Coaching has continued to be my issue with this team since Adelman took over last season. It was obvious to most fans Hayes shouldn't have been starting last season, but it took him half the season to realize this. It also took a good chunk of time for him to realize Mike James didn't fit into what he was trying to do. Then it took forever for him to see that Landry could contribute. Now he is finally starting to understand "I don't have to put all my starters back in at the end of every game", and "maybe Wafer can contribute to the team".

I hope sooner or later he realizes that Ron plays better off Yao and not as a focal point of the motion offense. Motion only works if the ball moves and Ron kills the second unit. His mix of players on the court together doesn't work and the times he chooses to rotate them in and out are just plain bad.

DD, u can talk about offense, flow and motion, but until they can show they can put out fires, it doesn't matter. This will never be a great offensive team, but they could be more efficient. They are giving up 45% shooting which is way to high. If this team was giving up 90ppg and 43% shooting like they did earlier in the season, we wouldn't have these conversations.

When are we going to get off this offensive fit/non fit thing and recognize the true problems. 2 pf's who struggle against the same 4's. 2 centers that struggle against the same types. Neither centers nor pf's can play together. The pf's doesn't compliment the best center in the league. I can agree about moving artest, but scola or landry has to go.

I don't think Scola or Landry will go. Didn't we try Juwan Howard and Stromile Swift at the 4 to compliment Yao? We even tried Cato. I actually liked Cato complimenting Yao.

What we need is perimeter shooters who can hit jumpers, Peja, Bibby, etc

this has been mention quite a bit, no? but for this it means rebuilding around yao which hasnt happened yet.

tmac and rafer arent three point shooters. Battier? close but no cigar. Barry? ok one move but lacks the defense but good sense of offensive movement to replace that.

we need 3 point shooters from 1 to 4, yes four, yes pf. that charlie villahuave or whatever his name is I was so down with. was doing poorly when the talk came up now look at him, tisk tisk.

    Leeb,

You and I agree a lot, but it is not the PF's that are the problem on this team, it is the perimeter players.

Both of our PFs are shooting ABOVE 50%.....defensively they may not be shot blockers, but that is ok....

The problem lies with Rafer, Tmac and Artest...they take the majority of the shots, and all three of them get burned on the perimeter....

Even Battier has had issues this year keeping his man in front of him.....

I love Scola and Landry, but I'd love to trade one of them for Tyrus Thomas or Noah from the Bulls.

Scola and Landry are a replication of the same player. They both do the same thing and I think either would be a great fit for what the Bulls lack. The Bulls have always lacked a guy who can be an efficient scorer in the post. Scola or Landry could provide that to them and be a good addition next to Rose and Deng.

For the Rockets, I'd love to add a shot blocker next to Yao. A guy who can protect the paint and keep You out of foul trouble. I think Thomas or Noah could do that and be a nice compliment to Scola or Landry.

    Ok,

PF is a position of STRENGTH on this team, we have 2 decent to good PFs.....why on God's green earth would you want to weaken a position of strength?

We have one glaring weakness....ONE....in the starting lineup.....and it is at PG.

Fix that, and then get some better shooters/finishers and this team takes off.

Sometimes changing one small component reaps huge rewards.

Hinrich would do that here, no doubt in my mind.

I remember Battier was able post up a couple of times last season. This season it seems as though he just prefers to troll the perimeter all game.

Question: would you prefer Barry to get more minutes since he is generally a better shooter than Alston and Artest? Although his fg% may be lower due to a slow start this season, he did start to shoot better after he came back from his thumb injury.

There u go bringing offense into the equation. Landry, hayes, deke, and scola are part of the problems because scolandry are terrible positional defender and defenders in general, hayes is terrible offensively and small, deke is deke is deke. Thorpe wasn't a shot blocker, but he was a great position defender and allowed the rox to single cover mailman/barkley types, but we had the human eraser. With Yao on the court, you need either camby type or horry type at the 4. If they contain gasol and warrick, they win the game. Warrick was too atheletic and Gasol/Darko were too big. If they can't contain those 3, how can they contain alridge, odom, and guy like that?

Stephen Jackson is one of the best shooters in the league but his shot selection can be really bad at times. I think Artest is similar to Jackson. Both guys are very emotional and competitive and sometimes try to do too much.

    Two weeks ago
Our offensive into smooth, very tough defense
Why do we need to change
Rather than the courage of Orlando in 2004

From an offensive perspective it is a position of strength. From a defensive perspective it is a position of weakness. We have offense at the position. We don't need Scola AND Landry to have offense at the position. But the game is more then offense and we need guys that can compliment Yao on both ends of the court if he is the player you are going to build around. Thomas can hit the 15 footer and I believe he would be able to excel offensively playing next to a guy like Yao who demands so much attention. Think of Amare next to Yao but to a lesser degree.

    Brooks has been the answer.

When Brooks was playing for more than 30 minutes, our record is 8:1, the only loss came from the ugly Spurs game. The team was also shooting very well.

It is just so hard for Brooks to get his magic minutes.

If you can't score, you can't win.....simple math.

You can get by with a decent defense if you can score the ball, being able to do that puts pressure on the other team to keep up....

And, read the thread title, it is ABOUT offense...

You may be right, and in that Spurs game we were up 10 when Tmac came in and took over.

barry can't run point because he has no handles. he can dribble the ball down the court but as soon as there's pressure, he has to pass the ball. unlike brooks, alston or TMac who can dribble their way out of it. he can find an open man, but if no one is open and he's on iso, he can't beat his man to the basket or dribble his way out. you see him stop when there's any pressure on him. that's why he's not a very good point.
