Wait, didn't you know that Starbreeze is about to release a Riddick remake (plus extra content) coming out next month for the 360/PS3/PC? I think a demo is out for XBL. I haven't paid much attention to it, so maybe they dropped the ball, but I'd assume it would be superior to the Xbox/PC version from years ago.

As for my list...I'll have to post it later...maybe much later depending on how busy I am.

I really really liked the characters(interactions and development), aside from two side characters that you don't really have to use all too much. I actually enjoyed gaining the skills from the weapons. It didn't take that long to aquire the skills and I liked the strategy behind "equiping" the skills you want to use after you learned them. Dialogue is big with me, and the pacing was well done as well. Overall I'd just say it was probably my favorite FF. I played 6 recently, and while it was still good, it just didn't hold up. I enjoyed both chrono games immensly but I'd have to wait to replay them again to make sure they hold up because it's been so long. But all the games I listed I could pick up and play again easily.

Personally, I thought FF7 was awesome up until you reached Nibelheim. Well, actually it started going downhill after leaving Midgar, but after Nibelheim it just took a nosedive.

Gears of War 1 is much better than Gears 2. No lag, superior online play, and also the single player is better.

Ocarina of Time is probably my favorite game though

Oh really? I thought it was a sequel, not a remake. If it's a re-make, then awesome... I don't have to worry.

See, I don't mind the idea of the weapons experience thing if it's kept to a minimum. If I wanted to learn every skill (which I did) it just turned into a lot of power-leveling for me. Lost Odyssey does something similar, but only with equipment, not weapons. I think that's a better alternative. But maybe I'll have to give FF9 another try one day.

Interesting thoughts on FF7. Have you tried Xenogears?

Lots of Ocarina of Time love...

You really think the campaign was better in Gears 1? I admit I'm not 100% done with #2 yet, but from the 75-80% I've played, the campaign in 2 is better. I LOVED acts 1 & 4 in Gears 1, and the extra portions for the PC version were good too. But acts 2, 3, and 5 were "meh." Overall I've liked Gears 2 better.

    Errr... did I miss something...?

I'm one of many, many people who don't understand why Halo gets all the love it gets. It's a very good game, don't get me wrong. But Halo was groundbreaking. Halo 3 is... well... good, but IMO there are better things around now. Other games have gotten better, and the Halo formula hasn't changed much.

San Andreas, huh? I always found Vice City to be the most enjoyable one. Maybe it was the story, but to this day I'm not exactly sure why.

NFL 2K5... man, EA is evil, isn't it? Nothing like eliminating your competition...

I actually just never liked Resistance at all, much like CoD4. Not really sure why... I think maybe too arcadey, and no cover mechanic. I find GRAW2 & RSV2 to be much more strategic and enjoyable.

Have you played Smash Bothers Brawl for the Wii? I ask because I've never played the 64 version, I've only played Melee and Brawl. Is there a reason you really think it's better, or have you not played the newer two?

I can say that, due to my age, I was able to be impressed by every evolution of video games. The young ones will never understand the innovations of Space invaders and Pac Man. How blown away we all were by Donkey Kong. (another screen?!? No Way!!!) etc. I still recall rumors about Atari games having secret levels as a child, but most were false. But THEN Adventure actually had "secret" stuff. Mind blowing at the time. Being able to get blown away by every new system was really pretty awesome, and there are still games on every system that still have replayability.

I recall on the home systems I grew up with:

The 7 in 1 game system, which was basically pong.
    Atari 2600
Apple II (not sure why, but this is where all gamers went between Atari and Nintendo.)
    Nintendo
    Super Nintendo
    Nintendo 64
    Playstation
    Playstation 2

That's as far as I've gotten. I play a lot less these days, and a PS2 works fine for me as of now. Hell, I just bought FF9, which originally came out for the PS1. And I can say that FF8 is the only FF so far that I gave up on. That final boss is too damn hard, and if you aren't prepared correctly, you have to start all over. Sorry, I'm not wasting another fricken year on your ass.

I've got plenty more to include, but I've typed enough here.

    Great thread.

I think my all time favorite is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It was just so much fun to play.

Going a little old school, a game called Wizard Of War on the C64 (I know its spelt differently elsewhere but the name on the cartridge I had was "War" not "Wor") is one of my favorites.

Very simple but difficulty, and the sound was very cool. When you got to the bosses, the different music kicked in or would stop playing all together, can still make the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

Riddick was a great game too on the XBox. I like games that you don't just play but that really draw you in. Butcher Bay was like that.

Dude... grab a Genesis emulator. The Genesis days were some of the best! Play Streets of Rage 2 immediately! You'll have a blast!

Exactly. That's why God of War never had a lot of appeal to me. It's fun and all, but it gets old before you even finish it.

In Devil May Cry 3, you actually have to know what you're doing. Much, much higher degree of difficulty.

I was actually quite disappointed that Goldeneye hasn't held up better, IMO. It bugs me that it takes a billion shots to kill a guy in a game that's supposed to be "realistic" (at least kinda).

And I never did like the early Mortal Kombat games all that much... seemed a little too simplistic, like they were just getting by on shock value.

And I love Tomb Raider, but I feel like it just gets outclassed by Uncharted: Drake's Fortune now.

If you liked Goldeneye, try Everything or Nothing. IMO, the best Bond game I've played.

I like the first one that come out on PS1, but the follow up that came out on the PS2 was long winded, preachy rubbish and put me right off the series.
