They were considered a "Cinderella" team as other overachievers are. You've watched enough basketball to see that happening, right?

maybe not huge but they still were underdogs

i mean detroit was the 1 seed, the magic a 8th seed for a reason.

detroit had to win one road game really and then take care of business at home

had it been the other way around where detroit had to win 2 on the road and 1 at home they would hvae probably lost that series.

more often than not if a team is up 3-1 and going on the road for game 5 they come back and win it in game 6 at home (like the rockets did to the blazers last season) but if game 6 @ home is lost then game 7 on the road is pretty much a sure-fire L

being down 3-1 isnt as big of a deal if you the much more favored team (same with the phoenix/la series from a few seasons back)

not giving tmac a pass on losing that series (esp after his dumb ass comment) but i dont think it was as momumental collapse as others think it is

Is it true that Orlando gained home court advantage after going up 2-1 against the Pistons?

A simple yes/no answer will suffice.

the tmac in this video is welcome on my rockets team.

Daryl Morey has a huge influence on the tmac drama for me. i'm not opposed to tmac being a career rocket. and i can see this happening.

if morey decides tmac is worth it and keeps him on our rockets team, then i am all for it - and you guys should be too! if the 'smartest' GM in the NBA keeps mac, then DaDakota and everyone else should eat crow and support tmac!

DD - can you do that if morey keeps him?

if morey decides to trade tmac and move on, i trust morey knows what he is doing and will embrace the new-look rockets, especially with yao out.

i am putting my faith in Daryl Morey on this one, granted, but Morey has been stellar as our GM.

TMAC looks great in this game. i have confidence that tmac still has 'it' and can still be a key contributor on a championship team. i can't wait to see what happens in the next few weeks!

You do realize that prior to T-Mac playing these past few games (and after he leaves the game) that there have many times where others took shots without ball movement? So I hope that you had/have issues with them too.

haha touche. forgot about that, and it really surprised me he didnt go all out in game 7 of that series.

my point was that kobe and wade have the drive to finish off a series or come out with a win when it really matters. not that they always succeed (hence why kobe will never get to the MJ level in my book), but they get really intense in crunch time (such as getting to the line no matter what, something tmac doesn't do). so i understand where the criticism comes from even though im the biggest tmac fan there is.

The Rockets had HC last season vs the Lakers after the Game 1 win but still lost. Last years Rockets and that Magic team had different pathways but both still lost in a series they had no business coming anywhere close to winning. If you think last season's Rockets were impressive in that series(which anyone does) then you would also have to say that Magic team was impressive as well, regardless of the result. Both did it with less than stellar rosters against a much superior team.

As stated before, homecourt is initially set by your season standings. Yes or no? And for the record, they would say Orlando STOLE home court which implies the other team had it initially. Yes or no?

Interesting. You hate the fact that you agree with me.....so much that you can't even bring yourself to answer a simple yes/no question.

Btw, yes to both your questions.

sigh, Favorites vs Homecourt advantage. You lose homecourt advantage if you lose a game at home but that doesn't mean you're not the favorites to win the series anymore.

It's not that at all. What you are saying implies something different. That is why I responded that way. Because the overall argument was about T-Mac not getting out of the first round which led to the "who had home court" debate. Which then led to arguments about team rosters/better talent (may be not in that order).

So I can give a conditional answer (of yes) if you'd like:

Detroit based on their better regular season record had home court, but by Orlando winning a few games they became the "Cinderella" team by stealing home court only to have their glass slipper break with Detroit regaining home court thereby winning the series.

See we both can be right, !!

Yes, that was an easier/more direct way of addressing it. Thanks.

But it wasn't as fun. ;)

The argument stemmed from the assertion that McGrady's team had home court advantage 4 times. This assertion was proven to be true.

Like duh. Of course they are still perceived as huge underdogs they're the 8th seed against the top seed for crying out loud. The NBA isn't the NFL or the NCAA where you can get lucky and cinderella teams win most of the time, playoffs are a 7 game series, and in that case the better team almost always wins out. Homecourt advantage in the NBA is overrated, the main reason homecourt teams wins out is because more often than not the higher seeds are the better team period.

Going up 3-1 against the top seed when you're the 8th seed isn't a choke job, its called overachievement  Whether or not they won is irrelevant at that point, the mere fact that they managed to get 3 games ahead against the top seed is already an achievement itself.

Exag much? Why don't you check out Tmac's playoff averages, then tell everyone that he's somehow the reason for his teams losing? Tmac IS consistent in the playoffs, the main reason we lost in the first round is because we always ended up against the Jazz, and as we all know Yao Ming is Okur and Boozer's beeyatch. Tmac has indeed been consistent enough, its just that through the years his supporting casts haven't been up to par.

FLOW is overrated. The ball needs to go where it will be most effective, and more often than not that's at the hands of your best players. The triangle offense is just as equal opportunistic as RA's read and react, and yet the ball always went 1) Shaq, 2) Kobe, 3) everyone else. Wonder how succesful that was?

Well actually its 5 if you count that as home court advantage. Charlotte, Detroit, Dallas, Utah (x2)

while i agree with you too.
Kobe is considered the greatest player of our time right now.
When the playing field is equal a la undertalented team with kobe as the main and only option.
He failed to get his team out of the first round.
All his drive and determination didn't mean **** when it came to that.

I agree with alot of the criticism Tracy gets, but i think he gets a
raw deal on the playoff failures.

From Chris Broussard on t-mac and some DIrk.

i definitely agree...i really think its a combo of bad luck and bad match ups. and i view kobes failure against the suns as the same as tmacs failure against the pistons. in both cases, they were up 3-1 against much better teams. and i dont think it was their fault that they lost the series because the suns and pistons adjusted. although if kobe or tmac had a 40 pt game in any of the remaining games...they could have gotten the upset. hence they failed to step up when it really mattered.
