I'm going to take my wife to NYC 12/17 - 12/25. It will be the first time for both of us. We'll be staying at the Yotel, which is less than a mile from Time Square. I plan on getting transit passes.

Just hoping for any advice/recommendations on things to do, places to eat, discounts available, etc.

I'm happy for both of you! My family and I have gone several times during the Christmas holidays and we totally enjoy the vibe during that time of year! I won't waste my time suggesting places or things for you to do, I think you know by now what tourist attractions you want to see. The only thing I can offer you is a link to TKTS, you can save a pretty penny on Broadway shows as long as you're not set on only one, as the tickets are sold as first come first serve!

We haven't made up our minds yet where we're going this year, but it's starting to lean towards us going there again, if we do we'll probably be there this year from the 23-2!

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN BREH!

I would recommend to top of rock. It gives a pretty nice view of the city.

i think top of the rock is a good suggestion. less of a line then empire building and the views are equal.

if you are not used to how subways work in cities i would would read up on that a little. it could save you a few headaches and time.

I suggest you to see the Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Center. Go up to the rockefeller observation is fun, but if you are going to Empire State building already, that may be redundant.

Go see the Rockettes at Radio City. Go to Macys at Herald Square to see the holidays windows display.

    Hopefully you are into Christmas...

I personally prefer the TOTR! I think you get a better view of Central park since its roughly 15blocks closer to the Park.
Regardless, if it's your first Time in NY, I think you'll enjoy either one of them, both are pretty high up and offer great views...:)

Word on the street says, cat calls are abundant in NYC. Beware of all the "hello's", I mean, harassment.

I agree. Top of the rock is much better than going to Empire State bldg.

the one thing is, you can take a photo at the top of the rock with Empire state as your background. but if you go to Empire state, you can't do that.

if you go both, it's the same view you'll see.

Don't waste all your time trying to figure out subway. Save some money so you can hop in a taxi every now and then.

Thanks, especially for the Pizza & Broadway recommendation.

Thanks. Broadway is something definitely on the list. Broadway, Statue of Liberty, Time Square, 9/11 Memorial, & Central Park are what I think we will definitely do. We'll do Top of the Rock or Empire State Building. I think we'll also visit NYSE and at least a couple of museums.

Go to Pepolino in TriBeCa for Italian. It's not at all touristy and the food is excellent. Be sure to order the ricotta cheesecake for dessert. I'm usually not a dessert person at all, but their ricotta cheesecake in next level.
