IMO wafer was playing for a contract this past season. a couple of times you could see his teammates on the bench saying "why won't he pass the ball" while he's in the game. maybe the coaching staff feels like he's not a great teammate. maybe the front office feels that if given a guaranteed contract, he won't play as hard. i think budinger or taylor may make us forget about wafer this season... and unlike wafer, might even earn the respect from their teammates, coaches, and front office.
Sorry buddy, Boki made his decision... http://www.bokinachbar.com/?p=3137&lang=EN Boki continues his career in Turkey, he signs one-year deal (plus one-year extension) with Efes Pilsen from Istanbul. There were also offers from NBA, but Boki decided to stay in Europe for one more year since Efes Pilsen presented ambitious plans for next two seasons. Anyway, NBA comeback stays in Boki’s heart…good luck Boki !!!
For anyone about to respond with, "But Jermaine Taylor hasn't played 1 minute in the NBA yet, Wafer is proven", I say, look back at Wafer this time last year. I trust our scouting and evaluation to make the right decision. If they see enough out of Taylor to not even seriously offer Wafer a contract, then either they are very high on JT, or Wafer is very replaceable. As for being unproven, so was Brooks, Landry or any other rookie. All Wafer was proven for this time last year was he wasn't cut out for the NBA. Yet we saw something there others did not. The only thing proven here is Morey's ability to find diamonds in the rough. And yes Wafer is now more proven. But proven what is up for discussion. To some, now he has proven more than ever that he is a volatile, selfish, hot/bone head who does not fit a team setting. For such a proponent of team ball, Dadakota, don't you see this in Wafer? Ok, so he didn't hold on to the ball as long Tmac or Ron, but he certainly never let go either.
man, i'm gonna miss him. i REALLY enjoyed him on our team. notice alot of his dunks were after steals and then onto fastbreaks. the best one was the portland game. i was there and it ignited the TC!!!
I do see that, but I also know that when he was asked to pass, he did it adequetly, I believe he was doing EXACTLY what he was told to do....score the ball, and he did it efficiently......the best efficiency we have had at the SG position in a long time. So, if this is true, and it may be, I wish him good luck....and I think the Rockets are making a BIG mistake, you don't let budding quality players walk without getting something for them....that is bad asset management. And it is where $$$$ball fails......lots of low risk players = no chance of winning the big prize....at some point you have to roll the dice with some riskier players. DD
of course he was playing for a contract. he was playing to stay in the league. the guy has been bouncing around for 5 years now.
Last year would have been his rookie year had he gone to college for 4 years......sometimes it takes a player a while, you have to admire how hard he had to work to stay in the league. Von is getting better and better.....he is just scratching the surface.....I hope this is wrong and he stays here, he is the best scoring wing on the entire team. Better than Ariza, Battier, Barry, Taylor, Budinger....and not by a little by a lot....we are going into an NBA campaign where the SHOOTING guard position is manned by people who are not good at scoring the ball on an NBA court. That is AWESOME......in a not so awesome way. DD
Wafer's service are not in big demand... Athletes come a dime a dozen in the NBA. All you have to do is go and get one. The role that Wafer played with this team will be filled without skipping a beat. Wafer was a fad.
Just my thoughts, but yeah the guys says we lose Von to Phoenix, but if you look at his tweet before that, he says Wilcox has a offer from Houston. Why doesnt anybody mention this. Its news to me.
Actually, it would have been Von's second year. He played two seasons at Florida State before coming out, and this was his fourth NBA season. I'm going to defer to Daryl Morey on this one. If he truly believes that Jermaine Taylor is a superior player to Von Wafer (or at least the superior value at their relative salaries), then I will give Morey the benefit of the doubt. As much as you love Wafer, I hope that you will, too.
so dd...do you think the talent of the role players (around our broken core of tmac and yao) has got better every year?
LOL - it ain't carrying if they don't call it.........he averaged .93 turnovers per game.......that is less than 1... No one calls carrying or palming anymore.... DD
The vintage is acid, isn't it? I guess Morey had offered Ron an above-average contract in his re-signing negotiation, but Ron declined it and turned to Lakers for an exact mid-level contract. The Rockets are a great team without T-Mac and they can still stay good even without Yao, but no way could they remain a decent team after losing all of them. If Wafer also walks else where, then Adelman will have to play a rookie as our starting SG, and our starting center may be a sophomore. Scola and Brooks are juniors, the Battier will be the only veteran in our starting 5. That's even lamer than the squad of Grizzlies and Thunder.
