Yes, I did, that is why I did the post for VY, and Cowboys. Of course, I have not time to read all posters on this thread, which is not big deal for any argument.
I am in Austin and love all Houston sports and athletes from the city I grew up in. The Boys dominate NFL media attention and will be shown over Texans when they air on same network.
WRONG If you cant be bothered to read the responses, dont expect anyone to answer you. My time is just as valuable as yours, but difference is, Im not lazy
There will always be trolls on both sides but I think it's easier to keep pro VY/Titans comments out of the "Houston Pro Sports" than it's to keep anti-VY comments out of Titans threads in the "BBS Hangout." The comments will be blatant and obvious in the former and blend in the latter...if that makes sense.
Jeez 2K, he must be someone's hero since he gets to throw out the ball at Astros Games and get standing ovations at Rocket games and represent TNT as the hometown host when All star game was in Houston. Somebody in Houston must like the guy. Its not like they have Bobby Knight or Coach Fran throw out pitches in Houston. Why does he have so many fans in Houston? I guess all those people from Nashville moved to Houston.
That's ridiculous. Your love for the hometown hero may be greater than the hate of a divisional rival that used to be the team in our home town but it isn't like that for everyone. I never went to college. I never went to UT or A&M or any other school. I don't follow college sports so I don't love or hate any college or team. I sure as hell grew up an Oiler fan and bled Columbia Blue. I cried when we lost in Buffalo and I still hate John Elway to this day. My heart hurt for a long time when the Oilers went to Tennessee and I told my wife last night that it was like losing a family member. It sucked. And it was Bud Adams fault so **** him and **** his team. Aren't you like 20 or 22? Do you even remember the Oilers? Do you remember the Luv Ya Blue teams or the Warren Moon years? Do you remember the heroes that we used to have here in Houston that would battle in the House of Pain? I don't think you comprehend what it was like for people to grow up with the Oilers and to lose them. I think your fascination with UT and VY has blinded you to what the majority of Houstonians and former Oiler fans went through when the Oilers left so your UT garbage is really annoying and condescending. For some people it is really sweet to have a team in Houston again. Are they the best? Absolutely not but our owner isn't a perennial jackass and he cares about our town and seems to care about winning. That's pretty damn good to me and while they have been horrible to watch the last couple of years, they seemed to have turned the corner. I like being able to follow a team that has Houston on it's jersey. It was exciting as all hell to watch that game yesterday. I jumped up and down and yelled and screamed. It was a whole lot of fun. Fun that I haven't been able to have since Bud took the team I would have bled for away.
Yeah I remember the Oilers, I remember Buffalo, Denver Elway 4th and a mile, I remember stagerlee and Pinkets previews. Ok, so you don't like me Baiter, lets say I never posted crap about Vince young. Doesn't change a damn thing about how many Titan fans there are in Houston and how many Vince Young fans are in Houston. Was it a majority of Oiler fans that were wearing the Titan colors last year in Reliant? Explain please and pretend its not me and my superior posts that annoy you.
Been since I was 3 or 4. In the Earl Campbell (probably my 1st poster and jersey)/LUV YA BLUE days I would have probably pulled for the Oilers over the Boys in the Superbowl. Also when I lived in Houston from 02-07 (the main time I lived within a pro sports city) I pulled for all Houston franchises (pre-Texans of course). Outside of that, which came close to happening if not for the Steelers—my all time puke team in any sport (long ago passed the Celtics), I root and have always rooted for the Boys. In football I'll root for Boys and Longhorns above all else, and secondarily LSU, WVU, Texans (still have an affinity and relatives in the City even if no real connection with anything Texan other than a cool T-shirt and soft football my son has from his uncles), Titans, Raiders, Wildcats, Suns, Dbacks, etc, for various reasons. I even rooted for the Aggies against Fresno and wasn’t that upset when they outworked and out-hustled the Longhorns last year, and with an Aggie spouse and being snuck into Bonfire I have softened on them over the years despite recognizing some creepiness there Also, had the Texans and VY combined, that would have been a team to maybe surpass the Boys for me, didn’t happen. I feel for those who lived in that City and were crushed when that didn’t happen, and don’t have my convenience/distance to get over it --it was pretty obvious to me for football reasons (state of Texans offensive playmaking ability + availability of this special athlete at footballs most important position) it should have happened. But it didn’t and is done with, I hope for the Texans and VY the individual both do well, so long as it isn’t at the expense of the Boys. I see it no different than rooting for Clyde the Glide as a Blazer when he wasn’t playing the Rockets, or rooting for Mo Malone or Hakeem later places. Thus my allegiances are public. I’ll also point out I used to like the Spurs some (early 80s maybe). Not as much as the Rockets, but probably next with 6ers (Mo, Dr J. etc). You know the Hemisphere days with white towels, lots of folks wearing black, and a load crazy non-family atmosphere around a hustling bad ass team. But beginning in the totally banal and self-righteous Little Mermaid Era through now the Spurs have climbed pretty high on my puke team. The combination of success plus goody too shoes self-righteous + a fan base who sounds like they belong in WNBA arenas (screeching girls) and who can barely master a 3 syllable cheer (Go Spurs Co.; Woe Spurs Go; something like that) is just too much for me. More than you probably wanted, but there it is.
Ok Baiter, tell me WHY YOU THINK there were so many VY fans there last year at Reliant? Is it because TINMAN wrote an arrogant condescending article about UT fans and Titan fans? look i feel your pain, but face reality on the VY issue, he has plenty of freaking fans in HOUSTON. Sorry if I pissed you off, I'm just trying to explain it. I didn't write this. its from the Houston Chronicle from last year: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2006_4246319 Vandermeer saw it coming, he said. While driving to Reliant Stadium on Sunday morning, he said he counted two dozen fans wearing Young's No. 10 University of Texas or Titans jerseys. "I saw fathers with kids (wearing Young apparel) and thought, `This is not good. This is really not good,' " Vandermeer said. Gallery Furniture owner Jim McIngvale said that unlike other Sundays, his store was deserted during the game, which he said reflects the regard in which Young is held by average Houstonians. "Think of the joy and the excitement he could have brought the whole city (had the Texans drafted him)," McIngvale said. "My advertising agent stopped to have a tire fixed and started talking with the tire changer about Vince. Then the owner of the store chimed in. All races, all colors, and they're all talking about Vince. He could have brought the whole city together."
That nothing to do with the fact that most of those who don't root for VY don't do so because of who he plays for, not who he played for in college. Most of us who don't root for him don't because he plays for a division rival that used to be our team. There are thousands upon thousands of Houston football fans who hate Bud Adams for moving the Oilers and will never root for him, regardless of who is on the Titans' roster. Add the fact that they play in the same division as the Texans. Seriously, please tell me you understand that just a teeny tiny little bit.
dude, i'm not trying to explain why you don't like vince young. I'm trying to explain why people LIKE VINCE YOUNG and why he has many fans in Houston. Can you explain that one? why does he have so many fans? seriously give me a logical answer. Why does he have so many fans in Houston? oh number came out on top jersey sales in the NFL, Vince Young is #5. I don't think its just people in Nashville buying it. I'm sure Houstonians are buying his jersey. Why? I recognize that you hate the Titans and others do too, fine. Why #5 in jersey sales? The Titans uniform isn't very cool looking.
And say for an instant Akeem kept Charles from dunking that last ball and Houston got the NC and the Rockets, upon winning the 1st pick, selected Sam Bowie because they thought he would be a more natural pwoer forward next to Sampson, and "H"akeem went on to Portland. Do you not think many Houstonians would have taken their allegiance to Portland, or at least have a split allegience (rooted for Portland unless they played the Rockets--heck, I did because of Clyde). I recognize the Oilers leaving is an extra dimension (though some fault the City more than Butt Adams), it wasn't like the Texans organization wasn't in control of this recent thing, heck this player was probably the only football player to ever publicly lobby to play for that franchise. He wanted the opportunity and burden to lead a team that didn't look too good simply because it was his home town team. There are a lot of dimensions to this thing.
thanks Scar for showing some logic out of this. Yeah, there are plenty of unlikeable owners in the NFL, they still get their stadium. Yeah, if the CITY did build a stadium.. does NOT CHANGE that BUD ADAMS is a jerk, but it does keep the Oilers in town. Vince always give great publicity to the city of Houston even though he doesn't play there. I personally he should stop it since people obviously don't appreciate it. Its not like he's dogging the Texans either. He was the first person to tell people in HOUSTON to QUIT HATING on MARIO WILLIAMS.
Great, we understand why some people like him. We don't need you to tell us why people like him because we get it. That isn't going to change the minds of real Houston fans that hate the Titans and Bud Adams. If Jesus Christ himself said that the only way to get into Heaven was to like the Tennessee Titans, I would gladly burn in hell for all of eternity and punch my own ticket south.
baiter, i enjoy your posts too. i'm just trying to explain stuff with facts plus a little extra spice to make it less boring. people need to face reality that as long as VY is on the Titans, you'll see a bunch of them at Reliant stadium. my NFL Houston fandom ended when the Oilers left. Actually, I enjoyed being just a casual fan. its fun just watching the individual talent in the league. Sure I know you hate Elway, but you have to respect him for what he did and you should be happy he finally won something. I got tired of the Broncos getting whipped by the NFC. you have to be one awesome player to escape 4 and million to beat the Oilers. You have to respect that the Oilers with an awesome buddy ryan defense lost to Joe Montana, A straight up LEGENDARY PLAYER. They smacked him too, and he still delivered. As a Rockets fan you have to respect the CLUTCHNESS.
o rly? I dont understand all the Vince hate.. Oh yes I do. Lets not hide behind this BS EXCUSE called Bud Adams. its because your haters schools, Texas Tech, A&M, Baylor, etc got beat up like women in Afghanistan by THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS and that your school WILL NEVER WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN YOUR LIFETIME. There I've said it. That's why you'll always hate Vince Young. JEALOUSY. No one would care that Vince is a Titan if he didn't bring UT a national championship. Have your crappy Gig' Ems and throw Tortillas all over the place, cause it's not going to happen. You'll never be the big program of the state and you have Vince Young to blame for it. it's all because we're jealous that he went to UT.
It's funny because I actually lived in Wisconsin when the Broncos played the Packers in the Super Bowl. I'm sure everyone knows how fanatical the Packer fans are but if you ever lived up there you would realize that it is like living in an entire state of tinmans. They are all fanatical and ridiculous so while it pained me to cheer for John Elway, I actually did. Only because it made Packer fans cry. That doesn't mean that I don't hate him. I guess I only hate him slightly less than Packer fans.
