I agree with you, but it looks as if the rockets are going to go with developing the Taylor kid over keeping Von. Von knew the rockets system well and had some good chemistry with Lowry, but looks like it won't happen. Von needs to worry about himself and make as much dollars as possible. Playing some minutes with Nash may help him even more.
I also agree with this, Von should do whatever is in his own best interests, and playing with a hall of fame PG like Nash will only help him get better....and when he is dropping 15+ PPG his next contract will be a lot bigger than this one. Good for him....I am just saddened that he couldn't develop here in Houston and we would rather go for young players that may never even sniff an NBA court over a proven scoring athletic SG like Von. But...that is $$$$ball for you. DD
Wafer would be our 3rd highest (healthy) returning scorer from last season, and he's younger than the top 2, Scola and Brooks. We can't pay him something close to what those two get? Bear in mind how much weaker we are at SG than PG or PF.
He averaged 16.5 in Houston as a starter with Yao crowding the paint......and shot over 50%...... He is a good player...and would fit perfectly on this new up tempo team. Sigh......oh wait, he got tossed in a playoff game for wanting to play...we can't have that.....I mean a guy who WANTS TO PLAY.....how dare he? DD
U know i'm riding shotgun with you on this. Most people form opinions on life experiences. I think chemistry is overrated. I think winning breeds chemistry, but you don't have to like the guy your playing with, just respect his game. In college, we had 2 guys sticking each others gals and having fights, but on the court, they were great together. Shaq and Kobe, Bird and Mchale, Barkley and Clyde are examples of guys that didn't get along but played well together. Just like the mention of kids, young players are the same way. People can bring up how wafer bounced around, but ariza is on his 4th team in that same 5 yr period. Von is the kinda guy this team has been looking for and I think the rockets are making a huge mistake thinking taylor and chase will replace what he do. Not to mention, wafer is only a yr or so older but has real time on court production.
Morey offered him a league minimum contract to stay though, so he obviously places no or very little value in all of the points you're bringing up in keeping Wafer. It's not a question of us being cheap either, we've already bought 2 second round picks this past draft and David Anderson from the Hawks. I doubt Morey sees White or Taylor as immediate substitutes, but I could be wrong. The most I would have offered Wafer would be 3 years/$6M, and Morey would have considered that grossly overpaying... Morey knows more about the business side of basketball than me for sure, so I trust in him to make the Rockets both very competitive and financially stable.
Indeed. Just wait for nba.com to confirm this and we have to look forward to semi-rebuild this team. gotta say it IN MOREY I TRUST
Again...care to make a signature wager, with the wager decided by a BBS poll? Wafer won't see 15ppg. He probably won't even see 12ppg. That said I will agree with one, modified thing you said: Good for him....I am just saddened that he couldn't develop here in Houston and we would rather go for young players that may never even sniff an NBA court over a scoring athletic SG like Von.
Why the hell was this guy not our first priority? You want to get young? 23 years old. You want to run? That's all this kid does. He shoots a high percentage and gives you 10ppg in 20mpg. Ariza gets 9ppg in 22ppg and the Rockets gave him double of what the bbs thinks Von is worth. Honestly I think Von is worth at least the MLE.
WOW i am so glad you are not anywhere near a nba front office you can always find players who can run and score..heck thats the most common skill set amonst most NBA players. there are two sides to the court not just scoring. Von isnt even 1/2 the complete player Ariza is. personally I dont care that Von is gone I would rather see Taylor and Budinger devlop in adelman's system next year
DD, you are getting into the straw man argument phase of your meltdown. Wafer's behavior in the playoffs is only one factor that might keep the Rockets from retaining him. Surely you can see the roster deficiencies in the front court. I would say this in regards to Wafer's maturity- if Rick Adelman, the ultimate player's coach calls you out publicly, then it was probably more than a single incident.
