On one hand I agree with this. On the other ... Sage is likely gone after this season anyway. He's a fa after this season no? It'd be nice to possibly get something for him.
We should get someone off that offensive line the vikings have. I dont know any names but that line does a great job.
A 3rd Rounder for Sage is GREAT value, I would love to do this but Sage I also hate to give up Sage, he was big for us last season/
http://ww3.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=1368 Rosenfels talks end? February 28th, 2008 – 8:04 PM by Judd Zulgad Word out of Houston is the Vikings and Texans have ended talks regarding a trade that would have landed quarterback Sage Rosenfels in purple for a third-round pick. It sounds as if the Vikings have spent much of the day exploring the possibility of adding a quarterback through a trade instead of signing one in free agency. Remember, the team released Kelly Holcomb on Wednesday, leaving the Vikings with Tarvaris Jackson and Brooks Bollinger. Another name that has come up as a trade possibility for the Vikings is J.P. Losman of the Buffalo Bills. Here’s the skinny on Losman.
Since Sage is our best QB, I would be very upset if the trade went through. At this point, I would take a 2nd for Schaub though.
Look at how many QBs started NFL games last season and tell me you're comfortable without a backup like Sage Rosenfels. I'd usually say this is a great trade to pick up a 3rd rounder, but with the injury concerns about Matt Schaub, thats a big risk to go through the season without insurance. The 3rd round pick is about as good of an offer the Texans will get for him because 1.) The Vikings are sitting on an additional 3rd rounder they can afford to throw out there, and 2.) they have terrible QBs and really need a solid backup. My guess is that the Texans are holding out for a 2nd rounder because they don't want to trade Sage, but its one of those "if someone is willing to pay more than its worth you have to be a businessman" situations. But under normal circumstances they'd do it in a heartbeat.
don't do it. you need one more season to see how schaub will fare. He didn't finish well in stats or health. a backup qb may not be valuable to the rest of the league, but that's to simple to look at it that way. The vikings are obviously looking for another option to start with jackson playing so poorly. one man's trash is another man's treasure.
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=nfl&id=1276 talks have stopped for now, I say hold out for a second rounder and if you get it draft Jamal Charles in the second round
I say keep Sage. Schaub may or may not have durability issues and we need another season to find out. I feel a lot better knowing Sage is wearing the headset on the sidelines in case something happens to Schaub.
Not a bad idea. He'd make a good tackling dummy for minicamps. If he is lucky ands works hard, he might actually make the practice squad.
id do it for a 2nd and a 3rd. sage is too valuable to give up for just a 3rd, even if thats what his value is on paper.
I liked Rosenfels, but I'd think if the Texans are a savvy organization, they can (A)find a good backup QB in FA for about the same money Sage is making or (B)draft a decent backup QB in the 3rd round, thus giving us a younger version of Sage. To be honest, I really don't think 29(or 30?) year old backup QBs should be worth all that much.
I don't know how they let the vikings off the phone. I mean there will be quality backups for sage. gus, holcomb, leftwich or harrington can can win a couple games for u. This deal might open back up during the draft.
They probably tried to pull a bait and switch and the paperwork they sent the vikings said Matt Shaub.
unless they offer a 1st you shouldn't do this! he took us to a 4-1 record last year as a starter, and his #'s were better than vince young. this trade won't happen, and i honestly don't think a 2nd should work either. who the hell will be schaub's backup?
2nd sounds about right, but pick yet another QB in the draft...me thinks not...However, who's 2nd string once Sage is gone...
