May be a little premature, but what is his value and do you sign him at Ron's expense if necessary?

His value is definately more valuable than this thread.

I would probably give him around 3 mil a year.

Yes I would re-sign Von Wafer even if we were going to re-sign Ron Artest. I'm not sure how the salaries will work, but I would re-sign Wafer for sure.

    Why?
    - He's our best scorer off the bench
    - He doesn't take idiotic shots like a guy like J.R Smith does
    - He still has a lot of potential

However, the only thing I am concerned with is Von Wafer's personality. I believe he does like it here in Houston, but I am not sure if he's the type of person like Mike James or Mikki Moore that would leave a championship contending team for money. One thing for sure is that I know Von Wafer is not a franchise player, but he's a heck of a role player. I do hope we re-sign him, he does not make consistent mistakes like some of other young players do like Aaron Brooks and don't give him too much money too we don't want to spoil him. ;)

Playing time is big thing for him and its not going to be pretty working out minutes for him if the Rockets fully expect McGrady to return to the lineup and re-sign Artest. He's going to evaluate the right situation for himself for the right price as he has the right to do but if I were a betting man, I wouldn't bet on Wafer returning to the Rockets even though I really want him back.

    3 years, 7 million
    4 years, 9 million

Keep in mind what Landry's value was and he wasnt fighting the economy when he got his contract.

    Why is this, my friend?

I'm sure Von Wafer could get plenty of minutes here.

IF Tracy McGrady comes back at all, he's certainly not going to play more than 30 or so minutes, if that much. Same thing with Ron Artest if he's back.

Von Wafer's going to get playing time here. Possibly as much as 20 to 25 minutes a night sometimes. Wafer has earned a spot in the rotation. If you add McGrady or somebody else, there's nothing wrong at all with a nine-man rotation. We haven't had enough good players on this team in so long that we're thinking it's a bad thing.

The guy's minutes he's likely to cut into are Shane Battier's.

Battier is a lot like Bruce Bowen in San Antonio. Even in Bowen's heydey, he still split time at that wing spot with Stephen Jackson and Jaren Jackson and Manu Ginobili and some other people. Battier wants to play defense and give you smart play and effort plays. He isn't big on scoring.

    That's where Von comes in.

There's time and there's opportunity here for him. If he wants it.

 What in the world are you talking about? I don't even get what you meant in the bolded part either.

Tracy is not coming back after 2010 and I'm not sure if this organization still has any hope or confidence for him. I just really hope Von is re-signed. He impacts this team a lot more than people think.

Von will be looking for a starting spot, and/or guaranteed contract and security.

I doubt he signs here again if Ron and Tmac are here...I would trade both Ron and Tracy and run with Von and Battier, and whomever you get for Tmac and Ron.

I have no problem with Ron....Although, this guy has never had 2 straight years of being a saint. I don't have a problem with Artest, I know he can be a black hole offensively many times however he does help this team a lot with his 3 point shooting, defense and his toughness.

I just hope we can re-sign Von and I certainly hope we don't re-sign Tracy. LoveRonHateTracy. ;)

TMac's trade value is going to be through the roof, IMO.

With teams looking to cut salary for free agency in 2010, you could get a legit superstar from a team that is looking to build around someone new...\

The Heat have already said they will be buyers in 2010, what would it take to get Mr. Wade...

I would give someone elses arms and legs for a chance at that guy.

Dont flame me, cant a man dream...

The stars have to align perfectly on this one and that's not going to happen. We got lucky as hell to get T-Mac the first time and everything from a pouty T-Mac to a dope GM in Wesibrod made it happen. Hard to strike lightning in a bottle twice.

Not to mention if the heat are "buyers" that implies they want to buy and trade for talent to surround D-Wade not sell him off.

But its ok you can dream. :p

    This is true.

Hopefully Von Wafer does not pull a Josh Childress.

I think Von's dream has always been NBA, and now that he has MADE it, and shown he belongs I suspect he wants to stay.

I'm afraid Von will see his chance to make it to the next level financially, and will be offered either a starting spot, or a solid 6th man spot. I really hope the Rockets can find a way to keep him, and that maybe he will see Houston as the team that gave him a chance, and that will factor in.

we MUST resign him. he's like our JR smith/jason terry and provides INSTANT offense off the bench. we haven't had that kind of player in a LONG time.

like i said, he was our "game-changer" in the portland series. whenever he entered the game, it seems like we extend the lead or cut into a deficit.
