Agreed about JR Smith, but Von seems to be less of a knucklhead and drives more often. Let's hope he stays that way. It would be nice for us to have a JR Smith, or Ben Gordon type on our team for a change, right? DD
jr smith is probably the best comparison but i can see the butler comparison, their jumpshots are look alike, butler is probably a better ball handler but one thing I think isn't talked about enough is his passing ability. that pass he made to brent on the fast break i believe in the second was on the money from 40 to 50 ft. and he has a willingness to pass off his drives that's refreshing from a guy who is fighting to stay in this league.
Just my opinion, but I think passing is probably one of his biggest weaknesses. Still, you can't ask for more in a role player. Someone with youth, shooting and athleticism and is actually full sized for their position? Thank God Carrol Dawson is gone. I forgot the type of players other teams have been stocking their rosters with.
I think hes a good passer it might juss not look good cuz we all know how Yao cant catch sometimes... and ive always seen him make good decision on the fast break wether its a good pass or the decision to take it himself like when he blew by kobe n jammed it
I think we should all hold off on our thoughts about what Wafer is or isn't...he is just getting started...let's see 30 games......I am sure he is playing well within himself, and may be capable of much more....once he gets completely comfortable. DD
he's only started 7 games. he's averaged about 16-2-2 with over 1 steal per, all while shooting at very good %'s and very low to's. small sample size, yes. however he has showed that he has tool which should keep him producing at a nice level. he's got good size and athleticism which help make him a good one on one as well as team defender. he's got a good shot from mid range and the 3. he can drive and either finish or pass. going forward i'd like to see him work on creating his own shot, rebounding, and really becoming a stopper on defense (since he has all the tools to do it).
Von will not be this highly sought after commodity after this season. Stop overvaluing our players like they are the next great thing. I'll admit that he's been a breath of fresh air around here, but he isn't even as talented as JR Smith. Last year JR was second in points per minute to only one Kobe Bryant. We could easily lock up Wafer for relatively nothing, and I think he'd jump at it considering the road he has been forced to toe so far.
Baller, But we may be in a situation where we have to wait on him to get an offer again ala Landry. DD
I love the fact that he jump pretty high on his jump shot which makes it VERY difficult to block if you ever notice when he takes a few dribbles from the three point line inside to mid range and jump over his defender
I hate to join the critics, but there are so many examples of plug-player-X-into-star's-role-when-star-is-hurt where X starts averaging big #s and surprising everyone. Remember Flip Murray in Seattle? His stats starting for a half season in place of Ray Allen were amazing. Wafer deserves a lot of praise, but I'd just throw another note of caution in there.
I've seen some nice dumpoff passes from him when he drives in and he tries hard on defense, not like he's giving ole' defense. I think both will get better with more experience. I think we need to lock him up long term with a reasonable contract. Barry is a short term fix, Luther is a bust, and I seriously doubt Tmac's future here when next year rolls around. If anything he is cheap quality depth. But what I see is a hungry player wanting to be better and wanting to take that next step beyond journeyman status.
No, not in that regards, but in a situation where he tests the waters and we kind of have to wait to see what his market value is....we actually have no rights beyond this season to him. DD
Reminds me of a smaller Rashard Lewis. He's got that upright running style. We haven't seen any post up opportunities I suppose. Funny thing about this thread, someone said he has no mid range game although he's been hitting that dribble drive mid range shot like money. Someone else said he can't pass although he's led several breaks and also made a couple of dazzling passes, that shovel pass to Carl Landry in the Lakers game was ridiculous. I've love to see Wafer out there with TMac and Artest. Maybe TMac playing point foward. TMac, Artest, Wafer, Scola, and Yao is our best five I believe, especially against big/long teams.
