But the idea is to get him th ball in position to finish the play. Not yoyo out front a la Ariza this season. To Trevor's credit though I think he hit his first "thinkabout it and pump fake" 3 pointer of the year. Shame he takes about 2 or 3 of those per game. And if the play breaks down, Wafer can take the ball at the top of the key and get by his man to break down the defense. Sure his distributing skills are low, but at least he has a solid chance of making the basket or getting fouled. Oh, and he can hit the step back jumper too, which is also a weakness of Trevor's game.
Bud plays almost nothing but small forward and has played some power forward but absolutely no shooting guard this season. Ariza plays most of his minutes at Shooting guard but when he goes out the Rockets turn to Battier and Lowry primarily for the remainder of minutes at shooting guard. With Von we would have a prototypical sized ultra athletic shooting guard that can score. Battier and Lowery would likely loose the most minutes. Von played almost all of his minutes at shooting guard in his stint with Houston last year with some at small forward. I'm guessing Ariza would loose some as well but likely not much.
Don't follow how you figure Bud isn't playing the 2. Any lineup featuring Lowry, Bud, and Battier in the 1/2/3 spots means Chase is at the 2. Granted he mostly plays the 3 with Brooks at the 2, but Chase is quick enough to play the 2 with Battier or Ariza at the 3. Really though its interchangable and Ariza/Battier would guard Kobe against the Lakers or Lebron against the Cavs in that scenario.
He gets Buds minutes. Von will give us a guy with 'scoring mentality' off the bench. I still think we'll see the same ol' starting lineup; but it gives Adelman a 'genuine 2' that he can bring on at the 6 minute mark to change the pace somewhat. Von will thrive in a run offence, makes quick decisions (shoot or drive) and gets to the hoop well. Hopefully it'll be good for Budinger to sit and watch the rest of this season - a few hot games aside he has REALLY struggled with his shot (join the Rockets GF club!) and I think it'd do him the world of good to keep observing and learning now that he's had a taste. Pairing Ariza with Wafer will probably help Ariza's game immensely - suddenly there's a guy who can make his own shot and will end up being assigned the 'harder defender' - Ariza can work to space and thrive off the ball a little more. Wafer certainly isn't a 'top level NBA talent' or anything - but he's the kind of guy who can generate some offense - if we had to choose one player or other, I'd take Ariza every day, offense isn't everything (just something this team needs right now) - luckily it looks like we might not have to choose!
I seriously doubt it'll work well. If you think it's bad that Ariza is complaining about not getting the ball back even now, wait till you see him playing with Von The Blackhole Wafer...
Yeah - but what I'm saying is that the ball won't get thrown to Von everytime down the court. Only when he's in a 'good enough' position to score. Having someone more aggressive offensively than Battier (or even Budinger) can only help Ariza.
I sure hope so(don't want 'em in the first place). Granger is out of our league. The rest of them are mediocre.
this is truly a horrible post. I'm overseas now and haven't watched his two games back, but i've seen every other game this season and Buddinger deserves playing time. He hasn't just had a few good shooting games. He's played within the offense, ran the floor on the break, been suprisingly good on the defensive side, spaced the floor well, rebounded and passed well. you really don't want a guy like that sitting. but hey, you seem to know what your talking about, or......
When Bud and Battier is in the line up together Battier plays the 2 not Bud. Chase has not logged one single minute at the 2 this season, but don't take my word for it: http://www.82games.com/0910/09HOU7.HTM
Don't see it since Von played primarily at the 2 with limited minutes at the 3 while Chase plays almost exclusively at the 3. Minutes would likely come from Lowry and Battier since they currently play the 2 spot with Ariza out of the game.
After reading some of Von's twitter...I'm really starting to worry about him (mentally). I just don't want anymore drama...
Crash, they don't list guys as 2 or 3 when they come into the game per se. Bud has been playing the 2 all season and is a 2 more so than any player on our team except Taylor. By most accounts, the 2/3 is classified as a wing position especially when 2 guys are similar is size and such. The showtime lakers had scott and worthy on the wings and clearly scott was the 2. When the rox had max and horry starting, the 6'10 horry was the 3. When the rox had clyde and mario starting, who was the 2 then? Thats my point is when 2 guys are the same size, they're really interchangeable wings, but when prince is 6'9 and hamilton 6'6, its clear who the 2 and 3 is.
So, do you see Von as insurance for if/when Bud is included in a McG deal to get what DM the GM (really) wants?
That's just not accurate. Per your logic Scola plays Center because he is taller than Chuck? If Chase and Battier are in the game there is no difference between the 2 and 3 but when Taylor is in the game their is a discernible difference because of his height? When TMac and Battier are in the game together TMac is clearly the 2 not Battier but that difference can not be spotted or recorded with Chase? If you don't believe 82games.com then there is certainly nothing I can do to persuade you.
