Back when the Rockets had a great bench.

Sam Cassell, best bench point guard in Rockets history.

after game 1, rockets players were giddy with their overtime win and rudy scolded them in practice to not get content…..to stay humble and stay hungry, in other words. so this thread is clearly a cleverly disguised attempt to state that mchale is a softee coach unable to motivate his troops. #hyperventilatin'

Haha - if that was the intent, OP's message is less cleverly disguised than it is indecipherable and ambiguous.

Look at all that space in the paint Dream/Horry create. Also, why isn't Cassell on staff, given the recent turnover rate of young PGs?

I love those Rockets team as much as anybody but one player does not make a great bench. We really only played 8 deep during that playoff stretch and at some times shortened it to 7. Outside of our starting five of Olajuwon/Horry/Elie/Drexler/Smith, Cassell was the sixth man and played starter minutes. Outside of that all we had were bigs like Carl Herrera and Charles Jones. Herrera was ok and allowed us to have a three man rotation at the big positions and Jones was very old by 95 and was really only used for his fouls.

I wouldn't call Cassell and Herrera a great bench.

Can we at least wait until the offseason to live in the past?

Five stars, seriously. Thanks, tinman. I needed that.

For people complaining about a great and inspiring video, don't click on a thread that has a very accurate label about a past basketball game. And go back to starting identical thread classics such as "hot garbage". Wonderfully helpful threads, those are.

Excellent thread -- the Rockets never give up -- the talent on that 95 team was insane.

If I recall correctly, this game and performance by Cassell and the Rockets came after Rudy T yelled at them in practice for having "happy feet" after surviving game 1, coming back from down 20. The Rockets came out in Game 2 and gave the Magic no hope, went home to the Summit, and completed the sweep, and successful defense of their championship.

I thought the Magic would come fired up after losing the first game in OT and was afraid the Rockets would come out complacent.

Boy, was I wrong. Horry was huge on the defensive end. He was stealing everything in the passing lane and swatting all the three point attempts. Hakeem was doing his thing.

And Sam was simply owning the Magic that game.

Sam, little guy with the biggest heart.
