On the plus side for Vince, a running QB is always a threat to be injured (though Vick is really more of a pass first, run if there is jack squat nothing else available guy now). Vince and Vick have similar tools so maybe the offense will play to his strength. But he is the backup to the guy who was arguably the best QB in football last year, there is no need to put Vince in for wildcat type plays cause Vick can run them better. Maybe the biggest benefit to VY is a first hand example of a guy who humbled himself, did the work...and is back on top again.
Randall Cunningham, McNabb, Vick, now Vince <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OHzkICG47LU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Should be a fresh start for young where he has time to learn a good QB system. I suspect Young will start at least 2 games so he needs to start studying and be a model player
Yep this is bs. VINCE YOUNG wanted to win a SUPERBOW! before vick or mcnabb, & now he's a backup? WOW. & if these rumors are true, goodell better be investigating jeff fischer's little "blackballing" scheme or whatever he convinced the rest of the league to do. Oh well, chances are vick doesn't survive the entire season anyway. As much improved as he is, and he is better than ever, he still takes too many chances on instinct & athleticism. He might be out late, & with the rest of the eagle's improvements, vy might be set up perfectly to take them all the way. And phillies somewhat racist fans better LAY OFF a little when he does. Mcnabb never got half the respect he deserved there... that's not going to fly with VY.
I don't think it's really the pressure that got to Vince - he did fine in critical situations and was often his best at ends of games. His problem seemed to be (1) an inability to deal with injury and (2) a frustration with getting benched for Kerry Collins every time he made a mistake. On #1, if Vince gets injured and pouts, Philly has nothing to lose really. On #2, I think it's different when you come in expecting to be the backup to a pro-bowler vs. supposed to be the franchise, your team winning whenever they let you play, and then being benched for a 40yr old journeyman. Outside of a starting gig in Minnesota, I think this was the best option for him. Being a backup for a stationary QB would be terrible because the offense wouldn't fit him even if/when he did get to play. But this gives him a year to chill, learn from a QB that had to make the transition he's making (both in terms of playing style and being top-pick-gone-to-backup), and play for a coach that loves taking advantage of QB's strengths. Who knows if he'll pan out at all, but if there was any best route to success, this is probably it.
I think he did get black balled for his blow up, but that might happen if you cuss your coach out in front of the whole team. However you can't tell me he is not better than Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Moore, John Beck and a host of other QBs.
how did VY get black balled when a team signed him almost as soon as he got released? maybe he's just not as good as you think he is. no, that can't be it. VY, not good? BLASPHEMY! he's lucky Philly will take a flyer on him. backing up Vick is probably the best thing for him but if his fragile little mind couldn't accept how the fans in nashville treated him, he's going to go full on psych ward mode when philly fans turn on him.
Exactly. Philly took a flyer on him, otherwise he might be at home this season watching games on the TV. Seemed like nobody else had much interest.
Talent isn't everything. Coaches want someone who is reliable at the most important position in football, not someone who is mentally fragile.
Is it wrong for me to want Mike Vick to get hurt so Vince Young can play? But only to have Vince screw up and have Philly fans boo him. I just want to see how he reacts. If you throw your pads in the stands, expect the pads to come knock you back on your face, along with a beer and a cheese steak.
Yes it is. In the end it's just a game, I hope nobody cheers for another person's injury. Although I think you're being facetious.
When I say "pressure", I don't mean gametime pressure, I mean media and fan scrutiny. Neither of which did he handle well at all in Nashville.
Don't forget the undrafted free agent signing of Houston/Humble native Jerrod Johnson. Kafka has no chance.

Are you honestly telling me matt moore and t jackson are better than VY? With VY the titans were 30-17 without him they were under .500. You can say it was all CJ and defense, except the last two years they had one of worst Ds in football, and KC with the same team had a sub 500 record.
Vince Young [wasn't] drawing much interest around the league Thats what I believe. I don't think he got blackballed. But he certainly didnt help himself in his handling of the situation. Not everyone is Kurt Warner type mature and professional, but Young simply didnt help himself publicly. But he's in the best position he can be now.
