To be fair, that location was a dollar theater. I handled the kitchen equipment and theater furniture for that location in my former life. At that time, they were looking to open as inexpensively as possible. There were other locations they were considering at the time but settled on that one because they got a good deal.

Here's the deal, Dave (and I mean this with absolutely no snark): the Drafthouse is for grownups, not kids. They make some concessions, allowing little kids in early shows etc., but in the end, they are there to serve an adult clientele. And since Toy Story has a heavy adult-child crossover appeal, they are more concerned with their showings appealing to the beer-drinking, nacho-munching adults than your little ones.

Your kids are probably very respectful and well-behaved in the theater. Good for you for being a good parent! But the average kid is a loud little s#!t-stain in a theater, and the average parent doesn't give a carp. If they're not going to do the right thing, than the Drafthouse has to, same as the texting thing. The Drafthouse is for watching movies: not checking the clock, not texting, not talking, not letting your kids run wild. They believe in the culture of good movies and good food. Anyone who isn't interested in that is free to go to the local Cinemark or AMC.

I think I'm the only person here who barely notices and doesn't mind if people are texting during a movie. It's a giant screen and there's huge loud speakers, someone texting does nothing to disrupt the experience for me. That being said it's obvious I'm in the minority, so I guess from now on I'll do all I can to avoid texting in movies... I'm sure I will catch flack for admitting I've texted during movies before, but I never thought it bothered people like it apparently does.

Obviously someone talking on the phone is unacceptable I just never thought texting was a big deal. I can't hear the button clicks over the movie and it doesn't create enough light to disrupt the movie for me. I guess others are more sensitive to these things, my bad.

It's cool of you to admit it. Can't speak for others, but even the little bit of light from the cell phone screen in my peripheral vision is a BIG distraction for me in the movies, even from people many rows away if they are seated in front of me at the movies (if people are texting in rows behind me I am probably unaware.) Course some models throw off enough light to be seen on mars, but even an old school model is a distraction.

lol, well had she of been in the theater before the movie started she would have seen the warning they show before every show that texting or talking will result in expulsion from the theater.

You might wanna pop in some old Woodstock, Altamont or Summer of Love footage after that rant. Young people are dumb, destructive and self-centered in every generation.
