Tony Allen is a great defender and all, but it's not like he was in their starting 5 or closing 5. And that Big Baby for Rudy and Camby trade...I don't get it from Portland's perspective...salary relief from Sheed's expiring?
Camby is superfluous with a healthy Oden and Pryzbilla and yes, they would like the cap relief. Plus Sheed's contract becomes an asset at the trade deadline.
Its not his fault that Von was kicked out by several teams, most relevantly by a Euro team after half a season.
To an earlier comment: The Celtics can't give up Big Baby. It's not a matter of talent level, but roster depth. KG and J. O'Neal need limited minutes, and all they have behind them right now is Semih Erden. Also I read that the potential deal is Rudy and Pryzbilla (not Camby) for Rasheed's expiring contract, Tony Gaffney's contract, and draft pick(s). It could be a two way deal, but more likely part of a three way with Portland receiving a point guard from New Orleans, likely Collison.
i cant wait to see what happens when *he* demands the ball from garnett or pierce. that boy will get whooped
He was an NBA scorer; I wouldn't say he was an "NBA player". He gave little effort on defense, and he showed no side of basketball IQ or court awareness. However, sometimes a guy off the bench needs to be like Wafer. Wafer brought energy and scoring, but i never see him being a starting shooting guard in this league.
Tony Allen really is a great defender, and the Celtics have not and probably cannot replace that. But he's been a mixed bag on offense, sometimes helping the Celtics, but just as often helping the other team. When he stays healthy and gets consistent minutes, he gets into a good rhythm (but he often gets injured). The problem with Tony in Memphis, is, they also have good players in front of him. If Boston can replace his minutes with a guy who can consistently score, overall they won't be hurt.
lol i don't hate von at all. I just wish we could've kept re-signing him to 1 year deals. In that sense, he'd always be hungry to be that offensive addition for 20 minutes off the bench. I think Boston got a very solid piece. Another dimension.
He made a bad decision going to Europe because the style of play is way different there and he didn't adapt to it. But he has shown he can contribute to an NBA team and I think he will continue to do that with the Celtics this season.
Morey tried to sign him to a one year deal, or a smallish 2 year deal, but Von got a bigger offer. And once we had Chase, who is a lot better than Von, he was no longer needed. DD
3 seconds left, Celtics are down by 2, game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat. Von Wafer catches the ball and spots up for 3, He hits it and the Celtics are going to the NBA finals to play the Houston Rockets! What....? I can dream.
Doc has an option when allen sux and during the regular season, he can keep the minutes down of the vets.
I would say a pretty dangerous scoring backcourt paired with Nate Robinson. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mUMNyrah9vA&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mUMNyrah9vA&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Not really. Von may be a better shooter but he isn't as good as Tony. Tony Allen is far more superior defender than Von. Tony Allen really disrupted Kobe in the NBA Finals so the Celtics are going to miss that big time. Von will probably be a bench warmer or he may be the 8th to 10th guy off the bench.
