just because he's coached somewhere else before. Dude is gonna be only 43 next month. Lionel Hollins is a retread. D'Antoni absolutely is a retread. Vogel is just a guy who got on the bad side of Bird in Indiana for whatever reason and finds himself temporarily out of a job.

JVG. Vogel would probably be fine, but I have a good feeling about Van Gundy part II. He was a very good coach in his first run, and as smart as he is, with several years to reflect and learn, I think he would run a much better offense than he did in the past.

We will all be sick to our stomachs if JVG winds up elsewhere, coaching a killer defense and some sweet motion offense variation with the help of some unheard of offensive guru at his side, then cracking everyone up with some unintentional dry humor in post game pressers, while we listen to Mark Jackson comment about our poor ball movement iso ball under Vogel.

What did Steve Kerr accomplish as a coach before the Warriors?

Someone had to give jVg and Vogel their first shot. Someone had to give Kerr his first shot.

Nobody would ever get a job in any field ever if people insisted on on experienced candidates. You get experience by someone giving you a shot.

Last I checked there wasn't any other team in the NBA even slightly interested in hiring Van Gundy. You must be paranoid or just suffer from fomo.

I respect van gundy and love his respect for houston, but i think he simply has low basketball IQ. He made too many dumb decisions last time he was here, and I won't forget that.
