Sorry, but until hip-hop gets some decent artists, Eminem will continue to look far better than he is.

And he IS talented. But seriously, who is his competition right now? When Lil Wayne is viewed as one of the best rappers going, well, there you go.

I don't know, man. When Em is on his game (lyrics, flow, beat), he is as good as anyone, past or present.

Why does he need contemporary competition to be considered good? If he's good, he's good regardless of what other garbage is out there. In my opinion, Eminem is still better than most of the rappers from yesteryear that get glorified "just because". I agree with you on Lil Wayne, though.

All that being said, I can't say I really like this track...

I honestly don't get why people say Wayne is viewed as one of the rappers. There are more people saying he's garbage than claiming he is the best. The best rapper alive thing was started by him not by hip hop fans.

It's based on all the (unnecessary) airplay he gets and the fact he claims it.

Well most of the stuff is on the radio is unnecessary. He is better than people give him credit for though. Especially his older stuff.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like Eminem's music has not aged very well. I liked his first three albums when they came out, but I haven't listened to them since and have no desire to listen to them anytime soon. He also appears to be well past his prime.

    He's gone soft.
I like the angry and sad side of him. That is the best.

Theres an entire generation of Lil Wayne fans that have no idea what "Tha Block is Hot", "500 Degreez", "Lights Out" and "The Carter" are, and that is incredibly sad. By Carter II, I pretty much lost interest.

since real slim shady, his commercial stuff are all garbage

personally i grew up on gangsta rap, and hip hop is dead until they revive the gangsta raps, which is unlikely given the state of affairs

Yeah, just like when Biggie died you had his album come out, then tribute songs, then everybody giving him praise as being the G.O.A.T. I'll give him his props, he was good but not the greatest, nowhere near it. As for Wayne, I really don't get all the hype myself but oh well he sells.

When you say "gangsta rap", are you referring specifically to the content of the lyrics?

Yep, that's one of the best verses EVER in hip hop. His verse on Dead Wrong is also crazy...

    When I'm Gone
    Lose Yourself
    Mockingbird
    The Way I Am
    Stan

That's my top five from him...

Nothing totally new for Eminem. Just check out the "Ass Like That" video (NSFW, though).....

But, like others said, Eminem is one of few rappers that I can stand to listen to. I think his lyrics are pretty creative and great, and yes when he's on, he's ON.

Man sure can't take much, though....

Did Bow Wow diss Soulja Boy? You know, Bow Wow actually isn't too bad of a rapper but he is going to catch flak because he came out when he was a kid. I can't think of any rap artist that comes in young like that then makes the successful transition into a grown rapper.

This is just funny to me..

The image that keeps turning in my head is a bunch of little kids playing in the mud, making mud-pies, and then here comes a long line of serious judges to walk by each mud pie, and expound on their relative virtues, talking and debating endlessly about which mud-pie is the best, reminiscing over past mud pies, and appreciating how the mud-pies are somehow validated and made even better when the children throw their mud-pies in each others' faces.

    :D

Now I admit, maybe it's just my own personal tastes which are incompatible to the great art that is 'rap'. But that does not stop it from sounding to me like someone trying to recite infantile poetry while gargling R Kelly's doo-doo butter.
