yeah but the ipod $299 ($279 w/ student discount), youll get 30 gigs of space. youll have the psp with no memory at $250. to get 30 gigs onto a psp that would take so much money in terms of duo sticks. everyone who is ragging on the ipod, especially the guy that called us " FAGGOTS" has obviously not used it externsively. what do you want to do with your mp3's that you cant do with itunes? i can adjust my tags just fine, my music is in perfect order in terms of albums, genres, i can add and subtract music with ease. can you honestly tell me theres a better feature on another mp3 player better than the CLICK WHEEL? sure you can get another personal video player from creative, but those start at around $450, and its massive. the ipod is all about simplicity in a complicated life. its something you take with you and use everyyy day.
So true, I own two i-rivers and like them better than the i-pod. But all the accessories I see for the i-pod make me think about getting one next time I buy an mp3 player.
FWIW, the new HDD+battery combo for the PSP may help in that regards. Granted, it is only 4GB and was priced at $250 (although I read that this price is inaccurate, and the real price is "...not that much."), but it is great compared to a 1-2GB memory stick. Plus, with some nice networking skills and some help from Sony, you might be able to stream everything from a home network (may even be able to do that now, not really into the whole wi-fi network stuff). Eventually, prices should fall dramatically for these new memory sticks compared to HDD prices (1GB sticks have already dropped quite a bit in ~6 months), especially with the PS3. Still, I would love it if Sony opened up the UMD format to us. Someday maybe...someday. BTW, I'm not really trying to get into a PSP vs iPod vs whatever debate. I personally like the PSP since I don't really need a large storage capacity for music/movies/pictures, and I like the better screen, games, wi-fi abilities, etc. However, change my preferences a little bit and an iPod would probably be much more appealing to me.
Well I'm not really worried about how 'cool' I look, and I'm not worried about the 30g that I wont use anyways. I already spent the $250+ 1g card, and its about all I need for what I plan on doing with the PSP and just wanted to know if I coud transfer the video's. I imagine a 2'' screen would blow anyways for watching movies. Keep your IPOD, I'll take Madden while I'm flying anyday.
I guess there is the cool factor - but I don't see paying $300 for something that only plays mp3s and movies. Like wesnesked said, I'll take a bigger screen and more functionality over 30 gigs of hard drive space. I have a 2.5 inch screen on my camera, and it really doesn't do much for me in the way of watching the movies I filmed or looking at the pictures - it's just too small!
The small size is one of it's biggest selling points, see the iPod Nano's flying off the shelves after they launched. As a guy I HATE having anything large in my pockets, and an iPod is comfortable when I slide it in my front or back pocket. I don't use a wallet (money clip, credit card holder), I hate having keys, change and cell phones in my pockets, so the size is VERY important to me... and it is to most iPod buyers.
anyone know about what kind of video files will play on the iPod videos? i heard that only mpeg-4's which means my family guy videos in AVI will not play? thanks
Two things I don't understand about ipod: 1. Ipod is essentially a harddrive. Wouldn't a simple update of software (firmware) enable it to play vedio? In theory, the old ipods should be able to play video with a (online) firmware update? Why lunch a new generation of vedio ipods? 2. why isn't there an ipod that have radio tuners yet? That seems a very simple and logical upgrade todo.
1. hacking the code of an OS isn't exactly an easy task, even if it is an iPod OS. 2. There are FM tuner add-ons... for an FM tuner to work it needs an antenna that would take away from the look they go for.
1. I'm not talking about hacking, I'm talking about Apple releasing a firmware update. I guess they want their money. 2. If cell phones can do it without sacrificing the looks, I believe ipod can also, if they try.
1. Of course they'd rather you buy the videos from them, what company wouldn't. They don't however block you from uploading your own videos, if they did that then it would suck... 2. Why would you need an FM transmitter when you have 5000 uninterrupted songs in your pocket?
I'm guessing that the audio is decoded using a custom chip, not a general purpose processor that's upgradeable through software. As a result, I would think old iPods don't have the new video decoder. It's a guess, but I'm pretty sure this would be the justification, not simple greed. Why not use a general processor - I think it might be too slow for translation on the fly if you want to keep the thing small, cool, and power-starved.
any ideas how much the music videos, and television shows will cost to download? 99cents? would you be able to import your own video files into the ipod? say Rockets mpegs or something off a PVR. Just curious.
The TV Shows (Currently ABC, but they are in talks with NBC) are $1.99 the day after they air... as far as music videos go, I imagine some will be free... if not download them and just transfer them yourself.
I could put digital home videos on this thing with no problems? One of the really cool features is a S-VHS cable to play video from your iPod on a TV, anywhere you happen to be.
I have a black, 4GB nano I haven't busted open yet. I've been playing with the white 2GB I bought for my daughter. My first real experience using an Apple product, and I'm bowled over. I got my nano at Best Buy, and figure I could exchange it for the video iPod. I wouldn't want to wait for it, though. What I'm wondering is... is the video iPod that much better than the nano for someone whose considering both, and will probably not use video all that much? (or doesn't think he will) Photos, you can do with both. I love the size of the nano. Just trying to make up my mind.
