Yao has that shot, it might be interesting to get him one or two a game to alleviate the fronting.

I haven't missed a game in weeks, until tonight (sigh) so I get home, see the final score and then read... Yao for 3. What?

That was a cool moment to watch. Thanks for putting this up so soon. I hope this gives Yao more confidence so Ron can settle down.

    GO ROCKETS!

I've heard this quote before, and I wouldn't be surprised if Adelman was serious about it. He likes big man who can shoot from the outside. I don't expect this to happen frequently though.

I think yao is a one way player like francis. I think when yao has 1 option, he's very good and effective, but when he has multiple optiong, he's not a quick thinker. I forgot the word because nfl gm's use it when they evaluate qb's. I know yao can hit the mid range shot because he's to good of a free throw shooter not to, but the reason he doesn't shoot it with confidence is because he's he's thinking about cutters, the play, the defender. Thats why i say he's better suited as a play finisher vs a play maker. When the run pick and pop, he just need to fire. No thinking, no hesitation, just shoot. He can do that and it will expand the offense because now the coach can move him up the lane and open the baseline.

When Adelman first got here, he mentioned that Yao shooting 3s every once and while could be something they look into. I thought that idea was long ago scrapped, but I suppose he could be serious.

I seriously think if Yao develops a 3 pt stroke or even a dependable perimeter face up/ pick and pop J it will extend his career.

JVG would never allow Yao to shoot 3ptrs (he stated that emphatically) but with post up guys like Artest and Scola, we can play Yao out in the perimeter/3pt line on certain times against certain teams.

I'd think someone was lying if they told me Yao had more 3 point makes in a game than Artest.

i didn't think jvg was 100% right when he said yao is average if he's more than 5 feet away from the basket. his rationale was that since yao is much more effective in the low blocks, why put him anywhere else? that logic ignores the fact that the game is 5-on-5 and the paint is not an exclusive area for big men, especially in the new guard-oriented era.

otoh, i hope adelman doesn't have an agenda to try to turn yao into a vlade v.2. i am all for the notion that yao should have a mid-range jumper game (incl. occasional 3's). actually, if we have a right type of pg and yao can perfect his j, it'd be ideal to run a stockton-malone pick and pop game since it's nearly impossible to block yao's jumper shot. that will add weapons to yao's game and be beneficial to the team's overall offense by opening up the paint for others like ron or scola at times.

but until we have a right pg (don't think brooks is the right one), yao still needs to stay in the low post 90% of the time and shoots at least 16 times a game.

It's too dangerous to have Yao shooting threes. I think he's too slow to shoot it. If he misses that shot 70% of the time, who is under the basket to rebound the ball? Brooks and Wafer? HAHA.

Maybe not Vlade ... but Ilgauskus is sure making a living off his pick and pop 20 footer with LeBron. It would be nice if Yao developed that kind of stroke.

I've watched the replay like 10 times already. What a great shot! I was literally jumping up and down when Yao made it.

OK, I lied. Make it 30 times.... :D

SportsCenter did not have this in the top 10 plays, nor the Wafer poster dunk. BSPN hates us.

Correct. And like Yao, he rarely took a 3 in his career. But this season he's taken one maybe once a game or every other game.

One made three and we're talking about expanding Yao's range. Like Landry's three, we won't see this again for a very long time. Beautiful shot, though.

Yao should stick with being a post player, but the idea of a 7-6 3 pt shooter is just damn scary if the shots are consistent.
