50(194) Question: The first number is the number of peers connected to YOU? The second number is the total number of peers? What affect does the number of "max uploads" have on things? The max uploads was at 4, and I upped it to 10. Does it matter?

Like I said before...when I initially posted this... I am the only seed right now I am on cable...but my upload speed is capped at 50KBs... Im waiting on the server admin to get back and open the pipes over at my hosting server....once that happnes...the speeds will increase by HUGE amounts......he is running behind...but rest assured that it willl get faster as the night wears on. also...dont believe what you are seeing....there is at least one seed...me....even if it shows as zero....it isnt right...cause I will have mine seeding until there is at least 5 complete files out there to help take the load.
thats fine what i dont understand is that i've been dling for at least 2 hours now and been getting 0-2k max and when i look at the peers i am connecting to everyone is at 25%+ complete while i am at 2.4% should I be able to dl faster based on the fact that the peers i am connected to have more of the file i have? I was hopign to have about 20% done by now but its only 2 i am not sure what i have to do different i've had no problem getting the highlights (yeah i do know cuz there were more seeds) but not sure the specifics of bt but if there are 25ppl who have considerably more of the file than I do should i be able to dl off of them, unless they have like some feature of do not ul when dling feature on their bt client
You are probably behind a firewall or a router. You need to open the port for BT in order to get faster dl. Google!
^ the truth Bittorent only shows you who you're connected to, and as long as those peers you're connected to have a higher % of the file than what you have, then there's really nothign to worry about. I see no seeds, and the highest % downloaded is like 42%, but that person's percentage keeps going up. Then I know there's osmeone else out there seeding it for him. Hopefully you get your pipelines open so that things will be quicker. Good work anyway.
I really appreciate it a lot, R2K. There must be a couple of guys here with faster connection, like T3. Why don't you ask for volunteers, and send them the direct download links privately then you won't be the only seeder. This must be taking a lot of your bandwidth now. Thanks
I feel ya bro.....I wish I understood more about how bittorrent rations out the file pieces....I dont. Supposedly, the program is supposed to favor faster peers to help get the file spread as fast as possible...but when we tried to test it by adding the host server to my swarm on a game last week...it didnt favor uploading to it at all...and you know as well as I do that there wasnt anyone in that swarm witha faster pipe than the server has. Im curious about your settings....have you tried a different program? Router settings? Man..Im at a loss...I owe you so much what with your help getting my encoding down....if I wsnt feeding the entire swarm right now...Id send you to my ftp...but I dont dare fire it up right now....not until the server pipes open up.... really sorry YoYo..
no worries r2k on that if i dont have it done by tomorrow morning (its close to 8pm here) i'll shoot you an email requesting to grab it some other way hopefully by then with the # of seeds going up my speed may increase. btw no worries on the encoding help it was my pleasure to help you learn whatever little i knew and it has been a boon to all out-of-towners like me so i am glad i was able to help
my max ul speed is less than 18kb/s and my globe upload rate is no limit how can I increase the upload speed

Hey R2K. I know you're on Superseed mode. But it just seems to me that the Superseed mode doesn't really work all that well. You mentioned that your upload speed is 50 K/s. Ideally, if Superseed only sends out each piece once, then as long as people are sharing then the average download speed should be about 50 K/s. Either people aren't sharing or the Superseed mode isn't that great. I don't know, I guess I'm just getting a little antsy. Maybe you can snub all the peers except for about ten, so if the problem is in the algorithm this would effectively cut down on the number of downloaders that your client has to deal with. I mean if Superseed mode doesn't work then a 10 peer swarm is better than a 200 peer swarm because of reduction of duplicate transfers of data. It's just a thought.
