It is true. He was fine enough to put up a good performance against the Jazz. There was nothing structurally wrong with his knee. Nope, the most logical answer is still slacking on rehab. There was no reason for him to have to start from scratch in mid-August unless he let himself get out of shape during rehab (which he did). No matter how you try to spin it, the fact is he was noticeably chubbier when the season started, and that clearly made it tough for him to get into game-shape.
I tmac has nightmares about Bowen on occasions he just had a lot of subpar teammates for most of his prime. Sucks
Look at the current NBA players. Most of them aren't in game shape yet, but none of them had a gut like McGrady did.
How do you know there was nothing wrong with his knee? Reports were out that he needed surgery, but would wait. What about his shoulder? He had a torn labrum. Are you telling me he made it up? Doctors made it up? Were the surgeries faked? C'mon now... Read what you're writing here. You're blaming a player for not staying in top physical shape whilegoing through surgery and then his rehab. Do you not understand this? You can't be in the process of rehabbing surgeries at two major joints, like the knee and shoulder, and still be doing regular conditioning work. What did you want him to do, hop 3 miles on one leg? No one is spinning that he was overweight. He was, but if you can't see the real reason why, or least the one that make the most sense, then you're the one spinning things. Most players that go through surgeries get out of shape. Few can stay in it. You're not working out and yet your body's appetite won't adapt to this for a while. It happens, get over it. There's plenty of other reasons to get on tmac that make much more sense, this doesn't, at all.
You're spouting ignorance. Scoliosis, heard of it? Tmac has it. It's not severe, but enough to disrupt his posture. One of the effects of having a crooked spine can be a stomach that protrudes some. Ever seen tmac with a six pack? Even when he was young and thin he didn't have it. For you're core to kick in correctly, and create the "girdle" around your waist that tightens up to create stability, you must have good posture. Otherwise core muscles don't activate properly. Notice the difference in his stomach. Spoiler
I posted this in the game thread during the Rockets and Hawks game. I'm posting it again because it could have easily been overlooked with so much posting going on during games: Regardless of how he left Houston, he is genuinely a great person. While other NBA players solely give their time and/or money to certain organizations, McGrady, amongst countless other things, took families in need into his home in Sugarland ... Had a chef come in and cook for them ... Bought them clothes for the parents and their children, bought toys for all of their children for Christmas, and he himself, along with others gifft wrapped the presents themselves. He did this throughout the holidays until the season started (not just one day), and it contnued while he wasn't there. Although he's been playing for other teams, he hasn't and doesn't stop giving back to people in the Houston community and surrounding areas. He's very humble and laid back. Its time to stop boo'ing him.
maybe you or someone should post this on it's own thread, but has nothing to do with this thread. There are a lot of NBA players who do plenty of charity work that get booed. It's part of the game. We boo all these guys: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nohsfYk3DsY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SUF5QcSwKes" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lutL1H2v41c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
In an NBA game, people boo the opposing team's players. You are just reaching cause you are McGrady fan coming to grips that he's getting booed by his former team's fans, which happens in other cities like Orlando and Toronto. We booed the crap out of Patrick Ewing and Alonzo. We all know they are great guys off the court. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nnyZtsEVP2E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Les Alexander is a charitable man, but that's not why we are criticizing him. To me, it's just proof that you guys are out of basketball facts and reasons to defend your hero for whatever basketball faults he has.
Ok, I can understanding that I posted something that had nothing to do with this thread ... But each video you posted are with players and their contributions on camera ... What I mentioned about McGrady is something he did and has been doing in private in HOUSTON despite not playing for the Rockets. Y'all can boo people all you want ... To me its ignorant unless the player disrepected you personally ... But to each is own ... Star players fans love to boo are one of the only reasons we're excited about being fans of the game ... Besides the game itself ... I'm personally tired of people criticizing players for personal decisions they make ... Rather right or wrong ... Like our ***** don't stink
Okay, then if we should boo the opposing teams players, then I submit that we should boo everyobody on the opposing team lol ... Just boo everybody
I made a thread for great charity work with your story as the first post. It's a game dude. People boo for whatever reason. I went to UT. I boo the crap out of the Aggies. yet I have many Aggie friends. Don't overblow it. It's sports.
True that. I honestly didn't bother looking for a thread concerning charity work ... And I definitely agree with you speaking of booing an opposing team as a whole ... I saw this thread, and heard what Clyde and Worrel mention about young fans not knowing what he's done for the Rockets organization, and I felt I should mention this ... The Atlanta Hawks weren't boo'd (maybe during introductions), but Tracy was singled out and boo'd. If he got traded w/o the drama he gets a standing o instead ... Having a surgery to block a trade that would help our Rockets is hard for us Rocket fans ... But from the other side is tough on the player and their families (even though its part of the business) example: His family is still trying to decide whether to pack the family up, take the kids out of school where they've gotten comfortable, and interrupt the relationships the children and adults have established in Houston, and move to Atlanta. I do agree though, its a part of sports
http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/Rockets-McGrady-has-surgery-on-knee-shoulder-1778737.php There's plenty he can do to stay in shape. Work out in a pool. Use nautilus machines. Resistance bands. Plenty of professional athletes get arthroscopic surgery and don't get fat (relatively) during rehab. When most players resume playing after a surgery, they usually aren't very far from being in game shape. As you can see from the picture (in my other post), McGrady was far from game shape. And in any case, McGrady had arthro on his knee. It would've been in his best interest NOT to fatten up and make his knee work harder. The guy was getting paid $20mm. That's not enough for him to stay in shape?
Look at any McGrady picture taken before May 2008. He looks trim and has no gut. And after he came back from surgery, he had a gut. There's 2 options: 1. He slacked on rehab and got out of shape 2. During his rehab, his scoliosis magically accelerated and manifested itself
You went from saying he "was fine" to "there was no structural damage". There's a big difference there. If he was fine, then he wouldnt have had surgery at all. He obviously wasn't fine . Just because there was no structural damage doesnt mean there were no symptoms or issues. From the link you provided: And you keep ignoring his shoulder injury. You haven't addressed that at all. Pool? Bands? Machines? You do realize he can't do any movements for a while, right? It's not just about the impact on the joint, especially early on. You're also not going to do anything excessive, since you still want it to heal. Do you have any idea how many light reps he'd have to do to burn a high amount of calories? He's not going to sit there and do 500 light reps just to stay trim. You might as well stick your finger in the incision and and fish around inside. Which athletes didn't get fat? Do you have pictures and a time table that matches tmac's? Did they have time to get back to their normal activities, prior to coming to camp? As for your pictures: You're arguing he went into the off season, after the Utah series, and gained weight, came in to camp overweight, right? Well, this pic isn't even from the beginning of the season, it's clearly from those playoffs, maybe even from the year before. On top of that, the "gut" is clearly the slack from his jersey. Here is a similar picture. Looks like he gained 30 pounds here This picture is showing the protruding stomach i explained is due to his scoliosis. Notice it's high, not low. Fat isn't going to accumulate only above your bellybutton. His arms are trim, not much bodyfat. More than his Orlando days? Sure, but by how much, 10-12 pounds? I think most teams would take that from a player who's been doing rehab for 3 months.
^ 1st picture, no gut. 2nd picture, no gut. 3rd picture, gut. I don't care about his shoulder injury. His shoulder wasn't a recurring problem. I guess it never occurred to him (or you) to go on a diet, right? It's not like he was getting paid $20mm to be a professional athlete, right? Like I said, plenty of players get offseason surgery. Very few start the season as out of shape as McGrady was.
And that's actually a possibility. It's not magic, It's called continuing to get out of alignment, which would happen if you have scoliosis and don't train to keep it in check, which I don't believe he did. His trainer didnt address it, from the wrkouts i've seen. Probably why he let him go and hired Grover. his misalignment was reported by the doctor in Waco, who said tmac had many imbalances, clear from the way he stood, walked,e tc. Here's an example of Kyphosis, which may be present with scoliosis. There's no fat gain involved, just the change in curvature of the spine. Something like this could have developed over time or became worse. The longer you go with scoliosis, without adressing it, the more likely it is to happen or worsen.
Exercise works better to lose fat, compared to dieting. That's proven. He could have dieted to keep his overall weight number down, but that wouldn't have kept his body fat level in check as well as exercising. It's why many women become "skinny fat". They turn to hardly eating to tone up and their bodyfat% can actually increase, although the scale shows they lost weight. And again, whatever weight gain is there isnt much. It happens during rehab. Two major joints, upper and lower body, and 3 months of rehab? I'm actually surprised he didn't gain more weight.
