Why is it that star UT players usually don't translate very will in the NFL? Ricky Williams, Young, Benson? I'd say it has something to do with the way the used car salesman approach of Mack Brown doesn't teach the proper discipline needed for the NFL.
I talked to John McClain* about this, he said Kubiak wanted Bush, but Casserly talked McNair into drafting Mario *I was in a reporting class at UH with professor McHam and he was good friends with McClain and he'd come once a semester to class to have a talk with McHam's class. Then he took out the newspaper writers to dinner and I asked him about that draft and what went on.
That's total BS. Why would McNair listen to anything that Casserly said even though he was on his way out? I remember reading a Sporting News article that followed the Texans in their decision making process and it said that Kubiak became enamored with Mario after seeing how dominating he was and the potential that he had because of his size and speed.
Don't buy it at all. Don't care if "the General" said it, I just don't buy it. Kubiak was behind that decision 100% and has personally said as much. Casserly was just the whipping boy.
I think Casserly actually had more to do with the pick than people think, or at least would like to think. Mcclain was pretty close with that one IMO. Kubiak doesn't seem to be as involved in player acquisitions as a lot of coaches. Sure, he's there during the draft and definitely has a large say in what goes on, but he leaves it up to Rick Smith and the scouts for the most part. Every time he's asked about a player possibly signing with the team, he knows little about it until the signing is official or very close to a done deal. For instance, he didn't even know what running backs were coming in to workout today. It seems like he decides where the team needs help and what kind of player they need and then trusts Rick and the scouts to go find the right player. So with the Mario pick, maybe he did like Bush but I doubt he was dead-set on who he wanted to pick. I bet McNair had a huge say in the as well considering the state of the franchise at that time.
anybody watching espnnews? there is a scroll at the bottom that reads........ 'titans have asked police for help locating vince young' wow.
I have never seen a single thing that indicates Kubiak wasn't the brains behind the Mario pick. His quotes, McNair's quotes, etc. all said that it was him behind it. Also, The General was on top of this stuff? Wasn't he saying they were going to pick Vince Young?
It's a shame to hear this and I hope its much ado about nothing...I'm sure he's frustrated but he'll be alright...
you're right. signed, Derrick Johnson Aaron Ross Nathan Vasher Micheal Griffen Selvin Young Priest Holmes David Thomas (coming soon) Jamaal Charles Limas Sweed Casey Studdard Jermicheal Finley
you must have never played fantasy football. Ricky Williams was #1 ranked RB til he went Dave Chappelle on the NFL.
I'm not sure who he said they were going to pick. I was going off of a previous poster saying that Kubiak wanted Bush, and I was saying that it could've been that he did want Bush but wasn't dead-set on picking him. All just speculation on my part. I'm just saying Casserly probably had more to do with it than people think...this is mostly based on an the interview Casserly did with Mario last season for NFL.com/NFL network. As for Mcclain, he generally knows what he's talking about. He's closer to the Texans organization than any other media outlet (at least now anyway, not sure about in the previous regime). Anyway, the bottom line is thank the Lord we picked Mario
Steve Young, Titans QB is alive and well....... http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hDkhf-bvXjivHuP_WeaY1-DZPxLgD933CRU83 Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young rolls on the ground after spraining his knee in the fourth quarter of an NFL football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. (AP) — Vince Young is awaiting results of an MRI exam on his sprained left knee Tuesday, hours after the Tennessee Titans sought police help in finding the quarterback the team described as "emotionally down." Young's agent said Tuesday afternoon there was no need for concern because the quarterback was at a friend's house watching football and eating chicken wings. "When people were worried about him, I was on the phone talking to him," agent Major Adams said. "I didn't know there was any confusion about where he was as if he was missing or whatever. He just said, 'Hey, I'm over here watching the game.' ... Then I start getting all these frantic calls." Adams spoke while on his way to learn the test results on Young's knee. Young left his home around 7 p.m. Monday without a phone, prompting the Titans to call Nashville police for help. The team got a message to Young through a friend, and the quarterback met with coach Jeff Fisher and police at team headquarters around 11:30 p.m. Police spokesman Don Aaron said Young drove himself home about 30 minutes later. The story first was reported by WKRN-TV. "Ultimately, it appears the initial concerns about his emotional state were unfounded," Aaron said Tuesday. "But no one actually knew that until he was spoken to face to face." Aaron also said Young had an unloaded handgun in the glovebox of his car. Tennessee law permits unloaded firearms in vehicles as long as no ammunition is present. Young hurt his knee late in Sunday's 17-10 win over Jacksonville and was booed heavily by fans. "Given the totality of the circumstances, the fact that Young had been emotionally down all day Coach Fisher contacted the police department and asked for help in finding him to check on his emotional well-being," Aaron said. The Titans said people close to Young called the team Monday night, concerned about his state of mind when he left his home. "He was located at a friend's house, where we made contact with him. He then came to the practice facility where it was determined that those initial concerns by his friends and family were unfounded, and he returned home without incident," the Titans said in a statement. Young's MRI exam was rescheduled for Tuesday from Monday with no explanation. Fisher said Monday if the injury is a third-degree MCL sprain, Young probably would miss a couple weeks and not be 100 percent for up to four weeks. Veteran Kerry Collins is the only other quarterback on the roster, but the Titans worked out Quinn Gray on Tuesday. The team also was looking at QB Joey Harrington and a handful of receivers, including Glenn Martinez and Chad Jackson
