I agree with you at this point, The league has got to be very careful to deal with a fine going to Yao. They have to contemplate what kind of ripples would spread across Chinese community. Hopefully, this clip would make No.1 hit on the youtube eventually so that it might attract Stern's attention as much.

Let's get it done, guys

If Yao could speak English a bit more fluently, that interview could've been much better. He's not as timid when he speaks in Chinese, and usually has great insight. It'd be cool to see if he has a similar interview in Chinese.

Utah of course has always flopped, but i think every team, including houston, and sometimes every player, at one point or another has flopped to get a call. Some do it more often than others, but it's clear that sometimes it will be called and a team can gain an advantage, so it's really on the refs who call it, not on the players. Players only do it because the refs either fall for it or accept it. It's similar to faking a guy into jumping and then leaning into him, but that call isn't as out of control as flopping.

Maybe Yao has looked soft all this time because he's holding back his strength to avoid fouls? He has been a little more aggressive lately, and as a result has been picking up more fouls... there may be something to this.

But what's going to happen? He'll get fined. Adelman will get fined (he spoke out about it, too). League will not prevent flopping and teams that teach players to flop will continue to fluorish (Utah).

I do love Yao finally speaking out about it. Shaq was probably officiated better in his time because he would be outspoken if there was something unjust against him and it's about time Yao followed suit.

Yao can solve flopping himself. He needs to attend the Bill Cartwright school of learning how to shoot the ball with your elbows in perfect position to crack some craniums. Yao could have every center in the league wearing a hockey mask.

Shoulda had Ron Artest translate for him, then it would have been fair...more like this...

"You know what? I had two mother******* fouls tonight, three Tuesday night, **** two more at Minny... and you can go on and on and on and on. Every time a ****** is on the ******** ground, even if the *** just wants to sit down like a ******, they call it on me!"

"Why? If I'm on defense and doing the same ****, the fouls is on us! They can't call it two ways. When I try to post the **** up, they are allowed to beat my *** up and hack all over the place. I know i'm big mother*******. But if guys are kicking my *** I should be allowed to kick their *** also."

Then a reporter would have been punched :D

I WISH he did get fined. I wish he'd cuss out a referee. I wish he'd get in their face and chase them around the court and really give him a piece of his mind. That's the only way this will truly stop. It's like a bully. You can complain all you want to others, but until you step up to them, it's never going to completely stop. This interview may get him some calls the next game, maybe two, possibly 3, but soon it'll be back to the same old bull. He needs to really let them have it, get a tech, and i wouldn't mind him getting thrown out one game, even if it means being suspended for the next. Of course just make sure that game is in the bag :D Oh and do it at home, so the crowd will all boo the refs and cheer Yaoas he exits the court. That will get Stern's attention like nothing else.

this is a great video. wow, yao is 'limiting his strength' against other players when they're PUSHING their whole weight on him. i always knew he was strong, but this makes me wonder how freakin strong yao REALLY is. AMAZING!

But some flops, should embarrass players.

Some flops embarrass basketball as a sport.

If a guy on offense is out of control and the defender takes a little contact but exaggerates it, that's okay. But guys flopping on a POST UP...that's just silly.

You're ultimately right though, it's on the refs to stop blowing their friggin whistles every time someone hits the ground.

But Yao should still challenge their man hood. Dare them to guard him like a man would. Real post defenders don't get excited about flopping...maybe Ben Wallace but he only flops against Shaq and Yao.

    Real post defenders don't flop.

Scola is a flopper though, but I rarely see him flop on a post-up. Scola usually flops when he's showing.

People call Battier a flopper but he's far from it.

How you seen the size of his legs, no one can deny him paint position, if Yao tried to bully his way into the paint, O. Foul.

Yao does deserve a small amount of blame here. Even if the refs call him correctly not every offensive foul was incorrect. I'd say one out of every 3 was in fact an offensive foul. Yao still has issues getting position. He starts out too far from the hoop and has to bump and bump and bump his man, since he's lacking upper body strength, he has to lead with his shoulder at times and that's where he commits the foul. Shaq wasn't better officiated, he just eliminated this problem by establishing deeper position, so most of the time he was just going straight up, rather than bumping and bumping guys for a few seconds.

The sad part is, I doubt this will change anything. Maybe for a game or two the refs will be a bit more lenient, but probably within a week the refs will be back to calling Yao everytime someone falls down, yet Yao can wind up looking like he got attacked by a rabid wolverine and nothing gets called.

Basically, the style brought over by the European players has permeated so far in to the game where flying around the court like a soccer player and drawing as much attention to yourself as possible is the most efficient defense, I don't know what, if anything, will change it.

Personally, I wish Yao would go up high with his elbows and start whacking people. If he's going to get called for fouls, he might as well earn them. Plus, it might cause people to reconsider challenging him for rebounds and positions.

Sad part about it man, there are 3 superstar Centers right now in the NBA.

How they are calling the game now is killing it. There is not that many good big men and there are so many great guards for a reason. That's why when you vote for the All-star game you go...

East you got Dwight...but then who else...Sheed? Uhh....no Bosh whose on a losing team and isn't even a Center.

Then West you got Yao...Shaq...whose third umm...

A lot of the elite PFs are finesse PFs. Centers and really dominant big men just get no respect from the Refs. Guards run amuck and when every they get bodied it's a foul.

So now slowly we are seeing more big men develop a outside shot. Shaq, Yao, Dwight...they may be the last true Centers man. The league needs to straighten this out.

i doubt it would accomplish anything, afterall the jazz have been labeled as floppers for over a decade, by fans, media, and opposing players. I think even ex-jazz players have said it. If all that doesn't embarass them, one guy (Yao) won't.

Well the Jazz have no shame.

But it'd work against some guys who do take pride in their defense.

The Jazz think flopping is a great defensive play obviously, since Boozer is yelling and all pumped up about a flop and their team is rooting for it.
