This is the problem I have, when you group the entire race into one group and say that all of us act like that or want that or do that and so on. The truth is there are millions of black people in America. How many of them do you know? How many of them have you interacted with? How many have you seen? My bet is not even close to 10%, hell 5%, you know what I am willing to bet it is less than 1%. You initially based your claims on what you have experienced personally, I find nothing wrong with that but when you attempt to label the entire race by that and something as misguided as rap lyrics that you mentioned above and more than likely, what you have seen on tv and movies, well that is just wrong. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, my mother is white and my father is black and my grandfather was in the KKK and my mother and me and my siblings were not allowed over there. My cousins have introduced me as their "black" cousin and make jokes about half and half, not to mention what I have experienced personally. I can name on one hand how many times blacks have commented on the fact that I am biracial even though I look Latino and they know my racial makeup. Am I going make a broad generalization that all whites are racist? No. Am I going to say all blacks are not, no. Could I say in my experiences? Sure and that makes sense but I am not going to judge the entire race by the small sample I have witnessed.
I see your point. But do you see my point? Is it okay for blacks to call other races racists names and remarks when if the same is done to them, it's a big deal? Like I mentioned, I do have black friends. I'm not saying all blacks are racists, but the race has more racists than other races. I'm just speaking from my experiences. I was just venting because I know I'll never get a chance to tell a black person to stfu because he made racist remarks toward me and my people.
How about this analogy? Take 4 glasses of water with equal amounts and label each (white, black, asian, hispanic). Add a spoon of salt in each one, except the one labeled black. That one, add 1.5 spoon. Which one is the most salty? Does it mean that the most salty one contains all salt? No, just the most salt out of the four.
I saw your point when speaking from personal experiences, I just don't agree with labeling the entire race based off of that. It is never OK for anybody to use derogatory racial remarks toward a person or group. Again, how many blacks and whites do you know where you can say that the blacks have more racists then the whites? It's a generalization about the entire group and I have a problem with that. Why wouldn't you get the chance? I have seen it done before, why can't you do it too?
Do you know why I didn't get the chance? Because they go in groups. It is never one black dude who made fun of me. No way am I risking getting injured just to defend my race. But I have never seen a group of whites calling some blacks the N word and poking fun at them.
Yes, we go in groups and those groups are violent.....ALL THE TIME!!! I have both on tv (news, documentaries, etc.) and personally. It is there and just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it is not prevalent.
Okay, okay I get your point. You mean that I cannot say this because there are millions of people I have not encountered with. Good. What I said was just my opinion. Of course it's not like I'll not talk to black people. It's just what I think. And you being a hybrid, I can see why you have a neutral stand.
Well, I just have a problem with you labeling the entire race because in doing so you're saying I and my family members are that way. That's why I hate when the entire race, any race, is labeled. I have no problem when you talk about your experience but I hate when people label the entire race based off that experience. Happens all too often. Hybrid, lol. Never heard that before.
Well I'm black and I have. I dont care what color you are racism is wrong and I hate it with a passion.
tree-mac thx for baiting, ressurecting this lame arse thread, and starting another d&d quality thread here in the hangout. edit: i see your other thread was moved. thx, mods. i don't throw out the word "dumb" often... but, seriously tree-mac?
We are a human species. I was referring to his multi-race. Just like President Obama is a hybrid. I never considered him black or white.
What are you talking about? It's not like I called him a dog or a cat. So if someone calls you an engineer, he is not calling you a man? Twisted logic there. Even the government labels the people by races. You don't see boxes for you to fill in that asks what race you are?
I'm coming very late to this thread and haven't had the chance to read through much of this but just throwing my two cents in. For those posters arguing that blacks are racist and have negative experiences with blacks have you ever considered that might have something to do with your own attitudes towards them? It seems to me that if you believe the worst about another group of people that you will project that in your dealings with them and it becomes self-fulfilling. As far as the facts that blacks per percentage of overall population are incarcerated at a higher rate and that predominately black neighborhoods experience more crime yes those are true but that ignores the reasons for why. I often hear people who bring stuff up like that like to phrase it as the tough truth such as saying, "I know its not politically correct but lets face the facts that black per capita commit more crime." To me this is just a euphemistic way of justifying racism because it identifies a symptom, blacks committing crime, and attributes that as a base cause, blacks are inherently more violent than whites, asians and etc.. That pretty much ignores things like poverty, poor education and the fact that racism for hundreds of years have prevented blacks from fully participating in American society. While yes we have legally ended discrimination its not that easy to undo centuries of institutionalized racism.
people have been racist to asian americans for hundreds of years and even today in hollywood and general popular culture asians are always represented as weak math nerds with speech impediments. If stereotypes were so prevalent in popular culture for black people or hispanics it would cause riots for extreme racism, but the asians just accept it and work hard through it all to become successful. Think about how how Indians and Asians are generally treated. Arguably worse than black people in modern times, and nearly as bad in the past and yet these two demographics are the most successful out of any despite their oppression.
