More playing time will give him confidence. 7-17 is solid for a SG. It's better than what McGrady was giving us lately. If we can count on wafer to play consistently I don't see the problem with benchin McGrady until he recovers from injury or whatever the hell his problem is
Awesome game by Wafer. I love how after he made that crucial fastbreak bucket and came down with a cramped leg, he still managed to run down to the other end of the court. I loved even more how Rafer took up the responsibility for Wafer by guarding Joe Johnson on that possession, and then Rafer ended up stealing the ball from him. This game was all heart.
Yeah coulda put it more positively. Sometimes you gotta ignore trying to temper the "jock riders". Thats pretty good for a 1st time start. Its .413 from the field and .429 from 3pt. His season avgs are .434 and .406, pretty much what you want. On THIS TEAM, thats excellent work. McGrady, Artest, Alston, Head, Barry, and Hayes are ALL under 40% from the field. On percentages alone in limited minutes, Wafer might be the best perimeter scorer on the team now. Another stat: Wafer played 40 minutes for the 1st time since college. That's 8.35% of his NBA CAREER minutes total.
He started last game and played well. I'll admit I didn't think he would even make the team, much less get any playing time, but he has been giving all effort and making some good plays. He needs to be in the rotation ahead of Luther and maybe Barry.
His positives far outweigh his negatives at this point. He's still young and inexperienced and could improve.
he played good d on pierce when it counted. I really think Von will get better d he just needs learn his roll. Von will be a part of the rotation next year you can bet on it.
If he plays the type of defense that he played in the 4th vs Pierce combined with his athletism and shooting he could be a very good player for years.
THE VONHAWK STRIKES AGAIN! hopefully somebody more creative can come up with a better nickname for Von Wafer that somehow incorporates his name, his mohawk, and his deadly accurate shooting.
Rockets are better with Von starting at the 2 guard, I would start him and Battier when he gets back and rest TMac until he is right to join in the right way. DD
The real question is Where did Von Wafer come from? How did he end up in our pre-season roster, who gave him the chance, how did we get him on our roster? Wafer has been with a few other teams in the past, but HOW did we end up with him? We're basically pulling off an Anthony Morrow of the Golden States, except Wafer can do much more than just shoot.
Slow down. Wafer was badass tonight, but there will be plenty of games where he'll be a no-show. He's the kind of guy that great teams have--the role player that can explode on you when you least expect it, but not consistent night in and night out.
