lol...how long have you been on the internets man? it's got nothing to do with josie moran or tinman.
david carr is an illustration of mcnabb's comments in my opinion. some people here defended him through last season. never seen a qb get a leash that long with fans and media. some people say, hey look a harrington. look at grossman, but those guys are terrible. there's nothing to defend about those guys.
On the flipside you have QBs like Peyton who people thought would never win the big one. I don't think many people have defended Grossman or Harrington. I'd say both have been criticized much more than McNabb or Young.
I wouldn't use that ******* as a measuring stick. His words about McNabb were widely criticized and he lost his ESPN job because of it.
but that comparison is ridiculous because there's nothing to defend about them. its the extreme end of the spectrum. a good comparison with mcnabb is maybe carson palmer.
The comments/crit in the media/fans about McNabb needs to be compared to Kelly, Marino, Farve, Elway, Manning, Palmer, Brady, etc, not scrubs or guys who never lived up to their high expectations/draft status. I have never, ever, heard Farve get booed. Farve last two years are far worse in decision making than anything we saw from McNabb since his rookie year (Farve didn't play at all for a couple of years post draft). Jim Kelly, not the player McNabb was and who was on 4 losing superbowl sides--don't remember the same negative press or fan treatment either. I'll give you another. Big Ben has usually been horrible in the playoffs. His teams won a few playoff games and a superbowl in spite of him. Even last year his poor performance was dismissed as a productive of temporary situation (injuries, off the field stuff)--not something inherent to Big Ben that wil stick. McNabb doesn't get the same treatment. Recognize I say this as a Cowboys fan, someone who wants McNabb and the Eagles to lose every time they play. But he has been a great player and great QB in the league who scared the hell out of me because I wanted him and his team to lose. He made a team with major flaws and a team overmatched in lots of other areas consistently get deep in the playoffs because he could make plays out of nothing, somewhat like Elway in his early years. He has gotten a raw deal on a number of things, and yes I think if he was White he would have gotten a couple of extra free passes by a significant portion of the media and fans. Nothing wrong with McNabb pointing this out.
Do you remember how badly the Steelers fans booed Tommy Maddox? I felt horribly for the guy Also, Favre is a legend and Packers fans are nowhere near Philly fans. Philly fans boo EVERYONE. I think if McNabb played in a different city, like a Green Bay or Dallas, he would not get booed.
That could explain some of the fan stuff, but the media is national. Further NY is probably on par if not worse. Eli is another who has gotten a relative free pass compared with how bad he has been in big games and big moments despite a plethora of talent around him. Now my own view it isn't solely because he is White, it also has to do with the fact he is a Manning and people think some day he will turn into Archie if not Peyton (he is a frog prince waiting for the princess's kiss--somethng like that) so somehow he gets more patience and tolerance for mistakes. Ironic, the worst comments about him came from his ex-teamate--the regular NY media/fan base has been alseep on this one.
I wasn't the one who brought up Grossman or Harrington. When McNabb wins a Super Bowl and/or breaks the all-time TD record while playing in every game for the last 13 years or so, Favre would be a good comparision. Not to mention, there were many who criticized Brett Favre's comments in the past couple years with regards to his playing status and words to other teammates/ex-teammates. I really don't recall how much bad press guys like Marino and Kelly had, but I do hear people criticize Marino for never leading his team to the Super Bowl. Eli Manning is criticized all the time. No one acts like Big Ben is some amazing QB or anything, most people understand he wasn't the one that led them to the Super Bowl victory. Maybe McNabb does get more scrutiny, but I don't believe it has anything to do with the color of his skin.
Are you kidding me? Manning had been criticized heavily in the media for never being able to make it to the big game. Eli's been criticized a lot by the media. Do you not recall the Tiki Barber incident from right before the season started?
I don't know. Eli was ripped to shreds by the NY media all last season. Not sure about this year. I'm not debating whether or not black qb's are under more pressure, but I do think that the main reason McNabb gets criticized so often is because he plays for Philly and has been injured and missed time the last 3 seasons
NY doesn't boo Santa Claus or Destiny's Child. i know there's a national media but wasn't it Philly's local paper that was ripping him? Philly is on a whole other level when it comes to criticism.
Again, it isn't just about local fans but national media coverage (though it also probably plays into local fans booing). The media crit was what McNabb seemed to be most highlighting (though it may spill over to fans)--that is why they attacked back and jumped on him for what he said. Also, Phily isn't the only place with lots of nasty fans. McNabb should be a legend in Phily--they have had their best football years because of him. Did they boo Jaws late in his career? Eli isn't getting booed nearly equivalent to his sucky underwhelming (for a guy they traded multiple 1st picks for) performances, Simms got boed early but not later. How about Vinny in NY, Bledsoe in NE. Relative to what McNabb has accomplished he has very much got more crit than comparable players--not just in his home city but nationally. Yes I believe race is a part of it. Not all of it, but a part... Yet what 20% of the population think most of what this guy thinks is the gospel. He expressed something a sizable minority of people/fans/media probably agreed with--that McNabb was overrated because he was Black. Do you think this isn't significant. McNabb wasn't saying all media and fans have a double standard because of his race, he was saying it is out and there, and real. He was saying it does color perceptions, I think he is right and I think it is better to bring it up than pretend it isn't there.
One of those DC dumbasses was wearing a Lakers jersey, and someone in the men's room saw that Santa was wearing Dallas Cowboy briefs
