Yao is working with professionals. If this type of exercise were not beneficial I don't think they would be doing it. Who are we to question whether or not a professional athlete, who is working with professional trainers, is actually doing an effective workout,
What else is he going to do? Masturbating furiously gets old... His stamina is probably taking a major nosedive right now. When he gets healthy enough to run again I bet his stamina will be on par with a typical Star Wars nerd, he'll be out of breath in 10 steps.
I'm no personal trainer but I would hope they're working in some pool workouts for Yao's conditioning regimen. When I ran track and had to keep weight off of my feet/knees, the best way for me to maintain my stamina was to workout in the pool. MUCH harder than it sounds.
Yea it was tennis balls and then footballs and he would not know which was coming. Tibs was the one who did all that. Yao would also have to dribbling things. Yao hated all those workouts but knew that they would make him better and they did. He got pretty good with the tennis balls.
baller4life , pool workout is a b****. When u need to workout without stress on joints, pool work is the best.
i would assume there wouldn't be much pool work going on with that cast up to his knee. those don't hold up well to water. just stating the obvious
this. adjusting the goal to a more proportionate height wouldn't do ****. unless they put him on a harness and lifted him in sync with his shooting motion in short everyone who plays ball understands that shooting starts with your legs, then your arms then your wrists. Yao will NEVER be able to replicate that motion, this isn't shooting practice, Yao's simply keeping a feel for the ball. if he practices shooting with his left hand or uses the backboard a lot it could pay dividends. all those circus shots, under/over shots etc that players hit are entirely due to "touch" and "feel" and adjustments shooting the ball. but Yao's basically keeping busy. this sort of stuff is zero sum gain. it's not going to hurt his shot but it's not like you can expect dramatic dividends. maybe it'll pay off in a trick shot or 2 during the season but that's it
Do you know if Yao has done those drills since JVG left? This seems like a good time for him to revisit that.
At least he won't need to jump anymore if he can shoot from this low. And that'll do good to his feet.
I don't think it's a case of durvasa (and myself) being "so critical" of Yao shooting from a chair. Yes, we are curious about the effectiveness, but I think we can all agree that it's better than nothing. The question, at least for me, is if he's going to go to the trouble of shooting 300 shots everyday, why not create a setup which allows him to shoot from a more natural height? Maybe sitting on a stool or a step ladder would suffice. I'm sure they could come up with something that is both functional and safe. And yes. The off season sucks bad enough that we're actually talking about this.
