I doubt if thats even Tmac. Looks like a stunt double to me. Would make sense since Gilbert isn't in the video and hes one of the 5 signature athletes of Adidas.
i liked it. free-flowing, natural dialogue, perhaps unscripted. we got into the world of a pro-baller during the off-season. REAL
I really don't think it's that hard to spot him, especially for a Rockets fan. At one point he's shooting all by himself, and then greets KG as he enters the gym. How could a Rockets fan not know that's McGrady? *yes I realize this whole conversation is trivial, but I'm having it anyway
Farmar is Farmar. Regardless of which market (LA is the second largest NBA market, by the way). If you want to use the market size argument, Tmac is in a bigger market than Billups, Duncan, Howard... I will consider the fact that he was probably injured on filiming... but he's all but absent from the ad, otherwise. To me, it's the contrast of where he was and where he is. He used to be the face of Adidas just 2 years ago, for many years. Now he's an extra.
i think a lot has to do with adidas' marketing strategy. 2 years ago tmac was still getting his own signature shoes. last two years adidas with their "5" campaign has been making the same shoes for all their marquee stairs with a few exceptions to each sneaker. I am sure if he still got a unique shoe they would be marketing him just like they did with his last two commercials of the kids talking about a buzzer beater and the mini army trying to stop him (both really cool commercials imo) also if the filming date is correct, july 8th then yeah he was still well in his rehab for surgery so seeing him not run and basically do stand still stuff isnt that surprising
the law in CA had gone into effect seven days prior, nice catch! for real though, it was a fun commercial and I see no reason to complain. T-Mac was the first one in the gym.
Wait, what?!?!? That was TMac? I guess I need to go back and watch it for a 4th time because I didn't even see him in the video at all. Spoiler
I think that's a cool commercial. It reminds me of playing pickup games with friends. It had all the elements: trash talk, joking around, and disputes about whether a guy was out of bounds. We don't have alley oop dunks, though...
I understand what you're saying, but who else is repped by Adidas on the Lakers? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, and right now, Farmar has cult status in LA. People love him over there. And as far as market sizes, New York might have the biggest, but the Lakers are far more popular across the United States and the world. And, the fact of the matter is, the Rockets aren't a very popular team nationally right now because of our injury woes, and the fact that we haven't achieved any real success in over a decade. The consensus is that we really can't be counted to make any noise (obviously, fans of other teams are naturally going to focus on our flaws as a team) in the West compared to the Lakers, Spurs, Hornets, and Jazz. As far as what you're saying about the contrast from years past, I am convinced that it is a combination of the fact that T-Mac was obviously rehabbing when this commercial was shot, as well as the fact that the Rockets haven't done anything in a very long time. If the Rockets end up making it deep into the playoffs this year, I will bet you anything Adidas goes back to its orginal formula with T-mac.
As stated before, T-Mac was either coming off of surgery or shot this before surgery, you can see it completely in the way he's always the last one up the court and is walking like he's 85 years old. Plus his shooting motion has no jump in it what-so-ever, that three he took was completely standing still, and he barely bent his knees taking those free throws. If Farmar was doing 360 dunks, I am sure if T-Mac was even close to fit they'd be making him show some skills in this video. Garnett has always been the vocal one of the Adidas stars, so that's no surprise. Of the main 5, Garnett and Billups in a small part were the only ones featured (and Billups was in the whole phone conversation). Duncan didn't do any more than McGrady did, and Arenas wasn't even there. McGrady is still the poster boy of Adidas basketball, especially with his popularity in Asia, I think this was just a case of him not being fit to run around doing 360 dunks.
Why wasn't t-mac penetrating into the defense all he does is stand around on the perimeter even Jordan Farmar got to the basket more than him.
I have no idea why they have left aside Gibert Arenas who is the most creative and humourous roster in the league. It's a bad commercial because Arenas is absent, just because arenas is absent. It doesn't matter they take in more and more new guys like famar and martin, but who are they to keep their no1 character off the view?
