He didn't really agree with McNabb's comments (most people didn't). Is that what you mean? Jason Campbell didn't seem to either iirc.
the 60 minutes was good. he overcame a growing up being poor, his mom being a drunk/drug user, his dad being in prison etc when steve mcnair took him under his wing as his father figure, that was when it all changed. calling him 'pops' etc. what an inspirational story. i don't know how 'houston football fans' can hate on steve mcnair. he helped a misguided kid from houston and turned him into a hero.
Who hates on Steve McNair? And soldiers in Iraq are heroes, not people who can run fast or throw a football. Get your priorities straight.
i think a kid who is poor and in a bad family situation making to become successful and becoming a mentor to other kids is a good hero. a different kind of hero. i'm not saying YOU are hating on mcnair, but there are haters out there.
um, that would be locked up, dead beat dads who don't pay child support with anger management issues that are heroes, moran.
I have been a little bothered with his comments lately also. the best thing about vince at Texas was that he let his play do the talking
sorry rocketman95, i purposely posted this so i can bait haters like macalu to this thread cause i miss him and his energy. you should know how popular i am here, people just show up cause of me.
I don't think you care who responds to you. You can't be really like this in real life unless you're 12.
i do care who responds. i care about all the clutchfans, the world. that would be cool if all 12 year olds know about 1993-94 Rockets. That would make them better Rocket fans knowing the history.
yeah, too bad no matter how much you hate. Vernon Maxwell will always be a Rocket and his achievements can never change. you can't erase history, just hate on it.
serious about what? I only read this page of posts...so unless you were addressing someone name "moran" (which you might have been doing), I simply corrected the spelling of moron.
blake, he was refering to my praise of josie moran of dancing with the stars. at least if you hate on me, make sure you get the facts right.
I wasn't hating on anybody. I was just correcting a perceived spelling mistake, which I was wrong about. My apologies macalu, though I wasn't insulting him (or you for that matter) I don't read all the threads here so I have no idea about your likes and dislikes (though I do know you are the hdtv guru and you love maxwell)
you do read my threads!! I wonder how many people have bought HDTVs since the cheapskate thread? now people have : 1. No excuse cause all TVs are now basically HDTV 2. No excuse cause HDTVs have gone cheap
well, I started an HDTV thread (about buying one) and you really helped me out. Appreciated it. Can't imagine watching sports without it. If only Comcast would offer more HD channels
refresh me on what you got. oh they will, the battle of cable vs satellite is gonna heat up significantly since DirecTV launched some new satellites (claiming 100 HD channels) all MPEG4 compression (Better than the crappy MPEG2)
Here are some quotes from McNabb... they are hardly inflammatory or degrading to other stars, McNabb was candid and articulate IMO. “There’s not that many African-American quarterbacks, so we have to do a little bit extra,” McNabb tells HBO. “Because the percentage of us playing this position, which people didn’t want us to play … is low, so we do a little extra.....Let me start by saying I love those guys [Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer],” McNabb tells HBO. “But they don’t get criticized as much as we do. They don’t.” IMO of course McNabb is correct, or at least a major kernal of truth. Just because VY was in a heard who didn't grasp it isn't an excuse. Comparing David Carr or Rex Grossman getting booed and critized to McNabb--as some have said to dismiss McNabb's comments-- is just silly. You never heard Bret Farve getting booed, and he went through some years of horrible decision making--much worse than anything McNabb has shown since his rookie year. Jim Kelly and Marino never got booed or really critized either depsite falling short of the super bowl. These are the guys you have to compare to McNabb and his media/fan treatment--not your David Carrs. Even a few years ago the MNF fill in annoucer said McNabb basically was overrated and got free passes because he was black--yet Young is saying this is "others people's fight" and no longer a concern? Supposedly here is what VY said on it.... http://www.titanstracker.com/2007/09/20/vince-young-and-the-donovan-mcnabb-controversy/ “That is his opinion. I really feel like myself, black or white quarterbacks, we all go through something because that is the life of a quarterback You have to be able to handle all the pressure and you have to be able to handle the losses and you have to be able to handle the media saying this about you. If you can’t handle it, then you have to get off that position and go play something else.” http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/09/20/mike-wilbon-calls-vince-young-a-self-absorbed-young-punk/ "Everybody is going to have their opinions and this and that, but that is not my fight to fight. Right now over here with the Tennessee Titans, we are trying to go to the playoffs and we can't worry about all the other mess going on.'' Like I said, I don't think it is a huge deal. I think Wilbon's take is completly exaggerated. But I think it shows Vince Young could be a lot more thoughtfull and educated about this issue--an issue that used to be huge (remember Moon went to Canada 1st because too many NFLers were idiots about his talent and skill--you would think VY as a student of Houston football would no a little about it), and yes I still think there are sterotypes and double standards today--which is what McNabb was pointing out. These things probably even lead to VY being more doubted as a pro prospect than he should of been (of course as Lee Corso said you would have to be a fool not to pick him if you had the first pick)--probably impacted him personally. VY, and Campbell, if he expressed similar thoughts, showed their immaturity and lack of understaning, or if they did have some understanding they simply choose to dodge the issue by being dismissive of McNabb. But again, they are both fairly young after all. So the comments were disappointing, but no I am not going to roast him just on it. The Heisman comments didn't both me. Of course he was the best player in college football his last year--by miles to an objective person, of course he should have got it if it was based on merit and damage on the field over the course of games within a season instead of highlight reel clips and a media machine promoting Bush. Nothing wrong with saying this. Not the first time far greater and more impactfull players missed out on the Heisman for similar reasons (Charles Woodon over Peyton Manning for instance, all those years guys like Weurfull, White and Torreta got theirs).
