If that is your criteria, they won't be making any move. You can never be sure about anything in sports. That's the beauty of them.
Ok I am the Nets GM, convince me why its a good idea for me to trade Vince Carter to the Rockets for a combination of Bobby Jackson, Shane Battier, and Luther Head. Considering that I have already turned down other offers of expiring contracts.
I don't see the Nets doing a deal with anyone unless that player(s) they get for VC is at least somewhat a marquee player - ie., puts fans in seats at home games. People still go to Nets games to see VC get the occasional dunk or two. Without Vince, they lose a lot of their attraction to casual NBA fans. Yi won't make up for those numbers. Battier won't. Wally not. They're not going to let their circus act go unless they get someone people will pay to see the next couple seasons.
That wasn't my argument, my argument was that we cannot expect a perfect solution, because you can never predict what is going to happen. Because of that Morey should consider and see if we can get Carter. I also didn't say we definitely have the package to get him. Heck, if I were the Nets GM, any Rockets offer would have to start with 2 No. 1 picks or Scola because they need some some scoring or someone who create their own shot especially at the bigs and we don't have that to trade.
This is a great point - the Cavs are the last team the Nets want to improve, if they want to pry away LeBron in 2 years. Maybe they would trade VC to a Western Conference team for expiring contracts. As for the Rockets, after July 1st, Bobby Jackson + Luther + Head + Chuck Hayes is within 75% of VC's 08-09 salary. One more thing - all the people in this thread that said that they do not want to take on a 4 year salary obligation to VC - would it change your opinion if you knew that VC was only on the books for three years (i.e. through 2010-11), and that 2011-12 was a TEAM option?
I mean BJax + Head + Francis + Hayes is within 75% of VC's 2008-09 salary. All expiring contracts except Hayes' small deal.
go and check the stats of VC, i even do it better for you, heres the link HTML: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/cartevi01.html , go and have a look. His stats are not glorified, he have been consistent over his years. Of course his game change, his getting old, even tmac and kobe does not play the way they use to. His defense may not be as good as battier, but his an okay defender, and he have one skill that Rox seriously needs, getting points.
It's a long shot but adding Vince Carter so as the Correy Maggete, Elton Brand, Gilbert Arenas, Jermaine O'Neal or any other proven scorer would be super if you could keep TMac, Yao and bunch of always contributing players like Scola, Carl Landry. Plus I feel like everbody forgot STEVE FRANCIS.
That can't be true, unless everybody wised up. Sorry, but I think Stevie is basically done... even if he isn't fat steve now.
GOOD NEWS: NETS ARE SHOPPING VINCE AND WE CAN GET HIM CHEAP CUZ IN THE DRAFT NIGHT, THEY OFFERED VINCE FOR WALLY AND A PICK. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/pla...sports/1214987573145460.xml&coll=2&thispage=3 Much has been made of the fact that the Nets cleared enough room to be $22 million under the cap in 2010, which just happens to be the year James could become a free agent. . . . The Nets also are shopping Vince Carter, and they called the Cavs to gauge their interest in him. How ironic, huh? Dumping more salary in an effort to make a supposed pitch to James.
oh come on, why not. I know we may lose something defensivly but to get Vince for Shane+somebody is a really good option. He would be a great 3rd option on this team and I belive he would like to play for contenders.
If we can get him without giving up any of our starting 5 that would be great. BJax Head Brooks Hayes and picks Alston/Francis/(FA) VC/Barry TMac/Battier/Greene/Novak Scola/Landry/Dorsey Yao/Deke/Dorsey
^^^^^ If Vince sucks then we must suck because Vince is better than half the guys on our team. As for people commenting on Steve Francis saying that he is done , thats nonsense. The guy was injured when we signed him give the man a break. I see Steve having the same season Grant Hill had but better. Grant Hill was and injury prone and he came back good. Steve had one serious injury since coming back 2 Houston. He will bounce back. Most Improved Player Awarded to him and beating Rafer out for the starting spot as the season goes on.
We should be able cuz Nets are clearing cap for Lebron 2008. We should be able to get Vince from them with Jackson (expiring), head(expiring) and some other guys and draft picks.
