Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo injured his left leg in the first quarter and left the court on a stretcher.

“I cried so much about it when I was laying on the floor but when I got in the locker room I decided to be positive and thank God for the wonderful 18 years that I had.”

Thank you Dikembe Mutombo, thank you so much for everything.
The game of basketball will miss you dearly.

I am still numb, it might be taking it too far but I honestly don't care much for the series at this very moment, I just can't stop thinking about all the heroic moments Deke gave us on the court, in a Rockets uniform, when we needed him the most. When Yao went down TWICE, he took over the mantle and we taxed the hell out of him physically and mentally, and depended on him to help McGrady and crew carry us into the playoffs. TWICE, not once, he delivered for us, helping the Rockets go on improbable runs without Yao in the lineup, and helping us make the playoffs.

He was a warrior, and he was easily the most significant Rocket (to me and I am sure to many others) in the post-Dream era. I have never loved any single player the way I loved Deke, even prior to him joining the Rockets he was always one of my favorites. Yet, he did most of his best work as a Rocket, granted it was mostly off the court, but he also helped shape the personality of and guide this team through some tough times. And perhaps his biggest legacy yet on the court will be him mentoring our de facto franchise player in Yao Ming. Where would Yao be without Deke's brotherhood and guidance? Deke was always a shoulder Yao could lean on, confide in, and seek help from. At this moment, I have to say I am worried about Yao, Deke's injury had to be crushing for him emotionally, they had a couple of shots of him last night with Deke on the floor in pain and Yao looked like he was about to burst out with tears.

Here is to my favorite (tied at first with Dream) Rocket of all time. Love you Deke, please stay around Houston and the Rockets for as long as you can. The city needs you, the team needs you.

I got choked up when I watched Deke's postgame interview. And I'd like to think I'm not a pansy.

From the sharp elbows to the finger wag to the humanitarian work, there will never ever be another player like Dikembe Mutombo.

    Thanks for all the memories!

I hope this gets Yao angry and makes him start playing more aggressive. I don't care if he gets a couple of offensive fouls. In the end, he will benefit more from a pissed off, aggressive style of play.

Does anyone have a vid of Deke's 2 blocks on Okafor at the end of the Bobcats game last year? Greatest moment I've ever seen live at the Toyota Center.

It's so sad what happened to Deke last night, and you could see it in his face that his injury was serious. It's a shame his career had to end the way it did, especially when he was playing so well. It happened to one of the nicest people in the world and an ambassador to the world as well as the sport of basketball. I pray he has a safe recovery and that we support him as much as he supported our Rockets. Get well Deke, you will be missed.

Will leave it up for a while.

Deke, you're awesome and we'll never forget you.
