This reads exactly as it did for him here. http://tam.scout.com/2/698268.html There will be a good portion of Carolina fans that will pin the blame this week on Carr -- and deservedly so. He looks scared in the pocket and seems to be struggling with reading defenses. Nor does he seem to inspire a lot of confidence in his offensive teammates. It almost seems a foregone conclusion that when Vinny Testaverde (strained Achilles) is ready to play, he should be the starting quarterback. But Carr is not the only problem. The offensive line the Panthers worked so diligently to improve isn't one that will dominate an opponent by blowing them off the line of scrimmage. And Carolina's running backs are good, but they don't have a LaDainian Tomlinson, a guy who scares the heck out of defenses. The Panthers do have a great receiver in Steve Smith, but unfortunately they have only one. And Carr can't get him the ball because defenses have figured out if you roll a safety over to Smith's side every play you're going to shut him down. In 14 quarters running the Carolina offense, Carr has completed 13 passes to the Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler. "I don't think it's fair to blame everything on David," said fullback Brad Hoover. "I don't think David deserves a lot of criticism. I think we as an offense deserve the criticism. We're all involved. It has nothing to do with one player. It can be turned and looked at however you want to look at it -- Then there's this: http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5im-6aFvQvWrVSotOCek8TulUG-cA The Titans hadn't sacked a quarterback this much since Oct. 9, 2005, in Houston and, yes, it was Carr then as well. "You've got to credit David Carr too because he held the ball," Haynesworth said. "That allowed me to get there a little bit. We're getting pressure on the defensive line, not letting him step up. Three times. I guess I was in the right place at the right time."
My only foray into this thread. But here's something I found amusing. PASSER RATING - SEASON David Carr - 65.7 Vince Young - 61.5
My point is that Rex Grossman was probably the worst quarterback ever on the best team ever. It's going like that for Mr. Young. Which one will show up next week?
And truly, I'm not defending VY...i think he's having a poor season, generally...but he's in his second season. When he came out, even his biggest supporters were saying he'd be a work-in-progress. I never thought he'd win ROY because I didn't think he'd see the field....I thought they'd bring him along like they did McNair. Carr, on the other hand, was a #1 pick that's in his 6th season. And everything looks the same for him...no matter where he goes. With loads of excuses why it's really not his fault that he has zero pocket presence.
I hear ya...I was just comparing the 2nd year VY with the 6th year Carr. I would think that VY will improve at a decent rate and not remain in a stagnant stage, like Carr. Actually, I think Carr has regressed plenty. Watching the game yesterday, its just amazing that the Texans stuck with him for so long. Its a weird feeling...on one hand, Im disappointed that I rooted for him for so long while he killed us and on the other hand, its really exciting watching another team have to endure his total lack of QBing.
Funny story: I was waiting to get a table at a sportsbar for the game of the century, watching Carolina-Tennessee, and struck up a conversation with an older (probably mid-sixties) lady wearing a Julius Peppers jersey. I told her that I was sorry that they were stuck with Carr. She said, "Don't be sorry. He's a great sideline decoration. He doesn't know anything about playing quarterback, but at least he looks good doing it."
"You've got to credit David Carr too because he held the ball," Haynesworth said. "That allowed me to get there a little bit. We're getting pressure on the defensive line, not letting him step up. Three times. I guess I was in the right place at the right time." LOL
No one is saying VY is a great passing QB. But.... -He makes plays for Tenn. -Tenn has much improved since he has started, hard to say he has zero to do with it. (do we need to go over the scoreboard and key plays he has made in many of those wins again?) -Has been BOTH more effective and shows more growth potential than any QB drafed in what about the last 3 years. -Tenn is thrilled to have him slip to him in the draft and MANY if not MOST teams would love to have him. I think you have to pretty biased to discount any of the above.
Carr doesn't know how to make quick reads and does not have the balls to throw the ball to a receiver when he is not super wide open, that's why he holds the ball for twice the amount of time, and I don't care who's offensive line you have, if your qb holds the ball for that long he is going to get sacked.
