the second pick he threw was pretty bad, but there were also a lot of drops. kerry stats did look good, but his first pass, the bo scaife turned a five yard te screen into a 45 yard gain. regardless of his or collins' performance, they got to get some better talent at wr.
the 2nd int was horrible, like you said there were a lot of drops but I def saw a lot of overthrows/bad reads as well. should be an interesting couple of weeks for the titans and the rest of the afc with all these injuries
You are soooooo stupid. I wish I had all your locked threads saved as a reference point. Wins are the only things that matter? So all 55 players on the Jets are betting than all 55 players on the Bucs? Vince had 2 INTs, 1 TDs and an awful Com%. Mario had 2 sacks, 1 FF and 6Ts. He got all that before the Steelers just started running the ball bc they were so ahead. When will you admit that Mario Williams is a better and more valuable football player than Vince Young? Yea, in the end that is what matters but that does not prevent you from making evaluative statements about individuals. The Texan's couldn't win because the team as a whole stunk. No debate there.
Um, wow. I like the guy, but this is ridiculous. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080907/COLUMNIST0202/80907012/1027
that's funny, i was watching and they said kerry was about to take the field but they were coming back from commercial. he was really sulking after the interception. i hope this doesn't turn into something bigger.
I wouldn't give up on the Texans just yet. We're only 0-1. Everyone is making it seem like we just went 2-14 again. The fact is we were out-matched and the offense was never able to get into a rhythm. This team still has a chance to do something but it's going to be tough the next couple of weeks.
Hopefully VY will grow up from this. Last season told me loud and clear he doesn't have the dedication necessary to become a good QB in the NFL. Winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 may have gone straight to his head, despite being such a poor passer. Maybe VY can take the next 2-4 weeks to meditate on and ponder his future in the NFL. If he doesn't soon decide that being the best QB he can be is more important to him than anything else, he ain't gonna make it. Reading the article below (thanks to The Cat) gives me even more pause. I never questioned VY's mental toughness before and it's ironic that Kerry Collins makes comments about the "ups and downs" of a young QB. ___________________________ September 7, 2008 Sideline incident raises more concerns about Young Went to a football game on Sunday and a soap opera broke out. Welcome to Titans ’08. If the game is dull, just focus on the sideline. That’s where the real drama unfolds. It took only one game — a victory over Jacksonville, no less — for the season to take a strange turn. This team has issues at quarterback, be it a tight hamstring, a sprained knee, a bruised ego, a bad attitude or all of the above. Frankly, it’s hard to see the Titans taking flight if Vince Young doesn’t get his act together — physically and emotionally. Playing great defense is one thing; having to constantly defend your quarterback is another. By now you know the score: For whatever reason, Young appeared unwilling to take the field midway through the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon following his second interception and a resulting cascade of boos from the fans at LP Field. Eventually, he re-entered the game, only to suffer a knee injury four plays later. His day was done. But the real story was just beginning. We’ll never know exactly what happened. Titans Coach Jeff Fisher immediately shifted into damage control. Young’s teammates were guarded in their answers to questions about the quarterback. As for Young, he was observed in the locker room on crutches more than an hour after game’s end but left without speaking to reporters. Mum’s the word. But there was no hiding the chaos when Young failed to join the rest of the offense on the field with 5:57 remaining and the Titans clinging to a 10-7 lead. As we piece the story together, it appears that Young began to experience some tightness in his hamstring after a short pass to his right was intercepted by Jacksonville defensive end Derrick Harvey. Proper sideline protocol is for the player to notify a trainer about an injury, no matter if it’s a tight hamstring or a severed limb. That way, he can get immediate treatment and the coaches are made aware of the situation and can prepare accordingly. But after throwing the interception and being roundly booed, Young went to the bench and sat down. No medical personnel were summoned. When the defense forced a punt three plays later and the offense returned to the field, Young was AWOL. That’s when things grew frantic. It’s hard to run a play without a quarterback. “I came on the field and 10 wasn’t in the huddle,” said center Kevin Mawae. “I didn’t know what the situation was.” Fisher then made a beeline to Young, standing several yards away. After the game, Fisher recalled that his conversation with Young centered solely on the quarterback’s hamstring. “He said, ‘It’s tight,’ and I said, ‘If it’s tight, we’ll go with Kerry,’ and try to talk him back into it and he felt good,” Fisher said. But considering how animated Fisher appeared as he talked with Young, it’s hard to believe some other matters weren’t discussed. From the outside looking in, Fisher seemed to all but throw Young back onto the field. But it’s no surprise that Fisher soft-pedaled this in the post-game interview. In two seasons, he always has been overly protective of his quarterback. It doesn’t appear things are changing in Year 3. It’s time to get with the program. Young has to grow out of this. Sulking is no longer an option. This is the toughest part of the learning curve for Young. At the University of Texas, he could do no wrong. The NFL is a different matter. Titans safety Michael Griffin, who was Young’s teammate at Texas, gets it. “Hey, fans are going to be fans. Boos are going to happen,” Griffin said. “Everybody has their opinions.” Yes they do. And opinions are beginning to change where Vince Young is concerned. He made believers when he was NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006. Despite some slippage last season, he quarterbacked the Titans to the playoffs. But with a lousy preseason and the ugly residue of the season-opener, Young now has some catching-up to do. His teammates still voice their support in interviews but you can sense some concerns creeping into the locker room. “Part of playing quarterback in this league is the ups and downs,” said Kerry Collins, who finished what Young started. “For a young guy, it’s a hard thing to learn sometimes. It’s not easy. “There are times when you’re going to get booed. There are times when things aren’t going the way you want it to go. You’ve got to fight through it, and I believe he will. It’s just part of the whole process. No quarterback has ever been immune to it.” Sounds like the real drama is just beginning.
Vince hasn't shown any marked improvement since his 1st year. Say what you will about his crappy receivers, but his INTs have looked pretty awful. At times in the preseason he looked pretty clueless. The game isn't coming to him as easily as it did in college, and its clearly frustrating the hell out of him. It takes more than raw athletic ability to be a successful NFL QB. Hopefully VY heals quickly, the light turns on quick, and he turns things around this year. No more careless picks and fumbles.
Lets not talk about Carson Palmer. Dude failed to throw over 100 yds and gave me a whopping 3 pts. as my fantasy qb. I started him over Favre and Cutler. Say hello to the trade block Mr. Palmer.
Because their defense sucks. Put Matt Schaub on the Titans and they make the playoffs last year. The Titans made the playoffs last year because their defense carried them not because Vince Young.
So much for Vince Young being the better passing version of Michael Vick like the media hyped him up to be.
Sheeeeee-eeettt... my Texans could have used my grandma today... but in their defense, no one could have stopped the RUN offense the Steelers had. Anyway, let's talk about this Young injury a bit, shall we? Can you really HEAL from a torn ACL or MCL in 2 weeks? Are you kidding me? He's going to be out more than that. Wait for the MAGICAL MRI. I don't wish harm on anyone else, but I am glad he got booed in that game. The Tucking Fitans won when HE WENT OUT with good defense and Garrard's miscues on the last few possessions.
Man, the titans defense looks pretty formidable yesterday. As much as I hate them, you have to respect Jeff Fisher and that defense. Seriously one of the best defenses in the league. And Fisher is smart enough to know that, with a defense like that, you can beat anybody. That's the way he models his gameplan. I didn't see them beating J-ville but they proved me wrong again. And now that Vince is out, the defense may even be even stronger because they'll spend less time on the field. At least with Vince, you could count on him making dumb mistakes and keeping the other team in the game. All 4 AFC South QB's looked HORRIBLE yesterday.
like clock work . . . so called football fans come to celebrate a player's injury Stay Classy Houston Rocket River
kerry collins will be kerry collins, he'll put up good yards numbers and he'll throw alot of picks. if he didn't throw picks, he would have kept have his starting job over vince, hell if he didn't throw picks, he would be damn near a hall of fame qb
I hope you're not calling ME out on that. I am saying that they say "out 2 to 4 weeks," but is that really an injury, or... feeling the boos? Take it for whatever is worth, Vince Young didn't play well in this game, and as soon as the pressure mounted, he gave in. Is that what a "leader" is supposed to do? Did you read the article by the Tennessee reporter? He's insinuating there is no injury.
Great assessment... I have been a huge VY supporter but yesterday he pissed off alot of Titan fans. I mean I can accept the ints with the understanding that he is still a work in progress (and our WRs are truly pathetic). But what I can not stand is VY after his second int going and pouting on the bench. Both hands on his head. First his offensive coordinator coming and talking to him and it seemed like he was just talking to a wall. Than his QB coach coming and talking to him. The guy needs to freaking show some maturity and leadership and that has nothing to do with his WRs or anyone else but himself. I hope that this can happen while he is out for the next 4 weeks. I hope he comes back to being the starter but he needs to be show some humility and display leadership when things do not go his way. I think the Titans are fortunate to have Kerry Collins and I hope they do sign Simms. But at this point our D is freaking awesome playing at an elite level. Albert is playing like a man who wants to get paid this offseason. Chris Johnson is going to be a stud. The man is a true playmaker and something truly special. Lendale better get his act in gear cause his playing time just went down significantly. Moestaven - One correction, our D is not good. It is great!!! The AFC is up for grabs and here is hoping the Titans take the first step of winning their division. Screw the Colts and I hope Manning gets sacked more than he ever has this season.
nice to know what a great leader Vince is when he was pouting about going back into the game b/c the fans were booing him. Micheal Jordan of the NFL...
