I noticed CD in the background. So was he there because he's familiar with Dream or was he involved in some coaching.

Great video and thanks for sharing! You can definetely see the difference in Yao and Hakeem: Olajavan spins to get around defence while Yao spins away from defence. Hope Yao can learn as much as possible from the Dream. :)

Two important improvements that I noticed Dream instructing Yao on:

    1. He told Yao to lean in on the shot instead of double-pumping. Yao would finish a lot better if he was constantly leaning in and trying to get to the rim, instead of spacing away from the defender. And if he's going towards the rim, he has a much better chance of getting fouled.

    2. He encouraged Yao to do more compact, one-dribble moves. This would prevent a lot of the turnovers where Yao gets the ball stripped. That would be a big improvement. Yao's not Charles Barkley, his dribble is too high, and his high center of gravity impairs his balance. Whenever Yao slowly backs someone down, he's vulnerable to getting the ball knocked away, so the one-dribble moves are a better alternative.

Great catches. I noticed the same things as well. Yao has a tendency to short-arm or take shots up weak around the basket. Hopefully the advice in 1) helps. I also noticed Hakeem did in 1 or 2 moves what it took Yao 3 moves to do. Hakeem was just faster to the shot while Yao till kind of had to think about it robotically.

Good stuff. Thanks Hilltopper and Grendal.

I wonder if there's a chance that this will be more than a one-off thing. Would love to have Dream keep working with Yao, even irregularly.

Great points! Yao tends to fade to much to create space. Leaning in like you said means he'll get to line more and have a shorter shot to hit which he should shoot at a higher%.

I like the quick decisive moves dream was showing him and Yao did a good job of duplicating the moves with good quickness. Nobody expects him to be as fast as Dream, but he displays good quickness for a man his size.

Also remember this height compensates for speed. Yao may be slower than Dream but he's also taller so he can still get his shot off. I hope Dream will continue to work with Yao because I can see him turning the corner and reaching his full potential which is to take the game over when it's on the line like all true allstars do.

Notice how Dreams moves create the space to get the shot off. He doesn't waste a lot of energy pushing off or backing down his man. If Yao can learn to use his foot work to create space it should help him stay fresher in games.

someone needs to now teach yao to defend, and instead of jumping at a pumpfake, to reach up and expect someone to drive in on him...

hakeem was inspiring though, i think yao learned alot.... big change in those 15 mins!

Did you listen to the clip? They asked the question and Yao answer. They will do more sessions.

Is it possible for Yao to leave his parents house and move in with Hakeem?
