I'd like to chime in to say that if you go up Trail Ridge drive to the Continental Divide, it's a short drive down the other side to Grand Lake city. It's a fun place to have lunch then return early afternoon. And I agree with Disciple of RP, if you have the time, return or arrive that back way from Trail Ridge to I-70 and Winter Park. It's a better drive than the east slope of the Front Range. OP, As MoonDogg says, Rocky Mountain National Park is Federal land. Pot is not legal. I don't think many of the uptight out-of-staters understand that too well. But they could tattle on you to a ranger.
