There are a lot of factors that make this streak special. The biggest one is the fact that their best player is out and the big contributions from almost EVERY player on the team.

The Rockets are doing something that is very rare, and they are one of the last teams that anyone would expect could do something like this. It’s not like they are going on a long winning streak with the likes of Allen, Garnett, and Pierce. They are winning without Yao, who is their best player. They are winning with Tmac, who is not physically in his prime anymore. They are winning despite having a new coach, who has a completely different offensive game plan then their previous coach. They are winning with rookies. They are winning despite their deficiencies with heart and teamwork.

This is truly remarkable and I think that anyone who mocks Bill Worrell is not looking at the full picture.

I think that is the right way to look at it.

I don't know Clutch, there's another TV angle where it's clear that Worrell said,

    "You can't f!cking stop us!"

He meant finest hour in terms of pride. He was proud of the guys for doing what tehy did especially after Yao going down. Winning the title in the 6th seed was an amazing accomplishment but not something you say "wow im proud of them", because they shouldnt have been, as defending champs, in the 6th seed in the first place.

As I'm sure someone already mentioned, I think he was talking specifically about the regular season... but I can't read his mind, so I don't know.

I didn't get to see the game (picking wife up at airport........just bad timing), and I swear Jim WAS crying. "Orgasming all over themselves" might be an understatement. For those two, any hyperbole was definitely UNCONTROLLED excitement.

I sorta agree will Bill actually, especially the "proud" comment before it, referring to the adversity we've had to face. A lot teams have won championships, happens once a year, but only a couple of teams in NBA history have ever done what the Rockets have done this year.

Considering that only 2 other teams have done what this team has done... it really is one of the landmark achievements in Houston, if not NBA... or even ALL sports history...

Teams win titles every year... teams don't do what we're doing but once every quarter century...

(p.s. the 95 title run was still the most improbable playoff/title run of any team in any sport, ever)

obviously you trade a 20-game winning streak for a championship any day of the week(or just take both) but the determination of these guys to make this season special despite a rough start and then the yao injury is just incredible.

This is the second or third comment in this thread that has completely forgotten the fact that we were a game away from winning the Western Conference in '97. I would say beating Kemp and the Sonics that year was almost as gratifying as '94 championship.

by this logic, i guess the Patriots should be feeling REALLY good right now, because they did what no other team has ever done and probably ever will again. win 18 straight games in a season.

maybe, maybe, one can rationalize... one can say, you know, the Rockets have absolutely no realistic chance of even making it to the Finals without Yao. injuries are part of the game, and it especially sucks since this seems to be THE re-occuring theme of this group of Rockets. but the season was not to be in vain, because this streak inexplicably salvaged it. no matter what happens, no matter what eventual group of poseurs wins the title, these 07-08 Rockets will forever be immortal legends of the Pantheon because of the "streak"! or so goes the spin.

I heard that and was like "what?".....then I thought maybe he meant because they are doing it without Yao and because of that it is so improbable.

I can sort of see what he is saying there.

I think we are witnessing something great here. Winning this many games in a row in a proffesional league like the NBA is simply unbelievable. It is something we will only see once in a lifetime. Winning an NBA title is the ultimate, but right now we are witnessing history. Maybe thats what Bill meant.
