not true i never said he did not get an offer from the rox or the nba, the fact remains he was not worth the money that he or alot of other people thought he was worth. also you go overseas to play its a step back when u have played in the nba! josh childress bad example man, he is still not back with the nba after 1 yr, im sure he thought i will play one year and go back to the nba and get paid. wrong. the fact remains that von had his supporters and i am not one of them, if that makes me ignorant oh well i've been called alot worse

If this is true then it's probably the best case scenario for all parties involved. Wafer makes a lot more money in Europe than he would have in the NBA. If things work out, he can come back in a year or two in a better free agent market. The Rockets already have his replacements lined up and doesn't have to worry about seller's remorse if Wafer plays well for another NBA team. The only thing I'd be concerned about from Wafer's point of view is that Europe is a much different brand of basketball than the NBA, and it's a real question whether he can translate his game overseas.
No, sorry, I thought you were implying that the Rockets didn't have any interest, if I read it wrong, my bad. And it is not a step back if you are playing for more $$$$... DD
Money is money, fans are fans, pro ball is pro ball, all the best to him. Somehow I think within 2 years we'll see a report how he got into it with a coach or teammate, him trying to hit a ref, skipping out on practices. A la Bonzi and Snyder in China, the players we didnt want to believe were knuckleheads or crazy but ended up showing they indeed were. Or we'll see he "No Longer Hates Rick Adelman's Lies" or something. Would be interesting. Going by board response to Bleacher Report, I think its slowly turning into the Hoopsworld of ALL sports. They have their heart in the right place but are still seen as a bit amateur.
Yup... good for him, and no he is not worth that kind of money in the NBA. I think he may be back again in a year. Also, well played by Morey not to cave to the mohawked mans money demands.
if thats true, ask any basketball player where they would rather play? europe make more money or less money and play in the nba, i would choose the latter.
I don't blame Morey, but Von leaving weakens the team some....and we lose another asset like Artest for nothing. DD
Jason, In all honesty, if you were offered $1 million to play in the NBA or $3.8 million to play in Europe what would you do? I would take the higher $$$$...your career is only so long and you could blow a knee at any moment. Von is making the proper career decision, which could set him up for life.... Good move, IMO. DD
I'm not 100% on this, but one other thing to realize is that if he is out of the us for a continuous period of time (300 days?), his income will be foreign earned income and he won't have to pay US taxes.
I am sure the IRS will find a way to take its cut. You can make the most money in the NBA. Apparently all these guys who left the NBA to play overseas are seeing it isn't that great out there.
I'm interested to see if during the year we here about him getting benched for several games due to not being able to control his attitude.
I bet he starts and dominates over there, that will go a long way to him keeping his attitude in check
Check out how poorly Childress and Pargo played in the Greek League. Wafer will certainly not dominate that league. Not even close.
Didn't we offer VW something like 2 years-3.5m? That contract's worth more than twice that, so you can hardly blame him. Never know when it's gonna end, and this would be by far his biggest payday, and you gotta take it while you can. I would've took the most money in his situation as well, and I wish Von nothing but the best. Anyone know how the accomodations, per diem, etc... works over there? Better or worse than the NBA?
